Finally . . . Fitzgerald Touissant
All year long I've been waiting to witness the greatness of one Fitzgerald Touissant, the mythical man-beast who is a bizarre combination of Doak Walker winner Chris Perry and speedy Steve Slaton. Due to injuries and other reasons unknowable, all we've seen is a tantalizing glimpse during the Bowling Green game, in which a brace-encumbered Touissant averaged a mere 33 yards per carry, and a touchdown every other possession.
As we all know, in order to defeat Ohio State we will need to score a touchdown on virtually every possession. Our explosive offense has been a bit too inconsistent and mistake-prone to achieve that level of perfection. But perhaps with the Sydd Finch of runninbacks at our disposal, Denard will no longer have to face any pesky third and longs. Rodriguez will never even have to consider the damned thought of trotting out our field goal unit. With Touissant and his 40 yards per carry (estimated), we will march down the field with merry abandon, cruising to the 60 point threshold that should be enough to carry the day. Onward, Touissant!
In all seriousness, I was hard on Vincent Smith early in the year, and then was surprised and thrilled by his performance in the past two games. It will be a shame if he's unable to go on Saturday, but I must say I am somewhat excited at the prospect of finally seeing what Touissant can do. The lack of game film of him and concomitant surprise factor would be a nice bonus. I'm hoping for Biakabutuka part deux.

I hope you won't retire once Jeremy graduates.

Geez, I hate to be the guy asking to have a joke explained, but I'm missing something here.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
he's calling you Fred Jackson. (Jeremy is his son, so don't retire when he's done)
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:46 AM ^
Ah, thank you. That's funny! Sorry I ruined the joke by having it explained.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:23 AM ^
But yea, I <3 Fitz too.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:26 AM ^
Aw, let's be friends now. It's OSU week, they're the real enemy.

I'm with ya, on having high hopes for Fitz as well seeing what he can do with carries. But I do feel that this weekend it will be a heavy dose of Mike Shaw and Hopkins.
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:02 PM ^
It will be interesting to see, Shaw has hardly playd since the non conference schedule. We will have to see if he actually plays a lot or not.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:25 AM ^
Concomitant? Your English prof. just good wood.

the avatar is just the first image that comes up when you google for "awesome pics" (or just "awesome"). but, yes, you apparently got dibs. replacement MGoWeinatar should be making its way through the system now.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:26 AM ^
my hopes for fitz are high too. but i doubt he gets more than 4 carries this week.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:30 AM ^
That sounds alright. Going off his stats earlier in the year, 4 carries should translate to something like 140 yards and 2 touchdowns. I can live with that.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:34 AM ^
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not go overboard.
On four carries, just 132 yards and two touchdowns is more in line with his stats so far.
November 24th, 2010 at 8:57 AM ^
If you can't block Rich Rod will take you out of the game (it's what happen to Fitz in the Purdue game) I hope he get some carries before he misses a block.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
you damn well better be good. It would be a shame to let an awesome name like that go to waste.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:37 AM ^
Vincent Smith has been money. He was also one of the only players to play well in the game against OSU last year. I hope he can bring it.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:39 AM ^
But Smith will likely not play on Saturday. I don't know if you were at the game, but near the end, he got rocked by a knee to the head, then tried to stand up, took a couple of woozy steps, then promptly tipped over again. Very possible concussion.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:37 AM ^
this probably isn't the game to unleash him considering his game experience. Shaw and Hopkins will probably carry the rock primarily, and maybe if we're lucky we'll see Shaw hit the home run he's fully capable of hitting.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:38 AM ^
The Fitzer is going to rush for 325 yards.
Two years from now we are going to be Wisconsins RB rushing attack but have 3 guys over 1,000 yards. Hehehehehe. Fitzer, Hayes, Hart. With Denard getting over 1,000 too :)~

...Sidd Finch reference. Greatest sports journalism hoax ever.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 AM ^
Something looks really freak with that guy's feet. Not sure what it is, but it doesn't look human.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
I'm really hoping to at least see him in the return game this weekend. RR mentioned him as a possibility. I'm feeling a Fitz return touchdown on the opening kickoff, just like Wisconsin did against OSU.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
I am looking forward to seeing what Fitz can do but I hope eventually Mike Cox will get a chance too.
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:58 AM ^
I'm looking forward to Mike Cox opportunities this weekend as well.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
Given that he hasn't been listed on a single injury report and has nonetheless barely played, I think the Mike Cox ship has sailed. At least for this season.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:15 PM ^
Unfortunately I have to agree. Such a great potential athlete with great reviews in the beginning of preseason and he has struggled to work his way to the top. Unless Shaw goes down, I don't think we'll be seeing any of him.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
what's odd is that just a couple of weeks ago RR said that Cox has had a knee or leg problem. One reason I don't pay much attention to the injury reports...
November 23rd, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
Mike Cox wasn't even dressed last game so I doubt he'll play or even make the trip to columbus.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
has not played extensive minutes in weeks. Coupled with the fact that I don't think he runs as hard as Smith, I am concerned. RB is now a very real concern for Saturday (I suppose it has been all year, but Smith has ran really well the last few weeks).
I will continue to beat a dead horse, Smith should not have been in on that last drive Saturday. Given our injury situation all over the offense, and lack of depth at rb, rest him and get him ready for OSU.
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:05 PM ^
but have you ever watched the two run? I am not a Smith hater, I love the guy but for a running back, he goes down very easy. I am not faulting the guy, he is like 5'6" and 170 but facts are facts, he goes down on first contact almost always.
Shaw has shown repeatedly that he can run through tackles and drag guys in all of his appearance this year. One that comes to mind is the Illinios game where he took two defenders the last fours yards for a TD.
I am sure there could be reasonable arguements to be made for using Smith in lieu of Shaw, but the "Shaw doesn't run as hard as Smith" is definitely not one of them. I'm just saying, if you have watched the two play, that statement is absurd.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:44 PM ^
I hope he is able to improve on his 30+ ypc career average in this game.
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
is going to be this years Biakabutuka (spelling??) for the rivalry game
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
I'm not entirely convinced that Toussaint is a real person. I get the impression that he's some kind of mythological folk hero to keep us thinking positively.
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
I liken him to Bill Brasky or Paul Bunyan. Man, myth and legend...all rolled into one awesome, jump-cutting sonovabitch. I heard he travels with an ox and jumps off the Empire State building just for fun.

kiser sosa!
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:44 PM ^
That was so sad! The whole stadium released this odd sound composed of 'awww' , 'oh!' And 'noooo!'. In a moment of dark humor, the guy next to me remarked, " Ohoh, we may have to put him down..."
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
Let's get the spelling of his name down: it's Toussaint. There is no "i" before the "u."

Did you lose a job, get divorced, or did your kitten accidentally fall into a blender and get turned into a smoothie?
You didn't used to be this big of a jackass. I always have been, but you used to let this stuff slide by or make the correction without sounding like a douchenozzle.

10 weeks to realize gallon was terrible at returning kicks. dileo should have been back there a long time ago.
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
That we only started behind the 20 yard line, like, once?
Yeah. Good times.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
how his name is spelled it can be 2sait, thats not important, this isnt English 101, its football and God knows we need a back besides VS to help DR in this game cause we need another back to take the pressure off of the run we need to smash them wit some thunder and hit them wit lighting speed on a consistant basis...without that....we get killed
