Michigan fans(and students) disappoint me

Submitted by Michigan4Life on

I was told that they were booing Michigan for the entire 2nd half and actually cheered when Denard "threw" an INT.  Michigan does not need that kind of fan and they should cheer for other team if they don't want to see Michigan do well.

The only really big boos were when the team went into the locker room at halftime. Also, when they did the decibel test thing there were some people booing the entire time.

The crowd today was actually not as obnoxious as I expected them to be.

My problem there was not the mentality of sitting on the ball, it was the the idea of running your quarterback (obviously our best player) two plays in a row when you had no intention of scoring. In that situation you pound your running back for two plays up the middle and see if anything happens. If Denard got hurt in that situation, it would have just been bad for RR.

If he had just taken a knee at the half. But to run Denard twice, get a first down, moving the ball, and just waste the time away made no sense. Either go for it, or take a knee.  Why give them two free shots at Denard to run out the clock? It didn't make sense as either a caution "go-for-it" or a "let's just get into the half".

As a student, I don't really know what you're talking about. I feel like the fan support from the student section was appropriate. We were loud when Wiscy was on offense on (then) crucial drives, bummed when bad things happened. Maybe it was different for me because I was in rwo 92, but I didn't see/hear anything you're talking about.

The only time the student section was collectively booing was when we did not use any of our timeouts at the end of the first half.

There may have been some, but they are not real Michigan fans.

Now, people may have been booing after the field goal try and when going into halftime, but not the entire second half. People were pretty fired up after those two TD's to open the quarter.

Yeah, that's 100% false. Student section was quiet for the first half because there wasn't much to cheer about, but really picked it up in the second.

Wisconsin fans I met were great as well. A little rowdy, but had a lot of great conversation about the direction of each program. They're convinced Rodriguez will get things going in a huge way soon. They mentioned that they're just trying to enjoy this season as much as possible, because they'll be doing a bit of rebuilding next year.

This assumes the booers were booing the players.  Personally, I don't think that was the case.  As posters have noted above, I suspect they were booing the coaching decisions at the end of the half.

From my living room and in my own head, I was booing the fact that, in addition to our team not being very good on defense or special teams (after another questionable coaching decision to go for a FG that was likely to be missed), our fearsome offense was shut out for an entire half by a defense that isn't considered elite (at least not by this blog's game preview).

When we were still down only 10 points and needing to score or at least give our defense a rest by avoiding a three-and-out, the play calling included a handoff to Smith for 2, a Robinson keeper for no gain, and a bubble screen (flare) to Smith on 3rd and long that got swarmed.  If there was a point where *I* wanted to boo (again, in my living room and in my own head), that was it.  And it would've been directed at the coaches, not the players or their execution.  If we actually, you know, call some plays that demonstrate a little more urgency, but we still don't get the 1st down, I'm disappointed but probably not upset with the play calling.

Having said all that, I agree that booing sends the wrong message to the team and any recruits in attendance.

Hey, moron, how about you actually, you know, try to confirm facts and...I don't know....um....STFU unless you know what the hell you're talking about?

I'm a senior. This was my last game. I stayed till the very end.

If there were a few people around him booing he could have gotten the wrong idea.  But was he even in the student section?  If not, then your post title is very inappropriate.  This is the last game for the senior students, who've experienced probably the most frustrating 4 years of Michigan football.  Yet from what I can tell on TV this year and in the stadium previously, they are just as proud and enthusiastic as ever.

Your friend either jumped to conclusions or lied. The only boos came when RR didn't stop the clock to end the first half and when Michigan missed its second or third kick. Wisconsin fans did a cheer for a player whose name sounds like a boo (think Lions cheering Suh) at one point but everyone who did go, including myself, is telling you that your post is fail. Accept it and move on

Actually you do.

Friend At Game: Hey Jerry.

Jerry: What's up, buddy?

Friend At Game: People were booing at the Michigan game today.

Jerry: Wow. I have to go so I can post this juiciness on MGoBlog.

I was disappointed in the fans when the guy behind me would yell "kick a field goal dick rod" every five minutes, even when wisconsin had the ball.

I was disappointed by the guy next to me who kept yelling "we need a coach who can coach BOTH sides of the ball"

Lots of empty seats in the student section at the start of the game. I know the noon start is too early for some but its the f'n last home game of the year.

WTF is going on around here? We lost a game! AHHHHHHHHH! I haven't studied the boards enough, but I didn't here one damn thing for the seniors that are actually busting their ass all year long. Another thing, the season isn't over. We have that one team that graduates awesome pizza delivery men and then a bowl. A bowl. A bowl. A bowl. I said "A bowl" a couple times extra in case anyone forgot we haven't been to one in two years. That would mean we made progress! Whoa! Insane! Our defense isn't that good. We need more stuffed wolverines and some age. Our offense can score at will. We put up 28 on Wiscy.

Jesus, most of us realists expected 7-5 this year. We are 7-4 and could possibly go to 9-4. I think a collective calm the fuck down is in order and then enjoy the players we have. 18-20 years olds on defense and the rest of the team shouldn't make adults on this board act like the Titanic is sinking. If we were 4-7 this year, then yea we need a change. We are getting better. In the age of what have you done for me lately, we sometimes forget that progress may not always be on our time schedule.

So chill the fuck out. Smoke a dube, drink a beer, enjoy night football games, snuggle with your chick or stuffed wolverine, and look forward to next week. If that doesn't work for you or you don't have a stuffed wolverine or gf like me, enjoy this:

Go Blue. Maul the Sweatervest.

ok, our team...not so good.  our coach...knows 1 thing and tries to control something he doesn't know.  if you ask me, we look absolutely no better (same stupid mistakes) than we did at the beginning of the year, or last year for that matter.  people have a right to boo if they want to.  they paid for their ticket as well.  don't fault them for having higher standards for the team than you do.  not everyone is willing to look past all the signs that its not all about "youth" and "transfers" and "injuries".  I'm convinced this team would be no better no matter the situation because of the man in charge.  so please, all you pantywaists that come on here after games bitching because "oh my god...someone booed!, they're not a true "Michigan man"" pull up your skirts and check your undercarriage.  chances are there's nothing there.  not everyone is offended by a little booing that they have to go tell momma.  Quit tryin to kiss mgoblogs ass and just say what you want.

Speaking of dissapointing fans today I witnessed something ive never witnessed before. Two students showed up halfway through the first quarter demanding their seats. We were already packed in there. I admit I wasnt in the right seat or row but i dont think anyone ever is and fans are usually pretty ok with packing in.

but I saw the highlights of the Michigan Wisconsin game. Ouch :(. I hope all of you still have faith in your Wolverines vs Ohio State. They looked really bad against Iowa tonight so there's a chance they could have an off game and with Pryor being dinged up some it looks like you guys might be able to pull it off! Good luck on Saturday! GO BLUE :)
