State jumped us?!
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
They beat a better opponent. It doesn't matter - we'll take them out next week anyway.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
A lot of people were expecting this to happen after their win yesterday.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
If we beat state and some other teams lose we'll probably jump into the top 15. This is the game that shows the haters that Denard is for real.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
Im actually liking this. I'll take the underdog role and glad its in our HOUSE!
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
A 1 spot difference doesn't really make us an underdog. We will probably be favored by a couple points since we are at home.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
It'll be a pick 'em and we will get the standard home give 3. If it is anything other than that I plan on jumping on it.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:50 PM ^
What about this Michigan team makes you think they'll get three anywhere?
These polls don't have much bearing on reality. Basically, teams are going to stay within one or two spots of their previous rank unless they lose or the folks above them lose. Win long enough, and you end up in the top 2 by process of elimination.
LSU is a great example, they have looked awful all season, but stayed static at 12 after Les Miles barely escaped with his head over a Tennessee team that's 2-3.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
Yeah, that's not all that uncommon. In 2003, MSU was ranked ahead of us going into the game for the first time in 35 years yet we were still favored to beat them. And that game was at Spartan Stadium.
For stat lovers: 2008 aside (since we couldn't beat anybody that year) this is the first time since 1968 that MSU will enter the big house as the higher ranked team.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
...surprised that:
State jumped us?!
Seems apropos, no?
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^
Seems appropriate after the NERD MASSACRE. I mean, Michigan is of an academic quality that MSU players obviously would view as nerds.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
Someone could say the sky is blue and everyone on this blog site would argue otherwise. The first observation that jumped out was Michigan State was on top of us leading up to "little brother" week. Obviously they played well vs. Wisconsin but seeing Michigan State on top of us in anything just isn't right. Relax fellas.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
That's perfect. Plays right into our hands. Now if we can just get Vegas to make them a favorite this weekend.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
Ill be in Vegas watching this game.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
you should watch it at the Inn Zone bar off of Rainbow , north of Alta near Summerlin. The bar owner is a big Blue fan and many Blue fans are there with cow bell and Victors singing. I saw yesterday's game there and it was awesome!

Thank you. You saved everyone here from another thread asking where to watch the game. I'm going to be in Vegas as well and was planning on just watching at the Bellagio sports bar, but I might give your place a try.
October 3rd, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
I've lived all over and I would have to agree, this place rules. It definately has the back home bar feeling and hospitality. Screw the casinos, this is the place to watch the Wolverines play. Quite a few of my Bedford buddies who live in Vegas now go every Saturday to watch the games. A must visit.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
Well, yeah, the win over wisconsin is much more impressive than our win against Indiana
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
They beat a highly ranked and regarded team in a fairly convincing fashion
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
You spelled overrated wrong.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
I thought Oregon would jump both Boise St. and OSU for #2. They deserve it much more right now than OSU does.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:20 PM ^
OSU's officials were dominant in that 4th quarter against Illinois
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
Not surprised Oregon jumps BSU. State beat a very good team and looked more impressive then Michigan so im not shocked
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Absolutely perfect. We're an underdog with a chip on our shoulder. MSU deserves it, congrats to them on a great win yesterday. We'll see what happens on Saturday, but one thing's for sure: the rankings will change drastically.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:06 PM ^
Where would the winner jump to? Where would the loser fall to? The winner should be a top 15 team, maybe around 13. The loser could still be ranked around 24-25
October 3rd, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
Heck yeah. Let's tap some of that energy they always seem to have in this game. Those inangible things mean a lot in a rivalry game.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
rankings of 17-18 equate to us being an underdog? That's about as even as it gets if you ask me. With us being at home Vegas will probably give us -3.5 or so.
I wish there were a bigger separation between the two teams to give us more of the underdog label and keep us motivated (not that we need anymore motivation).
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:13 PM ^
Not that we need a weak Sparty effort to win, but any chance they have a letdown after a big win against Wisconsin?
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:21 PM ^
Typically we are their Super Bowl. That likely hasn't changed. They will probably come in with a lot of confidence and emotion and try to win one for the Gipper and all that junk. They will probably be really fired up, and hopefully we have a game plan to take advantage of that. If they come in too wound up then hopefully we can burn them with some plays that use their aggressiveness against them (misdirection, new plays, etc.). I still like our chances, but I expect them to sell out and give us their best shot.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:00 PM ^
They will probably come in with a lot of confidence and emotion and try to win one for the Gipper and all that junk.
Last I checked the Gipper went to Notre Dame...
October 3rd, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Yes, I know. I was using it in the generic sense to describe a team trying to use emotion to rally. Clearly that did not come through. I will try to make future analogies more explicit.
October 3rd, 2010 at 9:24 PM ^
Gipp is a UP hero. I don't mess around with Gipper references.
October 3rd, 2010 at 5:56 PM ^
"They will probably be really fired up"
Yup.
I remember last year they were anticipating the snap count like whoa. I hope we are prepared for that again.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:15 PM ^
screw MSU.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:43 PM ^
On the contrary..... extol the virtues of MSU. Praise their home wins. Compliment them on their high ranking. Speak timidly when speaking of our chances against them. Treadwell is a genius while DanTonyOh is a pillar of strength and character.
(That's tough to type without gagging)
The fact remains that this will be their first road game of the year. And their "signature" win against Wisconsin? Let's just say it's less impressive when you consider that Wisconsin's 4-0 record came against 4 opponents whose combined record after yesterday is 6-13 AND they have a habit of losing their first conference road game under Bielema. To say Wisky was overrated is a huge understatement.
October 3rd, 2010 at 5:44 PM ^
FAU was a road, but yeah, go ahead.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^
Really?
Texas loses 2 in a row, one by blow out to an unranked team.
PSU loses to Bama, ok. to Iowa, ok. but its still 2 loses. Still ranked. PSU is more believable than Texas.

This is still last weeks poll. Epic Fail.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
I'd have Texas above Penn State, but that would be in the 27-35 range, not the top 25.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
This would appear to be last week's poll
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:20 PM ^
Please delete. Thanks Mods!
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:18 PM ^
So Oregon can't even get one 1st place vote for beating Stanford? I mean, even Boise and Ohio State still have a first place vote each.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:30 PM ^
I actually don't mind this. I live in Seattle and am regularly exposed to Oregon fans. I don't like them very much, and will enjoy hearing them bitch and whine.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
please
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:35 PM ^
but how the FUCK is Oregon not ranked higher than OSU? OSU barely beats a trashbag IL team while Oregon dominates a top 10 Stanford team. Are we still counting OSU's win over a very overrated Miami team? I hate polls.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:49 PM ^
My theory would be that OSU beat a supposedly better OU team in the Rose Bowl. Not saying this is right, but there's at least a data point to compare the two teams.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
and this just makes me hate polls more. Last year should have absolutely no bearing on this year's poll, except to the extent we have a preseason poll--which should also be done away with.
October 3rd, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
Their game ended before the voters' bedtimes.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:39 PM ^
Utah sitting at #10. They won at home, in overtime, against a bad Pitt team and that is their signature win. Their other 3 games are New Mexico, UNLV, and San Jose State. With Iowa State, Wyoming, and Colorado State coming up next they will be 7-0 before facing the hardest part of their schedule (@Air Force, TCU, @Notre Dame).
Going to be a really fun conversation this offseason to speculate how they'll do in the Pac10 next year since worst case I see them at 10-2 this year and a top-15 ranking.
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:52 PM ^
At the very least, the Wisconsin win should have put them over Iowa.
