Stadium noise thoughts

Submitted by arod on
I'm curious as to what other people thought about the volume inside the stadium. I thought the end of the 4th and 3 OTs were the loudest I have heard that place in 7 years.

which is on the visitors side, around the 40 and it was loud but not as loud as I hear it in other parts of the stadium; I expected differences in volume, but not that much. Yeah, late in the 4th and especially in that last O.T. it was loud; the crowd was ,like, willing the team to win with noise, it was great. I think I sound much sexier with a deeper voice...:)

I was at Wisconsin 2008 and Iowa this year. All of them awesomely loud.
But to be honest, today when they got him on the last play, we were jumping and screaming so loud it was hard to process noise level. Surreal and beautiful
I think what's clear is the stadium improvements have given us a louder stadium. Met some guys from North Carolina up for the game, they loved it

I was at both those games and I would have to give the nd game the edge. However I was in the student section for the nd game and for this one I was surrounded by people who seemed to think it was poor etiquette to cheer at a football game. Seriously, I can't stand how many people at Michigan games don't make noise. Great wins in both regardless.

I was able to return for the Iowa game and was very impressed by the volume in the stadium, which I accredited to the renovations as well as what I thought was a new found (revived?) passion in the fans. Even some of the more "mature" fans whom I had become accustomed to seeing planted comfortably on their seats were standing the entire game. In regards to the changes in the physical environment, it was great to hear our collective cheers and singing echoing back to us off the boxes.

When my mom turned on the TV in the 2nd OT, she told me she had to immediately turn the volume down because it was blowing up the speakers.

As far as firsthand experience, obviously everyone stayed to the end and the place was going absolutely wild. I was in section 25 and as far as I could see in either direction, including the 50yd line crowd, people were standing and cheering from the last half of the 4th quarter onward. The fans in the boxes above us even started a "Go Blue" chant with the student section. It's hard to objectively measure loudness, but I was with a friend who hadn't been to a game in 2 years and he swears it's the loudest he's heard it too.

Also to the '06 alumni in front of me and my friends in section 25: Thank you for your contagious energy and for supporting us in our objection to inappropriate 3rd quarter wave starting, we had an awesome time!

Stadium noise definitely depended on the score of the game, at least from where I was standing in the student section. It seemed like everyone was on pins and needles when the team was down. It was quieter than second floor UGLi. At the end of the game, when we needed the big stops, the noise levels rose. For pure celebration, on that last play, it was as loud as has been since I came to Michigan, though as I said before, I was in the student section.

I've been to every home game since I arrive in AA in 2005, and this game was the 2nd loudest I've ever heard the stadium, at least while sitting in the student section.

I'll agree with RowoneEndzone that the ND game last year was the loudest I've ever heard personally, because I can remember both losing my voice, hurting my throat, having a headache, and a ringing in my ear for 2 days after that game.

However, I will say that the absolute happiness and elation felt and experienced throughout the student section was right up there with the feelings after the win against PSU in 2005.

Hugging random strangers has never felt so damn good! Go Blue!

It's funny how the noise level really seems to depend on where you were. Obviously it was loud at the key moments at the end of the game, but I thought it was a dead as it's been in there in a long time for long stretches of the game.

Yeah, for three quarters I thought the crowd was pretty average. My section (42) really didn't get into it, on an every-play basis, until the fourth quarter. But from then on it was excellent.

in ot ...

it got so loud right before the illinois 2 pt fail, it may be the only time a crowd got more pumped up immediatly following a td from the other team .. it was like we knew that 1 play was it

I think there was good crowd noise when it was warranted; I'm next to Sec. 44 (see above) and we were really working to make noise on all the 3rd down plays. (The Illini were surprisingly unsuccesful on the 3rd down conversion numbers.)

Hey -- where were all the students today?!? The top 5-6 rows were mostly empty. Student sections, exclusively. The rest of the place was packed.

I only recognized a handful of the students around me.

As others have said, I felt that we were really quiet for a good portion of the game. The 5 or so people in front of me weren't even watching the game; one guy was just staring across the field at nothing. The 5 or so girls behind me were talking about text messages. Although I'm impressed by the fact they got service inside the stadium but why even show up if you're not going to pay attention?

Right next to the student section and it was the quietest game I been to in a long time, until the end of the 4th and overtime. A lot of fans were commenting on it in the section next to me. But it didn't help that sections 33 & 34 were basically sitting down 85% of the game.

I have ever heard it in the Big House. It was VERY loud today when it needed to be, but I thought the Iowa game was the loudest overall. MSU pretty loud too.

Hmm. I was at the game and I don't remember much about the crowd noise. Honestly. I was so disgusted by the defense AND so incredibly nervous that I didn't notice the crowd noise. And I was sitting one row over from the student section.

This felt like the triple overtime game against Sparty from 2004...a game I was also at. On that day and today, I screamed and screamed and screamed once the game was over and then I felt like I was going to pass out.

i work security, and I was on the field from the 4th quarter on, in the north endzone, east of the goalposts, and I could hardly hear myself think. It was absurdly loud. The student section had alot to do with it, but it was obvious to me how much more energy the D had when they were in the north end.

really? I sit in the student section and my section was overloaded with people. I couldn't even move and I had to stand on my seat sideways. I am lucky I am a very skinny guy. I can guarantee that a lot of people that sit in the uppers in the student section were crammed in the bottom of the stadium. Even still the students are much louder than the rest of the stadium.

The MOTION of the stadium was hilarious, during the OT's. A few times during OT, I looked behind down at the bleachers, and I realized that as the game had moved from one endzone to the other, the entire section, and presumably stadium, had shifted 9 or 10 seats in the direction the action was at. I'm surprised we didn't warp the bowl.
