His Dudeness

Frost is going to be tried out here as a WR or TE and then flipped to LB (hopefully) unless his body doesn't develop into a LB type. That is what I am getting from what I've read. He wants to play WR so we are telling him he can give it a shot.

Re: Auburn situation, every once in awhile you see a program that has traditionally been horrible at recruiting go apeshit one year and get a top 5 class. Look to UNC, Auburn, Clemson (recently), etc. You could also look to OSU in basketball (a few years ago). None of this is based on any facts, but it is hard to overlook when suddenly out of nowhere a school completely bucks a trend. The thing is if they don;t get caught in that initial year they can play it by the book s and coast on their wins and the perception that they are "up and coming" for years later (how I believe OSU in basketball is successful right now). I curse my filthy conspiracy loving brain.

First of all, position switches aren't exactly forced by the coaching staff.  They'll only do it if the player is on board, otherwise it doesn't work out for anyone.

Secondly, I'm sure Frost and RR are on the same page with the coaches' intent on Frost, position-wise.  If Frost was intent on never playing LB, he'd make that clear and RR would decide if he still wants him.  And if RR sees a position switch in his future, he'll let Frost know so he can decide if that's a deal breaker or not.

Either way, Frost has mentioned a few times that if LB is the best place for him, he'll play it.  And at the end of the day, these guys want to see the field and will likely play whatever spot gives them the best shot at it.

I think the situation with Frost would be handled more delicately, because a position switch has already been discussed.  So both parties are aware of a potential change.

However, sometimes kids are "forced" to play positions that they don't want to play and end up transferring.  It doesn't happen a lot, but the Brandon Smith situation and his subsequent transfer were largely due to the fact that the coaches wanted him to play linebacker and he wanted to play safety.

Yeah, I agree with this. Brandon Smith was not a guy who was good at one position and forced to play another one. He was a guy who wasn't good enough to see the field at one position, and the coaches told him his only shot at playing was moving. Frost's situation is more of which side of the ball he's prefer, not between a position he's able to play and one he isn't.

Jones, Morgan and Frost/Grant/Dawson. With that haul we would get a headliner, a local tough guy and a guy in Jones who just seems like he has all the intangibles to be a great LB. Recruiting LB's has proven to be a difficult task and any combination of these three covers a lot of ground.
