UM faithfuls in AZ

Submitted by Foreverjian on

So there's a group of us down in Tucson (6) of UM faithful and all from Ann Arbor.  I just realized TomVH is 2 hours north of us, and it got me to wondering who else is out here in sunny AZ?  Does anyone hold an open house byob game-day parties?  *nudge nudge Tom*!

I do not hold an open house or anything but I am a huge blue fan and I am currently in Tempe. I am from Cave creek though. And as I have said before I am great friends with Taylor Lewan and his family.

I visited Tucson in September for a wedding for the first time since I was very young, it was pretty sweet.  But too damn hot!  Definitely liked it down there though.  Sorry for not contributing anything here haha

Went to UM through 2006, then moved out here. I'd be interested in getting together with some other Michigan fans/alums, although I often get so worked up during games that I can't imagine I'd be a lot of fun to hang out with.

I lived in phoenix for 3 years before moving down here to tucson and the one thing ive missed the most was going to The Upper Deck in Scottsdale for games.  If any of you dont know about it go check that place out.  Owned by a UM alum and dedicated to michigan sports.  Top floor is UM, bottom is MSU (yuck!), but still awesome.  O and great food

I am also down here in Tucson and big Michigan fan.  I used to go to Upper Deck as well!  I am definitely down to get together if anyone is interested.  Let's set something up!  Any ideas on any places to watch the game?  I went to Scorekeepers on Broadway and Wilmot one year and it was a pretty cool place.  Let me know...

Yes Upper Deck is a good spot to watch all Michigan sports. In a selfish act, I'm hoping we get the Insight bid :/ I will be there. But I've also decided I'm going to the Texas bowl if they go there! Too close not to!

I'm originally from southfield but now I live here in Tempe.  Been here a little over a year now. I don't watch games in public because I get to worked up during the games too.

I don't live in Arizona, but I love it and plan to eventually settle down there. I almost went to Arizona for school, but I think I made the right choice. I'm hoping for the Insight Bowl so I can spend a week or two down there.

people in AZ (and ND as well) They have been around for years and are a big part of the power structure. This continues to be the case. AZ will be a good pipeline to develop, not Florida status but nice. I like what we are doing in AZ.

And trust me, I wield that influence...I showed all my classes that video last year where the tOSU tuba player clocked the tv camera during script Ohio which (band trivia alert, was actually first performed by U of M)...and I used to teach them grammar by having them parse (identify parts of speech) The Victors which (further band trivia alert) was definitely not first performed by tOSU

I'm a student at UM, but am from Scottsdale, and my mom who lives down there is a season ticket holder.

Everyone is from somewhere else in Scottsdale.  I expect a potential insight bowl to attract a lot of M fans.

I live in Scottsdale. I could litterally hit Chapparal High School (Roh and Lewan) with a rock if I threw it acrossed the street.  I just like to watch the games at home by myself...I get a little too worked up to be in public. :)

HailToTheVictors22.....I agree with you about the insight Bowl bid...but I disagree about The Upper Deck....WAYYYYYYY too many sparty fans there.

and if M goes to the Insight, it would be fun if we could organize an MGoTailgate.

Re: Upperdeck. Sorry, but it is probably one of the worst places to see a game, stuck upstairs with the small TVs scattered all over the place, and all the Sparties downstairs doesn't help. If anyone knows anywhere else we could gather, I'm there.

Lived in north Scottsdale and now in east Mesa. Upper deck was bad cuz of overpriced subpar food. would be cool if Michigan came here for bowl game. Certainly a lot of Michiganders out here to pack the stadium! By the way, high school math teacher with huge Michigan banner hanging in classroom!

I'm number eight. The best place to watch a game in Tucson, in my opinion, is the Depot on Fort Lowell. They don't always open early enough for noon U-M starts, but they also are not usually busy for college football, so you can commandeer the place. They have tables big enough for a 12-20 person party. Smoking section in back, if that is your thing. Shuffleboard, pool, and this 60-year-old barfly Ralph does a wicked Sinatra impression for Saturday karaoke (starts after all games, except Hawaii at home). Little known fact: Ralph has nipple rings. Don't ask how I know this.

I've lived in Tempe for about 5 years now.  Half of my neighbors are UM fans.  We usually get together for games with 15-20 people.  Tons of Mich fans down here...

Worried about the potential lack of BLUE support around. Good to hear that there are places to actually watch the game! Would love to meet some of ya'll when I get out there.

I'm in Tempe (student at ASU) and I go to Upperdeck for the games on BTN. Pretty fun place to watch and generally a pretty solid crowd. Didn't realize how many Michigan fans were in the area.

I'm in Glendale now but lived in Scottsdale for two years prior. Upper Deck is pretty solid and ill probably head there for the Wisconsin game but with family in town for Thanksgiving ill likely stay home.

I spent 6 yrs living in Tempe for grad school (moved to western VA a year ago) and I would sometimes drive to the B-Dubs in Gilbert. Some Michigan stuff on the walls, some sort of blue Michigan shot specials, good wings, and a dozen or so M fans.

I have lived here for 7 years and there is a good population of Michigan Alums...actually there are quite a few Big Ten Alums out here.  I have been to Upper Deck, but after the last visit...I have stayed away...too many Sparties all of a sudden speaking too freely about how great of a team they have and Michigan will never get back to the way they use to be. I had to be restrained...by another frosty beverage.  I typically watch the game by myself...just easier so that I can yell freely and drink cheaper and safer.  The BW-3's in Tempe/Chandler is a Michigan Bar on Saturdays...the BW-3's in Gilbert is a tOSU bar on Saturdays.  The waitresses have mentioned they are required to wear tOSU shirts...they hate the fans for the most part...poor tippers and just obnoxious from what a few told me - wouldn't expect anything less.  If all get together somewhere for a game...I would meet up for sure.
