Is Cam Gordon the new Stevie Brown?
Now the defensive breakdown may say differently but I thought Cam Gordon was huge for us this week. Numerous times I watched him contain plays that have been missed for a good portion of the year. He already has the seek and destroy mentality of a linebacker and looks good on blitzes. He is a constant ball of celebratory energy and the biggest bonus is we keep him out of deep coverage.
One of the better accomplishments for Gerg's time at UofM has to be the way he took Stevie Brown an abortion at safety and made him into acceptable/good linebacker. Are we seeing a similar path for Cam Gordon? If so, can he keep it up for the rest of the season.

are upgrades from the guys previously starting at their respective positions.

But it was nice to see Stevie run out onto the field as a team captain for the raiders when they were going into overtime. Anybody else see that?

I didn't see that, that's awesome! Go go Stevie Brown!

and Stevie Brown was in the thick of things, on defense and kick coverage. He finished with three tackles, as the Raiders won in OT.

I think he will easily turn out to be better than stevie brown cuz he is only a red shirt freshman and will have 3 more years to gain experience and also get stronger and faster!

stevie brown was pretty damn good as a senior, and not just comparing his senior years to previous years.

Ask this question in like 2 years

Brown only played spur for one season.

Sorry but I think you mean Gordon Cameron. He made a ton of tackles in the 1st half on Saturday. Cam Gordon is the guy who inexplicably replaced him in the 2nd half... not sure what that was all about. I hope Gordon Cameron is okay, wherever he is.

Looked Good Saturday, which is awesome because I thought for a while there I was going to have to replace my #4 Jersey... Thanks Cam, you just saved me $50-75, easy.

The most notable play I saw from Cam on Saturday was the play he made on that option read where he very nearly intercepted the pitch. He contained the QB, forced the pitch, and didn't take himself out of the play in the process.
I thought this team, despite the amount of points given up and the one long run, was well prepared for the option. The wheel route on the other hand...

My head almost exploded on that play. I had visions of #4 running into the endzone with the ball in his hand after catching the pitch but, alas, it was not to be.

I know it, man. When his hand reached out, so well timed with the pitch, my heart skipped a bit and I blacked out for 30 seconds envisioning the alternate ending with him tearing down the field for a defensive touchdown. Huh, what happened, I blacked out?

God damn option pitch interception glitch.

I hope we learn a way to defend that before we play OSU, they love that. Also, Brandon Saine is a lot faster than the Illinois running back so the wheel route will be much more dangerous.
November 8th, 2010 at 2:04 PM ^
We were just lulling OSU's offensive coordinator into a false sense of security. GERG told them to let it score so we can blow it up against OSU. It's all part of the epic gamesmanship of the old silverback.
/wishful thinking

yada, yada, yada, ...

Only second start at the position. But had a very good game, and being he is only a reshirt freshman, kid should continue to improve and have a solid career.

I didn't see the game (did get the torrent version, though, so I'll catch up), but it did sound like Gordon made some nice plays. That said, the defense still gave up 65 points, so I'm sure there were some breakdowns. I think this defense has quite a few players that will be playmakers in a couple of years, and thankfully the offense is good enough to keep them in games until then.

There were 3 OTs though so 20 of those points were after regulation. Also, we held them to 6 in the first quarter and scoreless in the 3rd. The 65 is a little misleading... But not by much haha.

If Cam Gordon can put on 10-15 lbs and not lose any speed he might be a pretty good Outside linebacker!
November 8th, 2010 at 6:27 PM ^
He is listed it 6-3, 210. If he can add 25-30 pounds he may end up moving inside. 235-240 is a good sized linebacker no matter where he plays.

Both really tall linebackers who have moments of awesomeness and moments that make you shake your head. The difference is Crable did that throughout his career, while Gordon still has time to correct it.
November 8th, 2010 at 2:05 PM ^
is it on purpose?
It's "the body will achieve", or an old-timey way of saying "mind over matter"
November 8th, 2010 at 2:02 PM ^
I think Crable was exceptionally fast too wasn't he?
Cam looked like a natural though didn't he? Between him and Marvin Robinson...and the Kenny Demens, Kovacs...I love our young guys. It hurts when they make me throw things at the wall because of failure to contain, or missed tackles, or poor angles, or slowness....or...nevermind....but those guys are learning and are making plays.
Maybe it was just me, but I felt liek our defense played better. Take away 2 really bad plays (Leshoure on the wheel, and Mouton's missed tackle...which Avery played well by forcing him back inside) our guys seemed to be in much better position to get thigns done.
