Make any interesting bets with a Spartan?

Submitted by bamill010 on

Here are the terms of a bet that I made with a good friend from high school:

  • The loser has to buy a jersey of the winning team for the bet winner.
  • The loser has to wear the jersey the following week during class before handing it over.
  • The loser has to change their facebook picture to the winning team's logo for the week (block m or spartan s.)

I don't care for the facebook part but my friend made that stipulation. I can't wait for a big Michigan win because: a) I don't want to shell out $50 an MSU jersey and b) the football players in my classes would probably kick my ass if they saw me wear it.

Nothing special but for the last 15 years my good friend who is obviously a Spaty fan, we end up betting a case of beer of the persons choosing.

But more importantly my pride is on the line!!!  I can't take another year of this Spartan confidence.

This thread makes an appearance on the Mod Action thread.

(And no; I am not a mayor or university president and have not done this.)

(Also, sorry; I know you're pumped and obviously I have nothing better to do than read every new thing posted here, but the tenor of the blog for the last few days leads me to believe that people will be annoyed about this.)

I was at a party over the summer with a slew of Sparties and one of them piped up about putting money on the game.  I responded with my hand out and "fine, $20 it is!"  He shook my hand and before I knew it I had 3 other Sparties running over yelling "I'll take it".

So, I've got a little more than a simple $20 on this game.   And, 2 of the 4 are going to the game and tailgating so payment will be satisfied asap!

This is not really a bet, but a couple of my buddies and I have this rule where if Michigan loses, we tear up our ticket stubs into small pieces and eat them.  We do not allow ourselves to just down it with a swig of beer either--we have chew and swallow.

We started this in 1993 when were were freshmen at UM and went to the game in East Lansing, where we experienced a painful 17-7 loss.

I bet a buddy $50 before the season that Michigan would win more games than Sparty.  I was REALLY rooting for ND and Wisky to beat them......not so much for the $50 but because he thought I was crazy for suggesting the bet at all

That bet isn't looking to good.  I was actually just checking out the Spartan schedule and they don't have many tough games after this one.  I was surprised to see they don't play Ohio State this year.  At Iowa is probably their toughest game after this weekend.

If the Spartans win in Ann Arbor ( which would sadly confirm that they are a good team) then they might not have more than 1 or 2 losses this season.  Maybe even a chance at running the table (that thought makes me want to vomit).

Yeah, I know. I made it while at a wedding in which many many drinks were consumed.  Had the Badgers and Domers helped me out I would have looked like a genuis right now though.

so I tend to ignore them even more this week.

It will be a bittersweet victory for some of my acquaintances, though. As they watch another Michigan victory, they will know in their evil hearts that they have lost their "RR is gone" bets with me. In a magnanimous gesture, I will wait until the season is over to collect. That will give me 7 more opportunities to remind them that while talking heads must talk, they don't have to know what they are talking about.

I bet $100 with this guy and he gave me Michigan +7.  I love delusional spartans.

I also bet this girl, and if Michigan wins, I get to have sex with her.  I don't know if she'll follow through though.  If Michigan loses though, well, let's not go there.

I really want Michigan to win.

I mean this with the utmost respect and civility....but.....

If THAT ungodly thing is your "punishment" for losing, what does it say that her comparable punishment is sleeping with you?  I pray she posed your payment first and you said "fine, but if we win youll have to sleep with me"

Otherwise she must find the prospect of sleeping with you horrendous.

Haha, no, I was talking about how I'm going to go to OSU for the game, and she said, "if State wins, then you have to wear a maize and blue mankini..."

That's when I said, "Holy crap, that's a death wish, if Michigan wins, you have to sleep with me then."

Needless to say, I'm nervous.

1st part, the requisite wearing by the loser of clothing / apparel of the enemy.

2nd part, if Michigan wins, he comes to church with me.

If State wins, my daughter, a high school senior, goes for a campus visit and applies to State. This is not quite as bad as it sounds. She is interested in large animal science and vet school, and thus, MSU, grudgingly, is a better fit for her than UofM (or so the admissions counselor at Michigan said.) Still think she ends up at Kansas State.

I live in east lansing, and have become hated around here, so might as well take advantage of this upcoming victory..

Three bets for a 6 pack of beer

Four bets for Lunch/dinner of choice

Three bets of 20 dollars.

I am that confident in our team. Lets go blue

My uncle's friend is a sparty and said he expects MSU to win by 13. I said, "haha, that's funny. I've $100 on that if you're serious". Haven't heard back from him yet.

I bet a 6pack of beer on the game with my bro. I went to UM, he went to MSU and was two years younger than me. He was a lot smarter than me in high school and I tried to persuade him to go to UM but all he said was he wanted to go to MSU because it would be easier and hotter chicks. Can't really disagree with him there but whateve. GO BLUE!!
