History in Happy Valley
Probably stating the obvious here, but I can't help but think this is the last time we'll see JoePa vs. Michigan.
This game is huge and it comes at a critical juncture in the season and while I can't wait for a dominating win, I have been thinking about what it means to have JoePa on the sidelines. He brings history, tradition, integrity, character and sincerity to the game in a way we so rarely see today.
We will never see another of his kind again in football at any level, I have no doubt. Enjoy this game and root for Michigan to win, but remember to notice JoePa and watch him coach against us for probably the last time. Regardless of the outcome, I trust the Michigan Men on the field will recognize the history represented there.

I thought the same thing about 10 years ago. Don't put anything past JoePa.

This does not look good for the M-hockey team. Down one with just over two minutes.

For those who care, M just scored with 12 seconds left to tie FSU 2-2.

I honestly believe that Joepa watched what happended to both Bear Bryant and Woody once they retired and has decided he's not stepping down....ever. My father passed away last year at age of 86 and it absolutely blows my mind to think of a man only three younger than he was coaching a football team.

What else is he going to do? He is an icon and loves everything about college football.

Our season, Denard's Heisman hopes, Rrod's tenure, Bill Martin's reputation, a recruiting bounty, my sanity, Dave Brandon's decision, Mike Barwis' weight lifting program, Joe Pa's retirement, my marriage, our future...Let's see how much more shit we can pile on top of the outcome of this game. ; )

Other than that though.........

What was that word?
Did you say "Utes?"

your marriage? Can we get a picture of the wifey? I'll still root for Michigan, but, I'm just sayin'...

Plus 1,000,000 for the "my marriage" thrown in there. You, sir, win the day. (Well, so far. Hopefully Denard wins the day)

JoPa. I root for them when they dont play Michigan. I've never had a problem with him. Tomorrow night though, I'd love to see his glasses explode on his face from anger. What a nice memory that would be of JoPa.

JoePa is a class act through and through. I wish he would coach for the next 10 years.

Never liked Penn State, but always liked JoePa. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it is. He seems like a genuinely good guy. The insanity the past couple of years has just added to the fun.

and basically feel the same way.
I'll never be quite satisfied with the education I received there or the academic environment, but I am proud as hell of Joe Paterno. Just one hell of a person.

What was wrong with the academic environment? I thought PSU was pretty highly regarded in that area.

Edit: dumb

After tomorrow's matchup, a new record will be set for most wins ever in Division I college football.

It actually hadn't occurred to me that this might be JoePa's last game vs Michigan. I'll definitely be thinking about it.

It's kind of a shame that Nebraska is in our division and not PSU. Then again, Nebraska is a real rival (1997 and that great 1986 Fiesta Bowl defensive battle).

I'll miss those uniforms.
October 30th, 2010 at 2:03 PM ^
I can't consider Nebraska a rival. Not yet, anyway. Maybe in a decade.
I'll definitely miss playing PSU. This will be the 16th time in 18 years we've played them To go from that to only playing them 40% of the time really stinks. Right now I consider PSU the third most important Big Ten opponent after OSU and MSU.
October 30th, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
Maybe Nebraska has the potential to become more of a rival than Penn State, but they aren't yet. We can't have played them more than a couple of times. Not much basis for a rivalry despite the 1997 MNC.

imagine college football without Joe Pa. He's one of the last true Icons of the game. Bo, Woody, Bear, Eddie Rob, and that dat gum Bobby, Era, John Robinson, Switzer, Royal, Dye, Dooley and others I can't recall. Who will ever be like these guys over time.
Wow I feel like Iv'e seen some real ledgends in this game in their prime
