If you were HC, what would your game plan involve?

Submitted by steve sharik on

Offense:

  • Despite how we usually like to play quickly, I would slow the pace way down.  I would take the play clock down to 5 seconds or less remaining.  Defense is bad?  Keep them on the sideline as much as possible.
  • Throw the ball downfield early, esp. w/PAP off QB runs w/lead blocker(s).
  • If we have a lead, run the ball a lot.

Defense:

  • Outnumber the offense in the run game; dare them to throw it.
  • Against the pass, take away the quick throws and the deep ball.  Make Pryor make intermediate throws like deep outs, comebacks, etc.
  • Play a 4-man line.  Let's let our DL take on as few doubles as possible.
  • Pressure. Pressure. Pressure.  Bring the heat as much as necessary.  If it's 90% of the snaps, so be it.  Secondary is vulnerable, so help them out by getting pressure any way you can.  I prefer guys getting beat 1-on-1 for big plays as opposed to receivers running around in our "zone" with no defenders within 5 yards and getting at least 7 yards after catch.  (Would love to see YAC stats from the Wisconsin game.)

I think it might be great to have a safety to "spy" on Pryor.  Before the game, he would be required to memorize Pryor's ten most stupid quotes and repeat them to him as often as possible.  If the spy found Pryor's public stupidity so prolific as to render it impossible to limit himself to only ten quotes, he could memorize as many as he can hold without making his head asplode.

Pryor would be jelly by the second quarter.

The nets are buzzing with rumors of RR’s imminent firing.

  • Since Penn State many/most of the media have believed that RR is toast.
  • “Officially” DB has denied it through his twitter account (and yes the account is *really* his.
  • Other AD sources after the this week’s eruption have repeated DB’s previous stance that he would evaluate the program after the season (the bowl game.)

With that said there is some pretty interesting circumstantial evidence that DB is *strongly* considering a change sooner rather than later.

In talking to a lot of people with ties to the program (both who support RR and don’t) it seems that there is not one single reason that DB might make a dramatic move to prevent further damage to Michigan’s brand but rather a number of things that have tipped the scales against him.

These people claim that DB shares these criticisms-

  • Lack of progress on the field and worse no solid plan on how to correct the problems
  • Poor PR skills- not representing Michigan well
  • Misgivings about RR’s role in the NCAA violations
  • Pressure from donors who have had enough
  • Negative feedback from Wolverine football alumni

Lynn Henning and the rest of the MSM will not influence Dave Brandon's decision regarding the future of Rich Rodriguez, and trust me on this one, that's a good thing.

Also, any reference to "Dick Rod" gets an auto neg from me.

In closing:  Please don't go away mad... just go away.

wow, after those points you brought up, I think you changed my opinion and the rest of mgoblog's opinion too!

Not.

On a serious note, what are you trying to accomplish by posting this? Its okay to respectively display your unhappiness with the current coaching situation, but to be a straight up dick about it and use the term dick rod is just stupid.

The sacrifice of a virgin (obviously to be acquired before entering the city of Columbus limits) on an altar?

Lacing the OSU Gatorade coolers & players' water bottles with LSD?

Steroids?

Calling in the entire team sick?

Putting in some random 4th stringers on the first defensive series and telling them all to hit Pryor high and low at the same time as hard as possible well after the first OSU offensive play is over?

Paying several key members from Wisconsin's defense to dress in Michigan uniforms?

Would be of the variety of Bill Murray's "it Just Doesn't Matter" speech which was made famous in Ivan Reitman's film Meatballs. I mean c'mon, who wouldve really thought that Spaz would win by stacking coffee cups and saucers in record time. Proper motivation went a long way for Camp North Star.
