AP Poll by Voter
Chip Cosby, John Wilner and Scott Wolf all have us unranked. Chip has MSU at 12.

to be fair, I think unranked is more viable than the top10 that over 5 writers have us at

Wears nothing but random (meaning he will appear to rep like 15 different EPL teams over the course of a few weeks) European soccer jerseys (and pants, of course). He is a pretty decent beat writer (stays pretty impartial/critical of the program despite being a USC grad) but the guy is a total goofball.
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
Scott Wolf, goofball? More like debonair gentleman.
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
His efforts to expose the nepotism in their selection process in order to combat the declining hotness of the USC song girls makes up for everything else that Scott Wolf does.
October 4th, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
Seriously? He's devoting time to reforming the selection process for the Song Girls? Just when I thought he couldn't get any creepier ... well played, Mr. Wolf.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
He started criticizing the Song Girls selection process on his blog (basically it had become more about who you knew than how you filled out the sweater) and to prove his point began taking pictures with opposing cheerleaders to wake USC fans out of their cocoon of false confidence (the sort of "we must have the most hotties because we're USC" attitude we've seen with respect to our football talent pool) by illustrating that schools like Oregon and others had gals who were much easier on the eyes.
Obviously the creepy, stalkerish tradition has continued unabated long after the initial point was made.
October 4th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
That, as you describe it, the initial point is just about as creepy as it gets. Much, much shadier than merely "I like to have pictures of myself with hot college girls."
He was on a mission to prove that other cheerleaders were hotter and that USC thus needed to revise its song girl selection process? And he embarked on this quest for justice as a middle-aged man?
I keep telling myself that you're joking when you put this forward as a worthwhile effort ... I'm right, right?
October 4th, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
I may not speak for everyone, but I'm pretty sure the USC Song Girls are an institution enjoyed by most male college football fans across the country. If it takes a creepy, bald, middle-aged man posting pervy pictures on the internet to protect that tradition (a noble tradition of gorgeous girls in short skirts and tight sweaters), then I say "so be it."

I don't think we should be ranked until we prove to the country that we can do better then 1-7 in the Big Ten. Indiana is the same team we beat last year so until proven otherwise I can see why some writers are skeptics still.

I just like the avatar. Please keep posting. Anyone spot Lloyd this weekend?

How the hell could you have an undefeated team with 3 BCS wins (2 on the road) not in your top 25?
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:15 PM ^
Well Northwestern has almost the same situation, just with 2 BCS wins, both of them on the road.
October 3rd, 2010 at 8:44 PM ^
Thanks for clarifying why Northwestern is 25th in the Coaches Poll and although they were left out of the AP Poll, they did receive 25 votes. Apparently some people do think that it's about what a team does on the field. Any other examples?
October 4th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
Yeah, but are any of those 3 BCS teams bowl teams? MAYBE ND, who played nearly half the game without their starting QB. Just because a team plays in a BCS conference doesn't mean they're any good.
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
After 5 weeks of football, there are only 13 FBS teams that remain undefeated. The AP poll has 25 spots. If voting only on this season, and the games played so far this season, you'd think that Chip, John, and Scott could vote Michigan somewhere in the Top 25.

had to make room for powerhouse UCLA.
October 3rd, 2010 at 6:34 PM ^
Criminal record? No wonder he has MSU at #12. What a trick!
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:35 PM ^
Do that and voters will start to rank us. This is both the meat of our schedule and also when we'll get featured on TV nationally. More eyes (voters) will watch our games and take notice.

Another unnecessary thread. This has all been discussed elsehwhere...

Who are Chip Cosby, John Wilner and Scott Wolf?

I've never seen that website before. Thank you--it's really interesting.

This is an amazing resource. It's amazing to scan through that list and see who these people who vote in the AP are. Looking at some of the names, papers and locations makes one wonder what criteria they are selected on.

in the bar after he's had a few and is trying to put the moves on some hottie cheerleader from UCLA.
"But, but, you let me put my arm around you back at the stadium...remember me? I'm Scott the sportswriter. Want to go for a ride in my Hummer?!" (winks while openly leering at her breasts).
"Ewwww, gross, you just spit on me. Fuck off, creep."

having Craig James vote Michigan number 10?
October 3rd, 2010 at 10:03 PM ^
If we win this week, we jump up to at least #13, and then if we beat Iowa, we jump up into the top ten. Let's just forget about the polls for now and focus on these two huge games.
October 4th, 2010 at 8:17 AM ^
And then if we win the next 6 games after that, maybe we'll be number 1!
But let's take this one game at a time.
October 4th, 2010 at 8:16 AM ^
Chip Cosby had us at 17 last week. I know it wasn't pretty, but usually a win doesn't drop you 9 spots. Behind UCLA.
