I didn't think I could find it absorbing, watching people lay plywood (or whatever that is) on the field, but it's a bigger potential time suck than I imagined.

Thats pretty cool. Also, I'm sure this was discussed previously, but for anybody that didn't know, there will be fireworks at this game. Hopefully they score a lot, because it looks like fireworks will follow michigan goals. How do they make up for the crest in the field. Do they make ice thicker on outside, or do they build up the sides to make the surface under the ice level?

I believe they are going to lay a level surface on the field before constructing the rink.

I think they lay the plywood to protect the field and distribute the weight, and then they layout a specially designed layer of foam pads/blocks that will level out the crest of the field. So in effect they are building up the sides.

Here is a picture from last years Wisconsin-Michigan outdoor game at Camp Randell. I believe they have field turf as well. Check out picture 3/16 for a great visual as to how much crown is on the field there. I am assuming that Michigan has pretty much the same set up.

I hope when it's all said and done they post some time lapse footage of them setting up the rink as well.
And it's gotta be miserable out there in this rain, but at least it's kinda warmish today.

As I spent more time than I care to admit watching this over the last day or so, seeing the forklifts going in and out, I wondered how the Zamboni machine is going to get in and out? With the addtl bleachers they put in the tunnel, it's a pretty tight fit down there now? Any ideas?
