Brandon: No Monday Announcement.
From his twitter:
Heard about a "rumor" re: some "big announcement" on Monday regarding M-Football. Add it to the rumor rubbish pile! Happy Thanksgiving!
Can we please just stop and agree that if a change is made, it won't be until after the bowl game?
November 24th, 2010 at 5:02 PM ^
And I like just about everyone.
November 24th, 2010 at 5:01 PM ^
Based on your asshat logic, if the right conditions occur then I am sure the entire top ten of Rivals will sign with Michigan this year. Those conditions may not occur. Therefore, this post may be "rubbish".
November 24th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
I'll give Brandon his due. He needed to quash this ASAP, and he did. No matter what his thoughts are toward RR, he owes it to him to not have this hanging over RR's head before this game.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
I have it on good sorcery that the announcement been moved to Tuesday. Brandon is slick!!!
November 24th, 2010 at 5:00 PM ^
Well played, Brandon. Well played.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
It doesn't matter—Brandon could reanimate Bo's rotting corpse to explain to people that the review won't happen until after the bowl game, and there will be a good percentage who will still say "Eh, Brandon's just being a crafty CEO who's keeping things close to his vest, he doesn't really mean that, I heard that RR has already started cleaning out his desk, and a real estate agent I know at the gym says she's already listing some of the assistants homes for sale."
November 24th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
I hope your real estate agent is right and those assistants are from defense, but that is a totally different topic.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
Hopefully, it quiets the pot-stirrers a little bit.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt it. It would be nice, but the chances are slim to none.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
Can we please just stop and agree that if a change is made, it won't be until after the bowl game?
No. I can't agree to this. Nothing in there said that. All he said is not Monday. I don't care if he stays or goes, but I think it would be terribly detrimental to drag this out past the next couple of weeks and into January. I simply believe that is a mistake. I would love nothing more than some day next week for Brandon to sit day and say "Well I made up my mind it's RR's job. Deal with it." And let's move on. But draggin out the uncertainty into January, I firmly believe is a mistake.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:22 PM ^
I agree.
Which is why he won't he won't do that. Said it before, and I'll say it again: How the team does at a third empty neutral field in late December against some unranked opponent, isn't going to decide this.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:30 PM ^
If we get some of these players back from injury and the defense plays well, I think it definitely could have an impact.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:23 PM ^
You create your own uncertainty, reading whatever you want into every statement. WTF is wrong with you? You have no control over the situation anyway, just sit back and enjoy the Holiday.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
by "I create my own uncertainty." Are you suggesting that the thought of RR not being back next year is a figment of my imagination?
And all I said was that the coaching situation whether he stays or goes needs to be addressed before January.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:33 PM ^
Accountability. Brandon has it. Brandon has said repeatedly what he is going to do and when, open your fucking ears and get a clue. Brandon is not coming out with anything Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Is that clear enough for you!!!
November 24th, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
probably calm down and relax a bit. I didn't realize I was allowed to disagree with a decision made by Brandon or engage in a discussion about it. Sorry to offend your sensibilities.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:46 PM ^
You did offend my sensibilities, because what you suggest is indesensible. Your inablility to take Brandon at his word is mind boggling, especially since Brandon has delivered the same message over and over again. Why in the fuck would you think that Brandon is going to do an about face, and make an announcement on Tuesday? Why?
November 25th, 2010 at 1:17 AM ^
Don't know why you're bein negged here.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
Maybe Tuesday? Wednesday? This is how these things roll.
It all depends on Harbaugh. He is the game changer. Frankly no one really knows if he even is available for the job except for him and maybe Brandon.
If he is available, if that matters to Michigan, and if they have talked, anything is possible. All "ifs" that no one has first hand knowledge of.
Keep in mind, there isn't been a high profile coaching switch in recent college football history where someone involved in the process wasn't guilty of some level of trickery in the lead up to the actual announcement.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:24 PM ^
I don't understand how you say it depends on Harbaugh. It's not his decision. It depends on DB and what he thinks is the right thing for the program, not whether or not Harbaugh is available and up to the challenge.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:26 PM ^
Harbaugh is no panacea either. He's going to run into some significant problems too.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
Exactly. I love how everyone that wants RR to be fired and Harbaugh to come in think that he is going to make UM a top program again overnight. He will be stuck with the same defense and we will be no farther along than what we are now, if not a little behind.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:33 PM ^
A better defensive staff is the only thing that's going to improve this disaster relatively quickly. Personally, Harbaugh isn't even the best choice. Outside of his connection to the program, I'd prefer Dan Mullen as a spread coach that wouldn't try to stuff Denard into the pro-style passing mold. Also, Miss St has a mean defense this season (just sayin').
