For kickoff: jack and dr. pepper
For the rest of the game: some classy natty ice

Ever since a failed tequila v drpepper in my youth, I have removed the doctor from my playbook. Thanks for the reminder that it is still available as a mixer.

Do we really need a thread about what kind of alcohol everybody is drinking on just about every game night?
Speaking of cluttering the board...

Yes yes we do, on another note my homebrewed blonde ale is done and just kegged this morning and should be aged/carbed perfectly for MSU so I have nothing today.

Pumpkin spice latte while studying in the library. They are addicting and I have to get them while I can. I've got some good ole Boston Lager waiting for me when I get home though.
September 30th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
ooh that's a good idea to have a latte with Bailey's while you study. helps take the edge off the anxiety of test prep

Shiner Oktoberfest. It's a marzen style, which means the less sweet oktoberfest than say a Sam Adams. I've also got a Saint Arnold's Divine Reserve #9 left that I'm trying to save until Halloween. It's a 11% Pumpkin Pie Stout. Most excellent.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good pumpkin-type beer. I have had Octoberfest, Oktoberfest, and all other mainstream variations, but I want to try some smaller brewery type stuff. I also want to try and cook with some of it too, so the more pumpkin-y the better. Any good suggestions?
Also, I have been wanting to ask this for a few days but for the sake of the board, I waited until an appropriate thread popped up instead of creating a new one. So, I'm hoping people actually respond, haha.

If you can get a hold of Sam Adams Pumpkin Ale, it's still the only pumpkin ale I've tried worth remembering. It's hard to find as they've only done a few batches ever. I was lucky enough to visit their original brewery (the one they tour in Boston) on a day when they opened a barrel. That was the first one they'd taken out of storage in 9 months.

Hey thanks, I did some research and found this out:
The Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale is being sold as part of the Harvest Collection, Boston Beer’s latest seasonal variety pack, alongside the Boston Lager, Octoberfest, Irish Red, Black Lager and Dunkelweizen. Like the pumpkin beer, the Dunkelweizen is only available in the variety pack.
EDIT: Just as an FYI: this is the first year making it available to the mass public in the variety pack, and they are also considering mass production of it as a stand-alone beer if it gets enough popularity.

The harvest collection is outstanding and their pumpkin ale is pretty good and i hate pumpkin anything for the most part.

I'm currently drinking the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. It's pretty damn good. I also just had the Saranac Pumpkin Ale... also very tasty.
Go Blue!
September 30th, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
Agreed, Dogfish's Punkin is the best pumpkin ale I've had as well.
September 30th, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
Harvest Moon (which you could find at any Kroger or Meijer) is the truest "pumpkin flavor" I've tasted in a beer. However my personal favorite is Ichabod Ale, produced by New Holland. It is a tad spicier, and doesn't quite focus on the pumpkin flavor so much as the general spice/pumpkin combo. It is a little harder to find; if you live in the Ann Arbor area, the best place to go would be Huckleberry's on Washtenaw (near secy of state) but I am sure that Beer Depot would also have it, as well as the party store on Anne.
September 30th, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
I'll definitely try both. The girlfriend wanted to make pumpkin bread with a good "pumpkin-tasting" beer. So I assume that means the more pumpkin-y the better. I don't know. Personally, I like the beer that incorporates more spice into it if I'm just drinking it by itself so I'm looking forward to the Ichabod Ale. Thanks.
