They need to work on shedding blocks. Notice the key block by the 20 yard line which eliminated any chance of the ball carrier being caught from behind.

I thought Vinopal was moving quite fast when I watched the replay tonight.
I love his grittiness though. He came up with a huge stop towards the end of the game, among other commendable plays on his part.
November 8th, 2010 at 5:29 AM ^
His grittiness is okay I guess. I think his moxie is what really is going to make him a star. That and his solid fundamentals.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:46 AM ^
he will be a stud. He is getting better at grittifying his moxie, but to play at this elite level it is more important to have some grit with the appropriate amount of moxie topping. Jim Leonard learned how to moxificate his grittuitous nature early in his career and has been perfecting the art ever since - I heard last week that he has now moved on to grimoxitting his intangables. Something to shoot for, Ray.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:09 AM ^
Assuming he wants it more, of course.
November 8th, 2010 at 12:15 PM ^
Moxification of grittiness + Barwisization = much win.

First that guy sneaks into the stadium with a rifle during the MSU game and now this? Where is the stadium security? UNACCEPTABLE!
but seriously
Vinopal was moving quite fast
He's showing he's got some speed, which ATM is lacking in our secondary. I remember a teammate mentioning that Vinopal might be one of the fastest guys on the squad (aside from DRob). Only downside for him is A) a freshman and B) not very big. B will be solved via Barwis. A will be corrected with time. I think he's going to be a good safety.
November 8th, 2010 at 9:48 AM ^
He's actually pretty big for his height. I thought I heard he weighed like 200 or something like that which is big considering he's only a 5'10" freshman. Ed Reed is 5'11" and 200 lbs and he plays in the NFL.
November 8th, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
While I can appreciate his moxie and grit, I believe it is the fact that hes a real "student of the game" that will make him a great white-man DB.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:39 AM ^
Your talking about Mouton right? I saw this play when I was at the Cubby Bear in Chicago and it was a good thing their weekend beer special is 4 160z beer bucket for $12.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:56 AM ^
I believe the OP is referring to Mouton's pathetic attempt at a tackle.
Angles and tackling drills are something that are worked on during the spring and in pre-season camp. 9 games into the season? Meh, I wouldn't expect much change UNTIL THE BOWL GAME! Woo Hooo, bowl practice.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:04 AM ^
The timing of the cat sniper's shot shows that he was clearly targeting Vinopal.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:35 AM ^
Bullets travel faster than the speed of sound, you hear its sonic boom. If the kitten was far enough away, the sound could conceivably take 4 seconds or so to reach your ears.
Helluva sniper shot to hit a moving target from 1000 yards+ though.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
Hell's Bells. I watched that video 3 times this morning before work and didn't see that gun appear behind the coach.
Sorry for the uninformed fan response.
Please continue.
November 8th, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
I had to watch it twice before I saw the sniper... put it down to Monday.
November 8th, 2010 at 12:30 PM ^
Yeah, he pops up there rather quickly. I didnt have very many frames to work with for that part. The clip of Koenning is actually from later in the 2nd quarter. The origional clip doesn't show the sideline.
If you turn your audio up, you can hear the shot as well.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:31 AM ^
If he makes that tackle the entire game may play out different. Time cotinuem duh!

Slow white kids= moxi
Black players = swagger
Makes you wonder if UM security allowed in weapons for another game
November 8th, 2010 at 9:29 AM ^
No, Irish people have swagger as well.
November 8th, 2010 at 9:45 AM ^
I don't think we're talking about the same thing.
just sayin'
November 8th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
I guess most people on here haven't heard of Flogging Molly.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:27 AM ^
Heard of them but I don't listen to them so if you're referencing a song I definitely missed it.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:05 AM ^
Swaggering is not the same as drunken stumbling.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:21 AM ^
No we Irish stagger.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:02 AM ^
That's called stagger.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:04 AM ^
That's called stagger.
EDIT: apparently I can't read all the post correctly before noon.
November 8th, 2010 at 9:31 AM ^
Can roll. What you talkin bout?
November 8th, 2010 at 9:01 AM ^
This will ultimately be solved by recruiting the position
November 8th, 2010 at 9:27 AM ^
Any idiot knew this not tying your shoes thing was gonna come back to bite us. It will never work in the B10 and now it is spreading. RR must go.
November 8th, 2010 at 9:37 AM ^
That was poor technique by Mouton. He should lead with his right shoulder. Instead he leads with his left shoulder, whiffs, then tries to arm tackle. He also stutter-stepped for some reason which negated the angle he had on the runner. I think he was more worried about a cutback, although I'm not sure why.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
His short, stumpy legs have to move so fast to cover the same amount of ground that non-stumpy players do that it makes him look gritty. He's still stuck at the moxie level.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
Mouton will not be here next year. That was an epic whiff by Mouton. He made a great play at the end of the game but it's things like this that make him so frustrating to root for day in day out.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:54 AM ^
Ray has a nice little motor there. Too bad that turf monster creeped up and took him out.
November 9th, 2010 at 1:05 AM ^
One of the more frustrating things about that play was that James Rodgers almost got to the play (coming from the other side of the field) but was BLOCKED by the official (back judge?). You can't see it in the replay, but if the official gets the hell out of the way, we might have had a stop for a first and goal. (Not that *that* would have necessarily ended differently...)
