WVU vs. USF

I for one would like to say that I am very happy we don't have a maize on maize jersey combination.

Maybe this was talked about before, but are Michigan's jerseys darker this year?  I remember thinking the last couple years that they are so light compared to the Nike jerseys, but this year they seemed to have returned to the color we all love.

Am I hallucinating?

Not sure about the blue, but the maize certainly looks brighter than in the past.  Makes the numbers and our pants really stand out and look even better, especially when our team is celebrating a TD or running out of the tunnel.

greatest thing since sliced bread and Casteel is the "best kept secrete in college football" one more time, I'm going to go crazy. Actually, I'll just watch Bridezillas or something else.

Why has the Big 12 sunk to Big East and CUSA levels and started playing games on Thursdays?  They have given up trying to be a major conference too.

I actually feel kind of bad for Noel Devne - guy comes to WVU and is paired up with the best coach in America for his skills (RR), sits behind Slaton is all ready to take off, then is greeted by Stewart his sophomore year.  Kid has had a pretty good career so far, but just imagine how he would look with a competent HC.

It's hook and lateral, officially.  I think so many people have made the mistake that the name of the play changed.  I say lateral, though.

It's kind of like how you'll hear even football savvy people, former players and announcers included say "shuffle pass" instead of "shovel pass."

I'm watching some of the Midland Lee vs Abilene game. Their stadium is better than several Big East stadiums. Abilene looks like they could be a low level Big East team.

It struck me a little strange that since reading Friday Night Lights, I actually knew where those schools were located and why this was a big match-up.  I could not tell you what I ate for dinner yesterday, but years later I can still tell you that the Rebels and Eagles is a major rivlary in Texas football.

From watching this game, it's pretty clear that even if Jeff Casteel came with RR from WVU to be our defensive coordinator, defense would still be a problem because the Big East players are just flat out smaller and less powerful than Big Ten players. Nonetheless, their defense looks very good, LBs look awesome and I love how they all fly to the ball even after the play is over. Would love to see our guys do that...Mike Barwis..Defensive Coordinator? lol

There was a thread after last weekend painting Scott Shafer as a defensive mastermind at Syracuse for holding USF to 6 points. I wonder if those thinking that would still want to support the point after seeing how horrible USF is on offense...

It's Syracuse.  GERG didn't do much recruiting there.  Shafer is doing a good job with what he has.  Right now they're #15 in the country in total D and #11 in scoring D, which is light years better than what they were in GERG's time (not to mention light years ahead of our rankings right now).

Would Michigan have held those teams to similarly low numbers?  I don't know.  We played a terrible MAC team without its starting QB and still gave up 21.

This is Shafer's second y ear there, same as what Michigan fans have given G Rob so that isn't an excuse.

Also comparing him to Michigan isn't an argument either. Michigan's defense is bad just like everyone thought it would be going into the season. That has no bearing on whether Scott Shafer is a defensive mastermind.

There is no possible way that anyone can claim Scott Shafer is some kind of defensive mastermind based off of this years results. The one team they played with an offense put up 41.

Maine shut out by Albany...

Akron was held to 20 points, by Indiana...

Colgate scored 15 points against Furman(Who?)

These are the mighty offenses that Syracuse shut down to get those awesome defensiver rankings. I am impressed.

If they call BJ Daniels a true sophmore one more time I'm going to flip out. I remember him being the QB who tried to get a car out of us when we were recruiting him and as a result we were forced to take a flier on Feagin. Regardless, that would make this his THIRD year, which his profile on the USF website states despite also listing him as a Sophmore (No RS). How can ESPN be so ignorant about the "star player" of this USF team? Sorry, rant over.

I don't know about Daniels asking for a car, but USF doesn't have the resources to give away cars.  There aren't a lot of rich USF alums, and a lot of car dealers have closed down here.  Besides, if they were doing anything remotely like that, it's a very good guess that Jim Leavitt would have threatened to blow the whistle on them and wouldn't have had to try and sue to get what he was owed when he was fired.

Anyway, it would be great to have access to documentation that Daniels did, indeed ask Michigan for a car.  Not saying it didn't happen, but I'm not so sure it did.  I would tend more to believe that Daniels turning down Michigan had more to do with the sandbagging job Terelle Pryor did, leading people to believe that Michigan had a great chance of signing him until far after signing day.

By the time Pryor signed with OSU, it was too late for Michigan to catch up.  I would believe this was intentional and ordered by Tressel before I would believe that Daniels' reason for not signing with Michigan was that he wanted a car.
