Former Commit, Current Razorback DeQuinta Jones Arrested on Drug Charge
Looks like it worked out well for us after all.
(DeQuinta was a class of 2009 decommit who ended up at Arkansas.)

Plenty of young people smoked pot in the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. They didn't all suddenly realize, "Holy shit, this devil weed is illegal!" and put down the bong when they reached middle age.
People who smoke weed keep smoking weed. They just lie to their kids about it.

What you say is probably right, but that doesn't make it okay. At the risk of sounding like the morality police, the last time I checked its an illegal activity. As such, people do not need to get used to it, at least not until its legalized.
October 27th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
You do sound like the morality police. Unless you can show how its use has a direct effect on you, I dont understand why it would concern you so much.
Oh, and I mean direct effect. Not "I read a news story about a guy that was riding a personal watercraft on a reservoir that borders Mexico and was shot by gang members who are financed by the sale of drugs, and it mad me really sad" type effect. I mean, "Pot shot my mom, and made my dog think it could fly off of the Sears Tower" type effect.

All I need is a copy of the state statutes that list crimes punishable by possible imprisonment. I don't need real-life examples of criminal behavior.

When our last three presidents have all done it (and two openly admitted it), the "it's illegal, end of discussion" stance is pretty weak sauce.
October 27th, 2010 at 5:39 PM ^
If the last three presidents jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?
(Just teasing - my hands are not clean either, I'm just playing devil's advocate (or angel's advocate?).)

They didn't jump off a bridge, now did they?

Driving while impaired is not a lifestyle choice.

Pot =/= alcohol

...stop Jonesing for DeQuinta.
October 27th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
You forgot to add this.
October 27th, 2010 at 8:23 PM ^
So...are you saying you stayed in DeQuinta, while staying in the LaQuinta, in Chicago?!
Oooohhh, the irony!

This wouldn't have been a big deal.
October 27th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
I'm guessing it would turn into a huge deal at 615 W. Lafayette in Detroit, MI.
October 27th, 2010 at 11:42 AM ^
...are making that much of a big deal about some marijuana?
Man, if you don't think many of our guys aren't doing the same, you are living in an alternate universe.
October 27th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
i know for a fact that some of our best players in the past (not going to name any names) have indulged in some mary jane. but what is in the past is in the past, and i do feel bad for the kid. he would most likely be starting for us right now.
October 27th, 2010 at 12:21 PM ^
You're in here for some marijuana? I used to suck dick for coke, you ever suck dick for marijuana? HUH!
October 27th, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
(oh awful TV-friendly dubbing....)
October 27th, 2010 at 12:14 PM ^
despite all the protests and supposed studies and anecdotal stories, possessing marajuana is still illegal and dealing marijuana in siginificant amounts is still a felony in most states. I don't know, I still have this thing about obeying the law when it comes to controlled substances, and obeying police officers instructions potential arrest situations, and not taking illegally obtained steroids even though my sports league didn't SAY they were banned (just federal statutes)....

It's not us that has to set aside the "holier than thou" mentality, it's the law. As long as it's illegal, it's irrelevant how many states have it on the ballot to legalize.
Call me out of touch because I'm over 40, but the law is the law and I don't want our football players getting pulled over with 8grams of weed.
October 27th, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
You've never broken the law? Never had a drink before you turned 21? Never in college did you pull a prank that maybe went a little to far but your victim took it in stride? Never sped while driving? Going a certain amount over the speed limit is a felony, you know.
I get what you're saying. The law is the law and it's pretty easy to obey it when it comes to controlled substances. However, many, many people break these laws on a regular basis and I'd say most never see any legal consequences. Kids under 21 drink, kids under 18 smoke, tons of perfectly good people smoke pot. I wouldn't be too hard on a kid who runs afoul of one of these laws, but that's just me.
October 27th, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
....you don't do it by driving stoned and smelling like pot. That's the #1 rule of being a pot head.
October 27th, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
I always thought rule #1 was "mmmmmmm, Funyuns!"
Clearly I need to get myself back in the game.

I mean everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever.

is not impressed.
October 27th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
...so glad that I live in the Caribbean.
No misdemeanors for driving with controlled substances here, even though we do it all the time.
October 28th, 2010 at 3:47 AM ^
wait what?
Do you mean driving while posessing them, or no penalty for driving under the influence of them?