November 24th, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
First off, RR is staying, and there will most likely be a new defensive coaching staff. Secondly, if Harbaugh were to come, Denard wouldn't be stuffed into pro-style passing mode, he'd be moved to RB/WR/DB, and Devin would move to starting QB IME. So thank god RR will be here.
November 24th, 2010 at 5:09 PM ^
You're getting way ahead of yourself, buddy.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:39 PM ^
Yeah I agree. GERG and / or the defensive scheme needs to go.
I guess I never thought of Mullen. Not a bad choice right there. But yeah, putting Denard into a pro-style defense doesn't allow him to do what he does as much and that's run. Plus, he sure as hell does not seem like a pro-style QB. But then again, I'm sure he would adjust and do pretty decent. You never know.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
Yeah, true, you never do know. Thank god we won't need to find out.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
exactly.. Bringing in Harbaugh a less accomplished coach than RR was coming into michigan and somehow he is gonna turn us into Big Ten contenders? Why? Cause he's a so called michigan man? Bullshit.. the whole michigan man thing about how our coach has to have michigan ties to win somehow in the big ten? Give me a break..
Harbaugh's big bad Defense still got completely shit on by a spread offense..
I don't know why everyone thinks he is gonna magically turn our 18 year old freshman on D into a solid big ten defense..
The only thing he would inherit is that they are a year older and finally have a year of expierience under their belt.
If anything changes i would have to say Gerg is probably gone, and possibly the whole D staff. Everyone says RR won't part with his friends, but if it means his job he will send his friends packing.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:32 PM ^
How is Harbaugh a game changer? You realize it took him 3 full seasons to get where he is right now, right?
November 24th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Harbaugh improved Stanford by three games in his first year on the job, and pulled off a massive upset of USC (the largest upset in history, according to the betting spread). That's pretty impressive, given that many coaches struggle in their first season and have their program backslide in year one.
November 24th, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
He took a team that was 1-11 the year before to 4-8. Sure, an improvement, but they gave up 55 points to Oregon. In fact, in 3 of 4 seasons, Stanford under Harbaugh has given up more than 50 points to Oregon (2010: 52; 2009: 51; 2007: 55) and has never beaten Oregon.
November 24th, 2010 at 5:54 PM ^
It's not surprising that a team that went 1-11 the prior season would experience a meltdown game or two. I don't think that's a particularly valid metric for evaluating the guy.
November 25th, 2010 at 3:11 AM ^
But I liked you better when your avatar was your face and not a hot chick on the beach. Sorry, but it had to be said. It was just eating me up inside. I'm sure it's not the avatar's fault, but that's how my mind makes sense of it all.
November 25th, 2010 at 3:33 AM ^
You'd rather see NateVolk's giant, up close mugshot as an avatar over a hot chick on the beach?
Magnus, along with myself, take issue with this.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:23 PM ^
If a head coaching change is made, it will be immediately to try and salvage the recruiting class. Michigan would have to get slaughtered while Rodriguez was snorting coke off GERG's ass to get fired after the bowl game.
Staff changes would come after the bowl game, IMO.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
Or off of GERG's beaver. Oh, dear, I've said too much.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
There's a filthy joke in there somewhere...
November 24th, 2010 at 4:27 PM ^
No matter how you feel about the coaching situation, it is great to see Brandon openly addressing the rumor. I am surprised that now people think it is Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever. I would take Brandon for his word, he is going to evaluate after the post season.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
I am looking at his twitter page right now...and there is no such post.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:31 PM ^
and only lets you see posts 8 hours old and later (somewhere around that time frame) unless you have a Twitter account
November 24th, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
You're blind. Or something. I'm looking at it right now, and I also had it retweeted to me about ten times.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:39 PM ^
I could be blind, or experiencing exhaustion induced system failure...either way, thanks.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:35 PM ^
After Michigan beats O-State on Saturday, this will all go away.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
You're saying that RR shouldn't be fired if we win on Saturday? Ludicrous!
November 24th, 2010 at 4:38 PM ^
I'm glad it isn't my decision to make. In addition to this, I'm glad David Brandon is in charge of the Athletic Department. These two simple facts will make Turkey taste better tomorrow.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
Of course it's up to Harbaugh. If he hears DB's making a change and communicates that if he takes the job, he wants to do it right away to save recruiting (or for whatever other reason he might have), that impacts DBs timetable.
DB's not going to delay just so he isn't "dishonest" in some tweet. And he's not going to wait a month if he concludes that moving right away is better for the program. Get real.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
...Brandon only said that there wouldn't be an announcement on Monday. If Michigan was going to let RR go it *has* to be before the bowl game as that's the only way to do it that wouldn't muck up recruiting.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:50 PM ^
Firing RR would muck up everything!
November 24th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
RR is not getting fired on Monday. Whatever it is, it's something else.
