Osu vs Michigan 2010 Odds of Victory for Michigan?
Everyone's more than a little pissed off about the Texas A&M game so I won't even start to go into that but I was talking to my father today at dinner and needless to say it was a quiet dinner when it came to college football but I changed the subject to Ohio State vs Michigan for the game this weekend and asked him his thoughts. He said because of how Michigan's defense has played this year he's got Osu winning by only 17 but still has Osu winning :(. I'm sorry guys I hope you can prove him and the Buckeye fathfull wrong. Good luck this Saturday! What are you giving Michigan this Saturday over and under wise for an upset?

Would be awesome - particularly if we win in Ohio.
Curiously - our record away from home has been pretty good, so I have some hopes.
It would help with recruiting, get the pressure off RR and give the team a HUGE confidence boost.
Also I think Ohio State has been playing mediocre football.
November 22nd, 2010 at 2:52 AM ^
and we haven't? don't get me wrong, anything can happen in The Game, but we've been playing pretty mediocre ourselves.

FWIW, I watched the 2nd half of Nebraska-A&M and that really sucks. My condolences.

father threw a glass at one of the windows in his house he got so mad. I was plenty pissed too. Every Husker is today.

Don't even think about it. Just put blinders on and wait for the bowl game matchup to be announced.

I was a senior in high school the last time we won, and I've honestly forgotten the feeling. Low expectations will keep me from melting down next week both here on the board and in real life. I'm going to put on my white #5 jersey for the last time this season, get incoherently drunk on my couch, and just let it happen. (That's what she said, I know)
November 22nd, 2010 at 12:53 AM ^
I still remember Michigan's glorious 10-2-1 run. For that matter, I still remember 1969. I also remember OSU fans leaving the Big House at the beginning of the fourth quarter because Michigan was beating them so badly.
The momentum in the series can turn with one bounce. It will probably happen next year, but it could happen this Saturday. And, once RR starts beating Tressel, it won't stop until Tressel "retires."
November 22nd, 2010 at 1:51 AM ^
I came of age as a Michigan fan during the Cooper years. We won almost every year. It seemed so . . . easy. And then in 2001 - my senior year - I went into the game incredibly confident. I've never been so certain we'd win. Sigh.
It's really hard for me to believe now that we've gone so long since winning. I know it's true (I've been to all the games in A2), but it feels like a bad dream and not real.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:08 AM ^
We were 17-point dogs in 1969 too

I'm in the same boat. The last 6 years have been pretty rough for me as a sports fan. Watching Michigan be defeated 6 years in a row, the Cleveland Cavaliers gets swept in the Finals and underachieve and lose LeBron, the Browns being the Browns, and the Indians blowing a 3-1 ALCS lead over the Red Sox....needless to say, this game could be the end of all of that if RR can pull a pretty little rabbit out of his ass. I also forget what bragging rights feel like and living in Ohio has made the last 6 off seasons less than enjoyable.

I read through some of your posts in the past couple of days, and have come to the conclusion that you are a huge ass hole. Go to hell. Or if not hell, at least go somewhere away from this board.
Wait until the bowls are announced? If you're too much of a defeatist dick to watch the OSU game, then don't fucking comment here until the bowl game.
November 22nd, 2010 at 12:54 AM ^
No, you go away. I would track down some of your earlier posts, but I just don't care about you that much. This is a free board to post your opinions, and I have enough points to post whatever I want and endure any ensuing negging. Deal with it.

I still think the OSU game should never be ignored or given up on, though.

