I did this before the season started but attrition always rears its ugly head.  I think these numbers are likely to stick for the 2011 Class.

SS M. Williams seems to be headed for a medical scholarhsip and is not counted.

DE S. Watson or RB K.Grady are uncounted because they are buried on the depth chart and unlikely to be asked back for a 5th Year.

SCHOLARSHIP COUNT: 63

Current Commits: 13 (this includes A.Kinard)

2 of these commitments may be in question (K. Sousa and G.Brown) so we'll have to see how that plays out.

I believe Michigan will be looking to sign 10 more players for the Class of 2011.

The NCAA is fairly lenient on these if you follow the rules of prescribed number of games and whatnot, and can document an actual injury.  I have a feeling they might clamp down harder in the future but right now they give them out much more often than not when requested, especially early in an athletes career.

Didn't realize they were all bunched in 1 class

Do you think Campbell will be an interior line guy?  I thought he played high, wouldn't it make more sense for him to be a Tackle?  Or are they hoping for an Omameh 2.0?

1) Teric Jones should be listed at RB, not SS.
2) Grady is down the depth chart a bit, but I think they will give him a 5th year simply because he can be a solid contributor in certain situations.

When we were attempting to make the ill-fated comeback against Iowa, three straight passes were dropped by a combo of our best receivers, forcing us to go for it on 4th & 10.  Who made that very tough grab to finally move the chains?

One Kelvin Grady.

1) T. Jones was only moved to RB because of all the injuries.  There is no telling where he will be playing next year, and that really doesn't matter for scholarship # evaluation

2) Grady has not seen much playting at  at Slot and its even unclear whether he was ever on scholarship or not.  With all of Michigan's WRs and Slots returning (including Odoms) I only see Grady getting a scholaship if one is still available

I agree with 1) and 2) above and would add some thoughts that do not affect the overall numbers but clarify the position needs:

3) Mike Jones will undoubtedly get a medical redshirt making him a RS soph. next year.

4) Roh is clearly a DE from now on

5) Furman will most likely compete as a WLB as we have good numbers at Spur

6) M-Rob is still more of a Bandit than a true LB

7) Jeremy Jackson does not have a redshirt* - will be a true soph. next year

1) Looking at that chart is demonstrative of the gap between our offense and our defense.  You see rising seniors and juniors on the offense... and a lot of rising sophomores on the defense.  It's a pretty stark contrast, actually.

2) It looks like the OL is pretty thin behind our current starters, at least in terms of freshmen and sophomore backups.  I knew the DL was starting to get thin (we tried to answer that a bit last year), but I thought there was more in the way of reinforcements for the OL.  Should this concern us a bit?

I agree that the OL is looking a little thin, but I think that's something that will have to be looked at after national signing day. With ~10 more open slots in the class, there is room to pick up a couple of linemen. I know Zettle favors DE, but I think Big Will also favored D and he ended up switching.

The OL does look very thin. I guess this is why we've been placing an emphasis on OL recruiting this year. I really hope we get Bryant because (i) he's a monster; and (ii) it likely means we get Diamond next year as well.

I don't see Brandon Herron on your chart. I think he is a RS Jr. this season and could be back as a 5th year Sr next year. Are you including him in the group of guys you think will not be asked to return for a 5th year?

Frankly  all I want is us to get thicker players on our D  front seven going forward. This is the Big Ten and being super fast but undersized won't work. I think everywhere else, especially at the DB, we're solid.
