Who on the team will get drafted and what round?

Submitted by FingerMustache on

I'm sure this has been done before, but...

im curious to see people's predictions on who on the current roster will get drafted and where in the draft they will go.

Here's my go at it:

Martin - Early 2nd

Van Bergen - 6th round

Roh - 5th round

Mouton - 5th round (only because of measureables)

Denard - early 3rd

Tate - 7th

Stonum - 3rd

Lewan - 1st (top 15)

Schilling - 3rd

Molk - 3rd

Omameh - 4th

Koger - 7th

Denard is a really hard one to predict. If not for the recent successes of Vick and Vince Young, I would have said 5 round. However at this point, teams might be more open to quarterbacks in that mold. On the other hand, a team might take him with the plans to convert him to reciever.

Denard isn't an NFL QB. Vick and Young are markedly taller than he is. He'll make a good Josh Cribbs. Look at Pat White, about the same size as Denard, and he didn't really work out.

You took the words right out of my, uh, keyboard...

I grew up in ATL, so am familiar with Vick as a Falcons player. Definitely not a tall guy, he's 6' at most. I can't speak for Denard's height, but there's probabyl not more than an inch or so difference.

They're both listed, generously, at 6'0. If there's more than half an inch between them, I'd be surprised. Vick has a larger build, though he was a little smaller in college and mostly put on weight before his (redshirt) sophomore season and his first NFL seasons. If Denard can add 15-25 lbs. in the next couple of years, he'll be a near-Vick doppelgänger.

Seeing Martin's name up there freaks me out. Let's hope that doesn't happen in the 2011 draft. I could see him going even earlier than that if he sticks around a year and plays on a defense that doesn't get so much bad publicity.

Mike, if you are reading this, think D Warren. You will not get drafted at all next year, so just stay the course and finish your college career. Anyone who tells you differently is a ruhtard so don't listen to them. Listen to me. You are not strong enough for the NFL yet. Don't leave school untill you can successfully bench a Winnabego and crush an empty beer keg (not a can) on your forehead. Trust me. I am wise and know what I am talking about. NFL scouts and analysts are all ruhtards. Toss them aside like they are Justin Boren and don't look back. I'm glad we had this little talk.

and won't go drafted.

I wonder if the OP's Tate projection is reflective of a transfer.

Tate is starting QB material. I don't hold it against players that transfer inbetween seasons for reasons that are clearly in their self-interest. (Pouting at the end of the first game didn't do anything for Tate. But he got over it.)

Tate won't be drafted because of his size, plain and simple. Nothing against his talent or abilities but he is to small to play in the NFL. There is a chance he gets picked up in FA, but I doubt it.

Molk may be a 2nd rounder but hard to tell.

Koger I think may go in the 3-5th rounds because of his size and ability to make great catches.

Stonum going in the 3rd is a little high but who knows.

Not a bad speculation but you never know how the NFL draft goes. It comes down to what teams draft where and what they need.

Ah my bad Mr. Flutie, you make a good point. Although, I still don't see Tate getting drafted or even playing in the NFL. Again, I love Tate at QB for us as much as the next guy (yet I still would rather have Denard in there because of his ability to get a home run either running or throwing), but I just don't see it happening.

reason I mentioned Brees is because the other guy said that Tate's not going to succeed in the NFL because of his size. I just wanted to point out that smaller quarterbacks can actually have success. Now, how Tate is going to actually perform in the NFL is unknown, but the fact that he is small won't be the deciding factor.

Martin - Early 2nd

Van Bergen - 6th round

Roh - 3th round

Mouton - 5th round (by the raiders)

Denard - 5th (as a WR)

Tate - Undrafted but definitely will get a tryout and will get signed

Stonum - 2rd

Lewan - 1st

Schilling - 5th

Molk - 4th

Omameh - 2nd

Koger - 7th

Added:

Shaw - 3rd

Hemmingway - 4th

I also thing that Ezeh would've been drafted had he not been benched. Everyone else was high on him for some reason.

EDIT: removed things like 5rd because I'm a Trd.

