Brandon: No Monday Announcement.

Submitted by BlockM on

Heard about a "rumor" re: some "big announcement" on Monday regarding M-Football. Add it to the rumor rubbish pile! Happy Thanksgiving!

Can we please just stop and agree that if a change is made, it won't be until after the bowl game?

I'll give Brandon his due.  He needed to quash this ASAP, and he did.  No matter what his thoughts are toward RR, he owes it to him to not have this hanging over RR's head before this game.

It doesn't matter—Brandon could reanimate Bo's rotting corpse to explain to people that the review won't happen until after the bowl game, and there will be a good percentage who will still say "Eh, Brandon's just being a crafty CEO who's keeping things close to his vest, he doesn't really mean that, I heard that RR has already started cleaning out his desk, and a real estate agent I know at the gym says she's already listing some of the assistants homes for sale."

No.  I can't agree to this.  Nothing in there said that.  All he said is not Monday.  I don't care if he stays or goes, but I think it would be terribly detrimental to drag this out past the next couple of weeks and into January.  I simply believe that is a mistake.  I would love nothing more than some day next week for Brandon to sit day and say "Well I made up my mind it's RR's job.  Deal with it."  And let's move on.  But draggin out the uncertainty into January, I firmly believe is a mistake.

by "I create my own uncertainty."  Are you suggesting that the thought of RR not being back next year is a figment of my imagination?

And all I said was that the coaching situation whether he stays or goes needs to be addressed before January.

You did offend my sensibilities, because what you suggest is indesensible. Your inablility to take Brandon at his word is mind boggling, especially since Brandon has delivered the same message over and over again. Why in the fuck would you think that Brandon is going to do an about face, and make an announcement on Tuesday? Why?

Maybe Tuesday? Wednesday? This is how these things roll.

It all depends on Harbaugh. He is the game changer. Frankly no one really knows if he even is available for the job except for him and maybe Brandon.

If he is available, if that matters to Michigan, and if they have talked, anything is possible.  All "ifs" that no one  has first hand knowledge of.

Keep in mind, there isn't been a high profile coaching switch in recent college football history where someone involved in the process wasn't guilty of some level of trickery in the lead up to the actual announcement.

A better defensive staff is the only thing that's going to improve this disaster relatively quickly.  Personally, Harbaugh isn't even the best choice.  Outside of his connection to the program, I'd prefer Dan Mullen as a spread coach that wouldn't try to stuff Denard into the pro-style passing mold.  Also, Miss St has a mean defense this season (just sayin').

First off, RR is staying, and there will most likely be a new defensive coaching staff.  Secondly, if Harbaugh were to come, Denard wouldn't be stuffed into pro-style passing mode, he'd be moved to RB/WR/DB, and Devin would move to starting QB IME.  So thank god RR will be here.

Yeah I agree. GERG and / or the defensive scheme needs to go.

I guess I never thought of Mullen. Not a bad choice right there. But yeah, putting Denard into a pro-style defense doesn't allow him to do what he does as much and that's run. Plus, he sure as hell does not seem like a pro-style QB. But then again, I'm sure he would adjust and do pretty decent. You never know.

exactly.. Bringing in Harbaugh a less accomplished coach than RR was coming into michigan and somehow he is gonna turn us into Big Ten contenders?  Why?  Cause he's a so called michigan man?  Bullshit..  the whole michigan man thing about how our coach has to have michigan ties to win somehow in the big ten?  Give me  a break..

Harbaugh's big bad Defense still got completely shit on by a spread offense..

I don't know why everyone thinks he is gonna magically turn our 18 year old freshman on D into a solid big ten defense..

The only thing he would inherit is that they are a year older and finally have a year of expierience under their belt.

If anything changes i would have to say Gerg is probably gone, and possibly the whole D staff.  Everyone says RR won't part with his friends, but if it means his job he will send his friends packing.

Harbaugh improved Stanford by three games in his first year on the job, and pulled off a massive upset of USC (the largest upset in history, according to the betting spread).  That's pretty impressive, given that many coaches struggle in their first season and have their program backslide in year one.

If a head coaching change is made, it will be immediately to try and salvage the recruiting class.  Michigan would have to get slaughtered while Rodriguez was snorting coke off GERG's ass to get fired after the bowl game.

Staff changes would come after the bowl game, IMO.

No matter how you feel about the coaching situation, it is great to see Brandon openly addressing the rumor.  I am surprised that now people think it is Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever.  I would take Brandon for his word, he is going to evaluate after the post season.

I'm glad it isn't my decision to make. In addition to this, I'm glad David Brandon is in charge of the Athletic Department. These two simple facts will make Turkey taste better tomorrow.

Of course it's up to Harbaugh.  If he hears DB's making a change and communicates that if he takes the job, he wants to do it right away to save recruiting (or for whatever other reason he might have), that impacts DBs timetable.

DB's not going to delay just so he isn't "dishonest" in some tweet.  And he's not going to wait a month if he concludes that moving right away is better for the program.  Get real.

...Brandon only said that there wouldn't be an announcement on Monday.  If Michigan was going to let RR go it *has* to be before the bowl game as that's the only way to do it that wouldn't muck up recruiting.
