TomVH: WR Devin Lucien Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

Michigan had been in contact with WR Devin Lucien (6'1", 190 lbs, 4 Star) from Encino, California for awhile. He was offered today. Here's his highlights.

Could this offer mean anything about Sammy Watkins? They seem to be very similar players, and I really doubt we take more than one more WR in this class.

bro. The things I would do for my country for a highlight tape with decent music. Can you imagine how awesome this would be with..."Sing us a song, you're the piano man Sing us a song tonight Well, we're all in the mood for a melody..." or some Slayer.

Edit: or I could press a button and be happy.

Remember, this team has a glut of rising seniors next year at wide receiver.  I think the offense is getting to the point where we can start recruiting guys for a few years down the line rather than hoping for immediate impact.  It may seem like Michigan is going after a bunch of wide receivers, but it would be great to have a strong corps of RS Freshmen receivers ready to take over after Stonum/Odoms/Hemingway graduate after next year.

The defense isn't there of course, but it is good to see the recruiting able to plan ahead.

Wish his tape had some returns or something over the middle. Short stride for whatever reason. Good ball skills and seems fast. Definitely an outside guy.

with your point of need to account for the soon graduating wrs. my one problem is we should concentrate on defense this yr. i think we all know we could look alot like that team from Eugene if we could just field a decent defense!

I like the fact that he's physical once he catches the ball and while running through defenders. Could you imagine SW on one side and this kid lined up on the other? Dee Hart in the flat and DGardner in the backfield as the QB ! Danger Danger Danger for the other big ten teams!

I was thinking the same thing. Remember, Denard is only a sophomore so you could insert him at qb along side these guys as well. But ya in 3 years with these guys being upperclassmen and assuming they are playing at Michigan and  DG at qb...wow that could be one explosive offense. Once the D catches up the sky would be the limit for this team.

WR that catches with his hands so well, and goes across the middle with ease.  Great jumping for the ball ability.  Now here is my question to anyone.  Do coaches miss talent during the season? Just curious as to why a late offer, on what seems a good prospect.

Doesn't seem to catch the ball with anything but his hands. That is what has made some otherwise good receivers great. If SW is better than this kid, and we end up with both of them along with Conway, it will have been a great WR class. Though, I have to admit, we have been getting some good ones with RR at the helm. Reload, not rebuild. That is the key to having good to great teams year after year.

CA recruit... not many of them over the last couple years.  Tate, and a couple offers that went elsewhere.

Hopefully we can get some inroads to CA.  This would be a good start.

Last year we had no recruits from the west, but the year before we got Roh and Lewan from Arizona.

Last year I remember us recruiting Billion Baxter, Joshua Shaw, Kenny Stills, Sean Parker and Tony Jefferson.  IIRC, we had visits from Baxter and Parker.  I can't really remember if the other guys visited.  I forgot about Brennan Clay, but I don't even know if he really gave us a chance.

The thing I like most about him:

He runs picture-perfect routes.  He's one of the better high school route runners I've seen.  He doesn't have amazing speed, but damn...you can get wide open if you run routes as precisely as he does.
