OT: Reason(s) we hate Pam Ward

Submitted by TheOracle6 on

As we have all heard by now, Pam Ward will be calling the Michigan @ IU game this Saturday on ESPNU.  I can't stand this women for many reasons so I thought it would be fun to see why everyone else also severely dislikes her.

I can't stand her because she totally kills the players names and couldn't diagnose a play if it was right in front of her face.

How about the mgocommunity?

I'm thinking I'm prolly gonna make the 13-hour round trip to see the game in person, just so I don't have to listen to her butcher the game on TV

For years I felt like Pam Ward had no real passion in football announcing and she was just doing it for the paycheck.  I always kind of felt bad though, like I was being too hard on her.  Then when I saw that clip I realized I'd been right all along and gave into my hatred.  I hate her because she is no talent hack that somehow got a gig due to social connections and is blocking some good announcer from getting a job.

I tried finding the video where at the end of a tied basketball game the clock ticks down and Pam Ward says "and this game is OVER...no...I'm sorry, we're going to overtime.  OVERTIME it is!"  What.the.hell.

It's been erased from the internet, apparently.  Not even Awful Announcing has it anymore.  I don't know what happened to it.

I would stream the radio broadcast of the game on my computer, turn up the volume, leave the tv on, and turn down the tv volume. That is all that needs to be done.

I don't understand how she gets away with being a terrible announcer and unattractive....i feel that women have to have at least one of those aspects. in order to get the job ...but she somehow has fooled her employers.

It's a bit offensive, but I like to think that she was more thinking about Touchdown Jesus and just left the Touchdown bit off of it when she said that. Regardless, I have a hard time disliking someone that hosts a nationally televised sports show and signs off shows frequently with "Go Blue."

This is an easy one for me:

She has zero emotion. None. She could just as easily be reading her cable bill as announcing a Michigan touchdown. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it sucks all excitement out of the game (and just plain sucks).

I have absolutely no issue with women calling sports. Even football.  A professional play by play person should be clear, concise, defer properly to the color person, make spot-on observations and pronounce names correctly. Someone who is cool and rational and lets the game unfold with a subtle narrative.  Do those things, and I'll overlook the weirdness, the alien-ness of a woman's voice during an exciting moment when Denard busts a tackle and is in the open field, or when James Rogers steps in and makes a huge pick at a critical part of the game.  Be Brad Nessler with tits, and I'm all for you.

Pam Ward has none of those attributes.  She is a perfect storm of fucked up.

Definitely, I'd be happy with someone like Erin Andrews (even if we didn't see her) because she's enthusiastic and seems to genuinely know her stuff.

Pam Ward reminds me of the substitute announcer from Major League.  "Fly ball...caught.