Yes I do. Carlos was too hurt to put together a serious body of work to evaluate. I think Shaw, given his status as a starter before his senior year, has an opportunity to do just that. He's also got over 5 yards/ carry for his college career, and is a better receiver as well.

I don't want to speculate on every single player, but two guys I think are being underrated here I'll talk about.

I can see Mike Martin and Craig Roh both going first round. Main reason being is they both fit in very well on a 3-4 D(DE for Martin, Rush OLB for Roh) which is becoming more and more popular in the NFL. Martin's upside, IMO, is a Richard Seymour type player. That's incredibly valuable as he was one of the main reasons for the Pats being so good for so long, a 3-4 DE that can still disrupt the pass and play the run well. Martin fits that mold perfectly, I think.

Roh is basically playing the 3-4 Rush OLB position already. Unless he spends his last two seasons playing a 4-3 DE after a scheme switch, he'll be very experienced in the role. That will be huge since you see teams picking a 4-3 DE and spending a year or two turning him into a 3-4 rush OLB. Taking a guy with the same skillset but already knows the position will be very enticing to teams.

Shilling in the third seems like a real stretch, and I really don't see Forcier as a pro. Denard can go in the third, but he'll need much better touch on his throws.

Mouton and Martin seem like the only two certain draft picks on the defense right now--and my fandom may be coloring my view on Mouton. Roh has got to either gain some serious weight or become much more comfortable in space to have a chance at a solid NFL career, IMO.

There is a LOT of talent on this team. Young though they may be. If the worst case scenario were to happen, random coach would walk into a hell of a team.

Start with the '97 National Champ Wolverines and look at all the NC since then. The NC scene is riddled with coaches fairly new to their school (3 years or less) and won it all. Carr, Tressel, Meyer, Carroll, Saban (twice), Stoops...

That is not to say that I hope RR goes.

It's hard to go through this exercise because some of these guys will get better before its time for them to even think about the draft.

Unless there is an earlier exit by a guy like Martin, I dont think anyone will get drafted this spring. Maybe Mouton in like the 5-7 round. I dont know why, but I dont see Schilling getting picked. I could see him making a team and earning a paycheck as a pro through the undrafted free agent route.

I have already given up on about half the NFL GM's and brain trusts, I might give up completely if Obi gets picked.

I think we underrate Schilling's pro potential b/c he was 5-star coming in to U of M and while he has turned himself into a good player, he hasn't been dominate and turned himself into an All-American/future 1st rounder.

He's got the size (305 lbs), pedigree (40+ starts in the Big Ten by the time he's done), and no history of injury problems (mono is not a long-term concern, like a knee). He'll probably make 2nd team Big Ten this year.

All that adds up to a drafted player; I'll be shocked if he's not a 4-5th rounder (unless he presses 225 lbs something like 4 times at the combine; I doubt Schilling (let along Barwis) will let that happen).

He deserves to be drafted. I just dont think he will. I would be surprised if he wasnt earning an NFL paycheck somehow a year from now.

I wonder if other guys on the line will jump off the film, undeservingly downgrading him?

It was more of a prediction than a scouting opinion on my part. The latter would be LOL. I stick to picking games.

Gardner is the QB with 1st round potential.

Lewan, Martin, Omameh, Denard (not as a QB) I could see in rounds 1-2.

Molk, Schilling should go in middle rounds and Stonum, Koger, Roh have that potential.

Mouton getting drafted wouldn't shock me, Tate would.

I honestly think after Denard runs his 40 yard dash time of sub 4.3 he will be drafted at the latest early second. Too many teams will be in awe at his Chris Johnson speed and vision and Al Davis will pull the trigger.

Same reason there wasn't much love for Taylor Stubblefield/John Standerford/any # of random Purdue WRs since Tiller got there? I love Roy, but he doesn't have the high end speed, nor the size, nor the jumping ability, nor the ultra-quick shiftiness to impress the pro scouts, I don't think. With a good combine I could see some team taking a late round flier on him. Hemingway and Stonum are the WRs with the best chance to get drafted, but both will need very good combines to get there, I think.
