Brandon: No Monday Announcement.

Submitted by BlockM on

From his twitter:

Heard about a "rumor" re: some "big announcement" on Monday regarding M-Football. Add it to the rumor rubbish pile! Happy Thanksgiving!

Can we please just stop and agree that if a change is made, it won't be until after the bowl game?

I just heard Mike Valenti comment about this.  He read the Brandon Tweet on the air, and announced that it had been put out to quell "rumors in Ann Arbor."  As though rumors just spring up in Ann Arbor.  No mention of Lynn Henning's having made an ass of himself, and then making an even bigger ass of himself thanks to Jason Smilovitz's fine reporting for the Daily, insisting that he still thought it would happen, in his "opinion," not "based on any information."

Then, with no other insult to fall back on, Valenti asks, "Who uses a word like 'rubbish'?  The Duke of Yorkshire?"

This is such a craptastic example of Mike Valenti's stunted shitheadedness.  There is no "Duke of Yorkshire," Mike.  It's the "Duke of York."  But rest easy, knowing that your collection of mouth-breather listeners will never, ever know the difference.

  • First, Lynn Henning capitalizes on David Brandon's offer to do a personal interview during OSU week.
  • Next, Henning's Detroit News column relating to the interview gets him an interview on E. Lansing radio (where Henning went to school and where he worked before Detroit).
  • During the radio interview, Henning inexplicably pops off, with a prediction that Rich Rodriguez would be fired.  And not just at some time in the future -- but next Monday.
  • Henning's recklessness causes a firestorm; people naturally think that an old reporter and columnist, having just been given interview access to a key source, must know something, right?
  • So Michigan Daily reporter Jason Smilovitz interviews Henning; asking him how does he know what is going to happen on Monday?
  • Henning responds, incredibly, that he really doesn't know, that it's just his opinion, and that it "wasn't based on any information."  (What a statement from a newspaper reporter!)
  • But the hungry anti-Rodriguez press is still simmering the story, with Kirk Herbstriet, who has basically never gotten anything right with respect to coaching rumors at Michigan, pops off with a confession that he has no idea what might happen to Rodriguez, but if he were to be removed, well then Jim Harbaugh would probably jump at the opportunity.  Herbie has not interviewed Brandon, or Rodriguez, or Harbaugh, on the subject.
  • David Brandon kills the simmering rumor decisively with a Tweet:  The Monday rumor is "rubbish," Brandon writes.
  • But that is not enough for our friends at the Detroit Free Press, in their never-ever-freaking-ending campaign to try to drive Rich Rodriguez out of Ann Arbor.  Tonight they publish a Mark Snyder story, headlined "Two National Experts Think Rodriguez Might be Out."  And all that it was intended to do was to rehash what Herbstriet and another football wirter did not know about.  They knew less than Lynn Henning, who had just interviewed Brandon.
  • So, instead of the headline being, "Brandon Ends Rumor Started Lynn Henning," the story becomes, once again, an anti-Rodriguez story.  Not merely without any good basis in fact; but actively concealing the malfeaseance of another sportswriter.

So that's how it works at the Detroit Free Press.

In the past, I have suggested that Mark Snyder is just a pathetic pawn and a stooge of Michael Rosenberg.  My opinion has changed.  Mark Snyder is a malicious thug, actively trying to cause harm to the Michigan football program.

...and you're right; the Free Press is a kind of veracity-pornography.

btw, I wanted to add this to the preceding post but your reply prevented it.  In this case, the Freep is not a complete bystander.  I think that it is quite reasonable to presume, based on the clear timing, that our Athletic Director's Tweet was occasioned by the Free Press story hitting Freep.com.  In minutes, Brandon was shooting down the Freep story, which was edited to reflect what Brandon added.  This continues the series of pr punches thrown by Dave Brandon in the direction of the Free Press; leaking the NCAA-results story to the AP ahead of the Freep, giving the OSU-week interview to the News, etc.  Good job, Dave.

Why does anybody trust anything that comes out of Detroit?    Detroit is a failed city - it was once one of America's great cities, and spent nearly 50 years failing itself into oblivian (Bolivian-style, of course).

Detroit is home to the Lions, one of the most miserable franchises in professional sports history.   Hundreds of thousands of idiots follow these idiots every weekend.   They haven't been reliably good since Barry Sanders quit, 12 years ago.

The Pistons have had some high points, including a championship, and the Tigers at times have shown something to cheer about, but overall, it's a miserable place for sports, and its a miserable, failed city.

There is no reason to think that Detroit is going to attract anything but the most pathetic, miserable, and self-loathing idiots of sportswriters.  I am so sick of giving any attention to these motherfuckers.  If you're a decent, respectable sportswriter, and you're given the choice between Detroit and Spokane, Washington, you catch the bus out west.   Fuck these motherfuckers.

Herbstriet is still mad about getting knocked out in THE GAME, back in the day. I don't care what that douche bag has to say.

    1. How do you do that arrow thing? Awesome.

    2. LOL his name is LYNN? that's a girl's name.

    3. Contrary to #2, ad hominem attack is still a fallacy. Also, I've said the word rubbish before. Would they prefer we use the word "bull shit?" No, because that would cause a media shit-storm. I mean rubbish-storm. So the options of calling your reporting "bullshit" are pretty limited.

About 20 people and 10 topics should have been banned/taken down this week.  There has been next to no action.  Blows my mind.

But at least we can all talk about Jim Harbaugh TEN FUCKING SEPARATE TIMES AS IF THERE IS ANY NEWS WHATSOEVER the week of the OSU game.  Thanks to those who made it all possible!