this past Saturday you might just be able to pull it off! Ohio State has been one of the most overrated teams in college football this year! If you look at their schedule in reality who have they beat that has been any good this year or where is their big imapct win at?
Sat, Sept 4th vsMarshall W45-7 1-0 (0-0)
Sat, Sept 11 vs#12 Miami (FL) W36-24 2-0 (0-0) (Miami has been awful this year)
Sat, Sept 18 vsOhio W43-7 3-0 (0-0)
Sat, Sept 25 vsEastern Michigan W73-20 4-0 (0-0)
Sat, Oct 2 @Illinois W24-13 5-0 (1-0) (Should of blown this team out)
Sat, Oct 9 vsIndiana W38-10 6-0 (2-0) (Last in the Big Ten conference in conference wins)
Sat, Oct 16 @#18 Wisconsin L31-18 6-1 (2-1) (Lost to a better opponent)
Sat, Oct 23 vsPurdue W49-0 7-1 (3-1)
Sat, Oct 30 @Minnesota W52-10 8-1 (4-1)
Sat, Nov 13 vsPenn State W38-14 9-1 (5-1) (Unranked Penn State and a team who struggled against Temple)
Sat, Nov 20 @#20 Iowa W20-17 (Beat an Iowa team who barely escaped Indiana and lost to Northwestern)
I agree with the guy that posted this on ESPN.com Where is Ohio State's biggest win?!
November 22nd, 2010 at 1:40 AM ^
Nebraska would be about 4-4 in the Big Ten this year.
Nebraska lost to Texas AT HOME in what was supposed to be a rivalry year.
Get ready for Michigan to OWN Nebraska year-in, year out. And dog Nebraska's coach -- a former Ohio State DB.
Starting NEXT YEAR.
As for Michigan's #1 rival (which will stay the same even when Nebraska moves into Michigan's divisdion), OSU is tied for first in the Big Ten and has the best defense in the conference. They'd kill Nebraska, as would Wisconsin.
November 22nd, 2010 at 1:47 AM ^
Mighty brash words on behalf of a program with one of the worst defenses in the entire country.
I gather you haven't watched any Nebraska football lately, but their coach has managed to put together a pretty strong defense in the course of a couple of seasons.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:29 AM ^
It is how a lot of folks on here choose to medicate the troubling reality of the shakey program we have become: Talk glowingly about tomorrow hoping like heck they'll be right.
I enjoy reading it, hoping they are right. Reality has a way of biting us when we line up 11 on 11 against upper echelon programs though.
November 22nd, 2010 at 1:50 AM ^
The wrongness of all of this is amazing.
November 22nd, 2010 at 9:01 AM ^
This is how you treat a polite, wonderful Husker guest?
The talk of Michigan beating anybody not named Indiana (and then, only barely) is becomming the stuff of comedic legend.
I'm not under the impression that "Get Ready for this freight train" means waiting at least two or three more years until Rodriguez has this thing "rolling."
November 22nd, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^
It just dawned on me that Rodriguez has just completed something extremely rare, I'm sure.
He totally *PWNED the state of Indiana this year. First it was Notre Dame. Then Indiana fell victim to this machine. And lastly, Rodriguez completed this epic barnstorming session THROUGH the state of Indiana by resoundinly trouncing Purdue. AND ALL ON THE ROAD!
I submit this might be the first time anyone has ever accomplished this herculean feat. Lucky for Indiana State they don't have a football team. Otherwise, Larry Bird'strek toward a BCS bowl would have run into a semi-solid jello wall of fail.
November 22nd, 2010 at 9:52 AM ^
Wait, am I doing it wrong?
November 22nd, 2010 at 1:33 AM ^
Both teams have a chance basically every year, simply based on the rivalry. I think we match up with OSU better than Wisconsin, along with the fact that Wisconsin is better than OSU overall. The offense will have to be clicking the entire game and a flat start won't turn out well.
With that said, the defense's appalling display of fundamentals is just heart-wrenching. Watching guys like Kovacs and Vinopal try to tackle is unbearable at times. Luckily, OSU doesn't have the same downhill running game that Wiscy has, at least not to the same extent. If the D stays organized and makes a play or two and gets off of the field, then there's always a chance for the offense to take over. But it's going to take mistakes from OSU for Michigan to have a serious chance at winning, in my opinion.
But any sort of defeatist attitude going into this game is ridiculous. It's not as if this OSU team is especially good compared to some of their recent teams and UM will be competitive if they execute offensively like they've shown they can this season.

November 22nd, 2010 at 7:24 AM ^
Our offense has only been consistent against middling or bad teams. It has to be consistent, not just real good to pump up the stat line in garbage time, if we are to have any chance down there
November 22nd, 2010 at 2:29 AM ^
Our challenge is on the Offensive Side. The O must play well early! If we don't turn the ball over and our offense clicks early in the game we're in the battle.
I believe The Game this week comes down to our great Offense (when executed properly) against their defense. Maybe we can catch them over pursuing on certain plays. We saw some of that during the Iowa game.
I make no assumptions with regard to our defense for obvious reasons. We all know It's Pryor's Day if he wants it bad enough. Just maybe Kenny D. gets a nice shot at him on one of those long stride 4.3sec/40yd bootlegs. (a guy can't dream) Here's hoping for something that will make them say "Oh #$%^ at the horseshoe! Play hard Wolverines! Hard Edge I believe it's referred to around these parts.

