TomVH: Roderick Ryles Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Dr. Phillips safety Roderick Ryles was offered by Michigan. Coach Rod Smith called him and told Ryles that he would've had the offer back in the spring if they had the offers available, but he has an offer now. Ryles was told that the coaches already talked about it and it should be in the mail soon.

Coach Smith told me he wants me to come up for a game, and see what they're all about. I will be coming up for a visit on November 20th for the Wisconsin game.

2012 QB Nick Patti and teammate of Ryles will also be in Ann Arbor for the Wisconsin game. His visit will be an official visit, while Patti's is unofficial since he's still a junior. Roderick is currently committed to Arkansas, but as you can see by these turn of events, things have changed.

But in all honesty I would look around instead of WSU.  The situation there is so bad that it is a lot like EMU is now, basically in no man's land with a very tough road to improvement.  WSU isn't a 4-5 year turn around, it would have to be a very slow build your way back up from the ground.  Maybe they offered playing time right away other FBS teams couldn't offer or something, and if you play in a good conference it is easier for scouts to see how you man up against better players, I just think WSU is a real dead end right now for recruits.

I don't think so. Nothing has changed with Walls. If they didn't have more scholarships to give then that might be the case, but they have enough room for both.

but I think Ryles is more of a Bandit or Spur type and Walls is more of a free safety type (although I think Walls could probably play bandit or even CB too)

Seems like we could take Ryles and Walls.

Didn't qualify- Dorsey, Witty  Transferred- JT and Vlad.  I think we need plenty of DBs especially if they are going to stay with this style of D.  Personally I hope the 3-3-5 is mainly being used because of lack of personel to play a true 4 man front right now.

This makes sense,You know this guy can play and at the end of the year he will have a solid ranking. All your DR.Phillips players are ours.Plus i think the staff does a nice job of finding talent.

I'm pretty sure he DOESN't have a verbal offer.  Kids who get verbal offers from big-time programs at this point in their high school careers are the best of the best.  I'm not sure how I feel about Patti at this point (we've only seen his sophomore film, after all), but I do know that giving him an offer this early would be a pretty big stretch.

We need DBs, safeties and LBs...the more the greater our depth will become.  I hope he scraps AR and goes Blue!!!!  RR has tapped the Dr. Phillips pipeline.

It is about time we got some revenge on the razorbacks for taking DeQuinta Jones last minute. We tried with "Big Tex" last year to no avail hopefully we will be able to take him away this year!

Good news. We need to load up on defensive talent.

More competition, more competition, more competition...

This is nice I guess.  But does anyone else find the timing of this offer a bit convenient considering "The Decision" on Tuesday?  I mean, I'm happy for Ryles and hope that he's a sleeper in this class, but maybe the offer right now is just a bit more than a coincidence.  I'm not sure if this says something about our shaky standing with the current Dr. Phillips stars, or whether this might be running up the score.

Also, does anyone know to what extent Dr. Phillips underclassmen (besides Patti) are viewed as top college prospects?

So what does this mean for Darren Kitchen?  Has the staff just decided to move in a different direction or has he lost interest?

It seems a little strange to basically have a DB locked up and then chase after what seems to be a similar type of kid when the space comes open.  Wouldn't you just offer the kid you know you can get in order to shore up the depth?

I lived in the Orlando area for about 15 years and there are three high scools that stick out ,Apopka, Dr Phillips and Sanford. There are alot of  very good D-1 players that roam the fields on Friday nights.
