Meta: Coaching Change Topics

Submitted by michgoblue on

There seems to be a split on this board between those who really want to discuss the coaching change issue and those who do not.

Given the number of posts per minute on the topic (and the number of replies to those posts), there are a substantial number of people on this board that really do want to discuss this topic, speculate, over-analyze, fire up the flight tracker, and generally vent about the process.  The large number of people partaking in the discussion indicates that there is interest amongst a faction of the MGoCommunity.

There is another faction that finds all of this hollow chatter to be highly annoying.  This is obvious from the number of replies to threads on the topic containing "not another . . .", bombs exploding, witty cartoons, and even MGoProfit's Infraction Policy.

I, for one, think that the best way for the two factions to exist is for those who want to discuss the topic to be allowed to do so, but to be forced to clearly label their threads as "CC" (for coaching change).  The designation could be used in a similar manner to OT or META, clearly setting out that it is a coaching change topic.

To be more specific - and do avoid burying REAL news, this designation should NOT be used for posts that contain ACTUAL information - i.e. a reputable news source claiming to have actual breaking information.

Using this designation would allow those who want to discuss the issue to death the opportunity to do so, but would at the same time warn those who find this discussion annoying or offenseive that the topic is not something that they should waste their time reading.

Just a proposal, because to some extent, point both factions are getting annoying to each other.

What does the MGoCommunity think about this?

Not really a detente, because I don't see either side opening to negotiations.  More akin to the North Korea / South Korea split, with the CC designation being the demilitarized zone separating the two factions.

Then there would need to be appropriate punishment.  Personally, I would love to see ProfitGoBlue come up with something more precise than what I am about to propose, but unless and until he does:

Failure to use the appropriate designation would result in a one way ticket to Bolivia - as in the MGoCommunity, a self-policing organization, would and should neg the offender into Bolivia.

board. You must spread the word. If a thread not containing "CC" that has to do with regime changes is posted and/or belligerent parties attack our islands, I shall defend said annoyed with my plentiful stockpile of nuclear warheads.

I'm not sure if I'm prepared to pass the Michgoblue Amendment to the Act . . . I like the idea of outlawing all discussion of opinions on coaching change without exception.  But that is probably not realistic or appropriate so I think I'm open to an amendment allowing for an alternative scenario whereby an offender can avoid punishment if he/she complies with the express terms of the Michgoblue Amendment.  However, I think more than a simple "CC" in the thread title is needed.  Thoughts?

however I do believe an informative thread title will be needed beside the "CC". Also a concern is that the CC post will be a flame post to insult RR/JH/DB. This should void said contract. Most likely the post will be deleted by the moderators. If not, the thread still voids the contract and OP should be nuked into Bolivia.

But what is there to discuss about the coaching change (or lack of one) that can't be discussed in any of the other hundred threads on the topic and needs a new thread?  This is why the atomic bomb/sad Picard/legalese legislation schtick stuff gets posted every time yet another coaching change thread is started.

I think it is making MGoBlog look bad in general.  Too many dumb threads, which lead to page upon page of (perhaps deservedly) sarcastic one-liner or photo-only replies.  It was funny, for about 48 hours.

It's not my blog.  But I agree with Bando.

As I understand it, "Chaos Mitigation" was formally enacted for particular game-days.  We now seem to have a kind of long-running non-game day need for something similar.

That makes great sense except for the fact that there are many of us (just me?) that find it impossible to refrain from reading every single thread on the Board.  I guess your proposed "warning" notation would put me on notice that I'm going to get annoyed but it might actually be worse - I'll be annoyed that I'm going to be annoyed but cannot help myself from reading anyway.

This is an excellent suggestion.  I for one enjoy the speculation at times - it's something to talk about - but at other times want to skip past all that stuff.  This would make it easy.

The most important decision facing the MIchigan athletic department and it cannot be discussed? WTF! What is the point of a blog if relevant topics are to be censored or restricted as to have a chilling effect for posting?

Dude.  Take a breath.  Now go back and re-read my post.  I will wait a second until you do./

/waits while quietly humming Hail to the Victors at his desk and contemplates whether to try to make it to the gym at lunch

Ok, did you read it?  Do you now see that the point that I was making is that people SHOULD be entitled to talk about this issue as much as they want, but that if they do, the simple CC designation would alert those who don't want to partake in the discussion that this thread may not be for them.  That's all.  No censorship, actually the opposite.

Feel better?

How about now?

lucky we are at the negotiating table Kim Sung Dong or I would nuke your ass into Bolivian. What new information can you bring to the topic that everyone doesn't know? RR might get fired. JH might get hired. DB doesn't give a shit what is said because he said eleventy billion times that nothing is going to be done until season is over. Please enlighten me on what else there is to talk about this issue without igniting a shit storm of hatred and division. If you want to talk about it, CC that shit.

Please be advised that you have violated the Prohibition on Coaching Change Opinions Act of 2010 (hereafter, the "Act"), profligated by Profitgoblue on November 30, 2010.  In particular, you have violated Article 2(e) of the Act which states, in part:  "Catch-all provision - additional infractions can be identified at a later date by Profitgoblue in his sole discretion."  In particular, you have failed to understand the necessity to end the constant rehashing of the same topic, over and over and over and over and over and over, and the fact that personal opinions on the topic are extremely annoying and essentially useless.

Please be further advised that, pursuant to Article 3 of the Act, the minimum fine for this violation is the loss of one (1) MGoPoint, with the maximum to be determined by the MGoCommunity.

Please be further advised that, pursuant to Article 5 of the Act, if you dispute the application of the Act to your thread/post, you have twenty-four (24) hours to "file" a formal written appeal by replying to this post.  All appeals will be considered on their merits as soon as practical, unless deemed to be frivolous by Profitgoblue in his sole discretion.

It seems rather obvious to me.

We convert Jibreel Black to secondary.  To please those looking for a more aggressive D, we "blitz" him on every down.  And to disguise the blitz, Jibreel should line up with his hand on the ground, just like the other defensive lineman.

Opposing offenses will never recognize it!