November 22nd, 2010 at 3:31 AM ^
Pryor has been unimpressive against UofM in both years so far (Hell, he almost threw a pick-six in the 08 season (at OSU) before our offense decided to yakety sax it up and miss the field goal). Yes, it was a blow-out in the 08 game, but that was mainly from the running back whose name I don't remember. Last year, we had a "meh but HOLYSHITGRAHAM" defense and held OSU to 21 points in an impressive defensive effort. These guys clearly get amped up for this week, so who knows what may happen. I agree that the 2010 offense is better than the 2009 offense, but is still prone to stalling for inexplicable reasons or Lewan's donkey-hating. I see us scoring 21-28 points in this game, easily. Will OSU score more? Probably. But our young and collectively undersized defense is much better equipped to face OSU than Wisconsin's huge size advantage (which showed in our lack of stopping any of their runs). I see us at about a 25% chance of pulling it out, with a 25% chance of getting blown out.
But next year...
Improvements:
MICH, Purdue, Illini, PSU (at least their offense), Northwestern, Notre Dame
Same:
Indiana, Minnesota. OSU, MSU (gain some on O but lose some on D), Nebraska
Drop-offs
Iowa, Wisconsin
I'll argue that Michigan will still be better than Purdue and the Illini despite their improvements. Northwestern is a frightening game. ND will be close. (3-1)
lol Indiana and Minnesota, 50/50 with OSU at home and 60/40 of beating MSU, Nebraska is interesting, because you'll never know which team will show up (3-2)
Iowa gets younger and we get older. (1-0)
A 9-3 season is definitely within reach next year, with 10-2 being more likely than 8-4.
November 22nd, 2010 at 3:38 AM ^
I have faith that our guys are going to show up and play their best game.
... OSU better do the same or it'll be the start of a new era.
OSU is overrated this year (more so than usual).

Well, I just ran the numbers on my diary predictor and it isn't pretty. Margin of defeat is anywhere from 7-31. The defense is going to have to play their best game of the season and the offense is going to have to go off. UM is going to have to win the TO margin by at least 3. Not impossible, but it's getting there. I'll be screaming my ass off come Saturday.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:08 AM ^
This 3-3-5 isnt going to stop anyone...maybe its a good defense for spread type offenses, who knows. I have never seen a D so horrible at stopping a simple handoff. The LB's are invisible. This D lets the running back into the 2nd level so easy and you cant win when your Safeties are trying to make tackles on a simple hand off.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:25 AM ^
* UM is a 19.5-point Vegas underdog (10-point dog in '08 Cap One Bowl against Gators for a point of comaprison).
* Stonum, Roh, Martin all injured - thats a torpedo to midships for this team if these 3 all sit against OSU.
* OSU now sits just one rank below Wisky in BCS - a signature win could leap them into a guaranteed BCS berth, so Tressel won't be inclined to take his foot off the gas like he has in the past.
It looks bleak from every angle, but I'm hoping our seniors can rally the troops to give Justin Boren a loss to UM for his last game in Ohio Stadium. That traitor deserves to be ground into the turf by the Wolverines and I hope our guys can give him a really bad experience in his last game in Colbumbus. I'll be at the Upper Deck in Ft Lauderdale with the South Florida UofM Club cheering my ass off, and praying quietly that Justin Boren pays for his sins.

lose big, get knocked down to a bowl we can possibly win. I say this as a RichRod supporter. The ugly will be uglier by next week this time. Fortunately, I will have decamped to finish a chapter of my dissertation and will avoid this place until bowl time, or after. . .

Michigan Wins when:
- The pregame meal for OSU consists of tainted meat that gives a large portion of the OSU team food poisoning, causing them to play 2nd and 3rd stringers.
- Justin Boren, upon hearing that the pre-game meal isn't available, proceeds to eat the other OSU offensive linemen
- With 2nd and 3rd stringers playing in the OSU Off and Def 2 deep (and Justin Boren in a food induced coma from eating 3 300lb + lineman), OSU still rolls up 41 points and over 300 yards on the ground against Michigan's doormat of a defense.
- Denard goes for 300 passing and 300 rushing, 0 TO's, and scores the game winning TD as time expires leading UM to a 42-41 victory.
Michigan loses when:
- None of the above happens.
