Toledo Blade Article on 2011 commit Jack Miller
Nice article on 2011 verbal committ Jack Miller from Toledo St. Johns. Focus is off-the-field rather than on-field.

What does ESPN say about him?
But seriously, nice article. Very sad about his father, but he seems like a great kid.

They're concerned about his donkey riding abilities.

Why would anyone care if he comes to Michigan, Don't we have enough defensive ends? We have Jibreel Black, Ryan Van Bergen, Craig Roh, Brennen Beyer coming in, do we really need another end?

I'm not sure, but if not, Miller was recruited to play guard. He is averaging 4 pancake blocks a game, and hasn't allowed a sack all year playing OT.
Last week against an OSU DE commit, he more than held his own. Pancaking him twice, not allowing any sacks, and had 3 TFL on D. This kid is NASTY!!!

that's what "/s" means
I was making fun of the retarded Dee Hart? post from earlier;

Now I know what to look for. I apologize

“From a financial standpoint, moving made the most sense. I fought it for a while. Other than my dad being sick, my life was going great at the time. You lose a parent, and then a couple months later you lose your house, your community, your school, your friends and your girlfriend.”
IMO this is why UofM has a football program. Its to give good kids a free college education
I know Football is about winning and losing and everything, but the kids are also being trained to be leaders after football is done
I know without his ability he would most likely not be going to UofM. I know you can't help everyone, but I am glad at least 1 kid with a tough story gets a chance

What a great story. I live in the Toledo area and had not heard much about Jack. Thanks for sharing this OP.

Thanks, again, for posting this.
Makes me feel good about the guys we're recruiting.

1) tony packo's
2) their newspaper is named "the blade"
3) seems to be pretty UM-centric
4) tony packo's

mmmmm Tony Packo's. Is it lunch time yet???
September 30th, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
I have to disagree. The name "The Blade" reminds me too much of what it really is... "The Bland" (other than a few rare gems like this). Also, it is pretty evenly split OSU/Michigan I would say...
Best things about Toledo?
1. Tony Packo's
2. The Mudhens
3. Its not Cleveland
4. Amie's Pizza Factory
5. Close to the border for a quick escape into the northern safe zone
Edit: Saved before writing the other half of my post... DOH! I am from Toledo and went to St. John's and got the pleasure of coming home and watching him and my Titans utterly destroy SFS. I had no idea there was such a story behind him. I look forward to continuing rooting for him in the Maize and Blue!

Toledo has a pretty solid zoo too. Just throwing that out there.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:03 PM ^
Yeah the Toledo Zoo is pretty good. The Lights Before Christmas is always fun too.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Both excellent points. Totally overlooked the zoo and I was even there a few weeks ago!

Also the Art Museum is world class. Yeah, I got artsy on ya. They did have a cool Star Wars Exhibit there in 2002. I mean, if you're into that.

Hence the popular exclamation.

but "Holy Toledo" is generally thought to refer to Toledo, Spain (after which Toledo, Ohio was named).
September 30th, 2010 at 1:43 PM ^
Its the other way around
Toledo Spain named for Toledo Ohio

But Tony Packo's is gone/going out of business. I don't know if they're downtown anymore, but I know their longstanding restaurant on Monroe St. in Sylvania is shuttered. There have been reports about these things in the Blade that tell it better than I could.
Hopefully you can still buy their products in stores. Those were some damn good dogs and chili.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
Actually Packo's is doing fine downtown and the one on the East side ( Mash fame) is still going strong. Not sure what happened in Sylvania. Also The Anderson's store has a great selection of their products in case you need some chili sauce or some hot pickles and peppers.

still open? My family went to Toledo at least twice a year from Ypsi. and we always hit The Spaghetti Warehouse.
September 30th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
Yes, the Spaghetti Warehouse is still open in Toledo.

By the way, I am also an SJJ alum livining in Michigan and like to go back for games (not as often as I want). Did you see any underclassmen football players that looked promising enough for UM to think about?
September 30th, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
but the article mentioned that Jack has a younger brother Matt that is a sophomore.

Jack Miller
September 30th, 2010 at 12:09 PM ^
Miller recently faired really well versus OMG OSU 4* Commit Kenny Hayes, not allowing a sack and several pancake blocks.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Hard not to root for this kid after reading this article. He sounds very mature for his age and like a sure-fire future Michigan Man for sure!

Great read. Thanks for the link. This guy is 6-4, 270, just turned 17, is going to be a monster O lineman and has great character.
Rich Rod is bringing in his fellas and will deliver.
