OT: Texas 2010 vs. UM 2007
Question for the board here:
Who is the bigger Preseason top 5 bust, 2010 Texas or 2007 UM?
UM lost to AppSt., blown out by Oregon, then realed off 8 straight wins enroute to to a bowl win vs. Heisman Tebow's Florida Gators.
Texas has lost to a poor UCLA team, and is standing at 4-5 with only one more sure win at FAU. OkSt. just destroyed a Baylor team that beat Texas, and Texas A&M just handily beat Oklahoma. I sense them finishing at 5-7.

Horror, Oregon.
Also we had senior Jake Long, Chad Henne, Mike Hart and some awesome receivers. All in the NFL. Texas lost Colt McCoy and Shipley and probably some others I am forgetting. Texas was simply overrated; we underperformed like hell.

Texas might not even make a bowl. And loaded with talent? Texas has been top 4 in recruiting like every year. You can't count players they don't have, but then act like we didn't have a healthy Henne or Hart for any of the regular season.

I had pretty high hopes for the season and we lost to App State. It's going to be tough for me to find anything worse than that in terms of fail preseason rankings.

Texas was a preseason National Championship contender as well as 07 Michigan. Not to mention Texas is basically 5/4 with a handful of 3 star recruits and Michigan had an injury bug in 07.

Everyone should have seen this coming during the Championship game when McCoy went out. Gilbert is young...a true Sophomore... who is competing in his first starting roll this year.

..........but Texas has been stockpiling 4 and 5 star kids for years and their team is full of them. Shouldn't have been that big of a dropoff IMO.

While we did have the Horror, our other losses were to an 8-4(only due to loss of best player), 9-3 and 11-1 regular season record teams.
And, you cannot discount the 8 straight wins, which, after the first two games, seemed like very wishful thinking if I remember right, particularly the big win vs. PSU.

Texas, and it's not close. Oregon was damn good that year. Texas might have more legit excuses (see Captain Obvious), but they are going 5-7 at best.

Texas, hands down. UofM finished with a respectable final record, Texas may not make a bowl game.

Your points indicate just the opposite to me. The fact that UM was able to rebound and win 8 straight games and beat Florida shows that they grossly underachieved and were the bigger early season bust.
Texas on the other hand is just not a very good team. We knew that after their first loss, second loss, third loss, etc. I've not seen a sign where they can/will turn this season around. 6-6 is very likely.
A senior led UM team in 2007, IMO, greatly underachieved whereas a UT team lead by a true Sophomore was given too much credit based on 2009 successes. UM should have been a 1-loss team, at worst that year.

Team A starts the season ranked #5. They lose 2 early games in embarrassing fashion but then proceed to finish the regular season 8-4 and then beat the heisman trophy winner in a bowl game upset
Team B starts the season ranked #5. They are currently 4-5 and will probably not make a bowl game.
This seems easy to me

Even IF (major if) Texas wins out, i still think that they have had a worse season than our 07 team. Wisc, Osu, and Oregon loses were rather acceptable with the injuries and the fact that they were really good teams. Texas just is pathetic with the amount of 5/4 star recruits that they've had the past years.

That one is absolutely stunning in retrospect. It reminds me of when a bad MSU team somehow beat a great OSU team in Columbus (which otherwise went undefeated) in '98. College football can be very, very weird.

.....that if we can somehow find a way to beat Wisky, who looked somewhat beatable today, we finish 8-4 and probably end up in the Gator Bowl. Would be nice, IMO.

Losing to that Oregon team was certainly not a bad loss (they would have played for the MNC if Dixon hadn't been hurt against Arizona), though the Horror obviously is a major black eye. I think this year's Texas team will rebound a bit and probably be bowl eligible, but that 2007 team would wipe the floor with them when you consider the amount of talent they had that just was shocked early on by App St.

The team this year that most reminds me of Michigan 2007 is Virginia Tech. They lost to James Madison (our Appy State) and Boise (our Oregon) to start the year 0-2, and they have won 7 in a row since....familiar...

......that as well as they are playing, they might end up winning out. At least until their bowl game, and maybe even then. They could finish at 12-2 on the season and be outside the top ten when all is said and done.

Flip that. Texas is full of 4/5 stars and have pathetically underachieved this year. Michigan did loose to Appy, but the 3 other loses were not bad loses.

Still, in the end we lost to a FCS team while ranked in the top 5. Texas shouldn't be this bad with that talent and I haven't paid attention to know what the problem is, but they still didn't lose to an unheard of team in the middle of the mountains. Hell, I live in northern Virginia and had never heard of them until the game.

This is a bad comparison because the answer is this:
Texas is somewhere between Michigan 2007 and Michigan 2008. They did not have the mass exodus that Michigan had after the 2007 season, but they still lost their golden boy QB and have had a serious fall from grace.

Bigger bust.........rankings shouldn't come out in August, it doesn't make any sense....
