Welcome to MGoVacation Comment Count

Tim

As you’ve all been made aware, MGoFounder Brian is on vacation for the next week or so, and has drafted a motley crew of guest posters from Wolverine Liberation Army (whose first offering you’ve already seen), UMHoops, The Blog that Yost Built, and many other fine establishments across the Michigan blogosphere to fill in the gaps while he’s gone. Hopefully, you can find some content that you like, and discover some other blogs you’d like to read regularly.

Just because Brian isn’t in that saddle doesn’t mean that there won’t be plenty to talk about. Yesterday’s Signing Day for the football class of 2009 simply means it’s time to start thinking about the 2010 class, hoops and hockey are both in full swing, and it’s never the wrong time for a communism joke or two.

Stick around, and I hope you can enjoy MGoBlog as much as you would if Brian were still here.

The author’s work can be found on his own site, Varsity Blue, which can be found at www.umvarsityblue.com. Varsity Blue is similar in content to mgoblog, with slightly more focus on football recruiting.

I just think that for those of us who don't read WLA, it was a pretty big shock to the system.

I think Russian rev. jokes suck and was hoping for a more informative update immediately following signing day.

Brian has covered these guys extensively, they haven't played any football since then, they committed yesterday. Even Brian would have been covering basketball, or oversigning elsewhere, or the Milano trial.

Go read the diaries if you want repetitive coverage of the recruits.

Oh, I don't know, how about what the coaches had to say, presser bits, surprises both for Michigan and around the country, etc. Also relevant hoops and/or hockey information would've been much better than a list of communist one-liners.

Oh and save the "read the diaries/board" comments. Thanks.

MSC recaps all you want...

UM Hoops has a PSU preview up. I've heard they may do the post game info here. The site appears to be down right now.
Its back up

YostBuilt has been picking up coverage lately.

Paul at VarsityBlue posted much of this on his twitter feed yesterday, but its all nice and pretty for you now. Tim at VarsityBlue has coverge there for basketball

How much do you really still need to know? I mean they've been profiled on here for months. There are recruiting boards, recruiting posts, TomVH updates, and thousands of threads on mogboard to look at. Its really easy to hop right over to Varsity Blue. Nothing was OMG NEWSWORTHY yesterday that hasn't already been covered by Brian already. And as Tom says below, he's not on vacation. You've got everything you need already.

I think it was appropriate for the WLA to post first. They are much more well known on this site due to their constant posting, so it offers at least a familiar nemesis for many of you. It signals the shakeup (or shift to celebrity posts) quickly and clearly, gets their first post out of the way early in the rotation, and offers a lighter side to all the work several of the other bloggers did yesterday. If anything the WLA should be the ones to post as they worked the least yesterday on recruiting.

How is it a shock? There was a notice that this was coming so the 'shock' thing is weird. But people act like this site is their life. Any change to the site and 'Holy Smokin Hell' their lives are turned upside down. Its a free site about amateur athletics at an academic institution. This isn't completely against you but so many people act as though their house burned down because Brian's gone. What if he just didn't post anything for a week? Would that work better?

We didn't make the posting schedule, so ... yeah.

Expecting us to come up with something informative or remotely serious about the recruiting class is like expecting Rodriguez to run the I-Formation exclusively for the rest of his career. It's not what we do. Any attempt at a legitimately insightful look into the recruiting class would have been pointless, since Brian and VB have already done that and done it much better than we are capable of.

I need a constant updated break-down of physically gifted 18 yr old males without any humor only serious discussion about their physical traits and how potentially amazing they will be in a uniform.

I thought Dex and the boys from Romper Room did a fine job.
Those that didn't, should pull til they hear a pop noise. Then begin to breath slow. Not to fast as you will get giddy on oxygen if not used to it.

Man, I tried to warn them. A couple of months ago I posted, "It is a good thing the LAW has not tried to bring their shtick to MGoBLog. If they did they would be taken care of in no time."

Of course, the inevitable shit storm from the LAW ensued.

So, now the LAW has brought their shtick to MGoBlog and the results speak for themselves.

My only question: Why are they surprised??

You betcha, the LAW posts lots of comments but they have kept away from their shtick in virtually all of those comments.

I may agree or disagree with their comments but they are generally well written and well thought out.

As most have noted, this post was neither well written nor well thought out (IMO) -- it was just shtick.

For those folks that had never visited the WLA site but had only read their posted comments on MGoBLog, I'll bet this was a tad bit unexpected.

Hence, the furor.

Unexpected? Did you miss the post that Brian made saying he was going on vacation and that WLA guys (et al) would be posting? I'd say this was completely expected. Whether you like it or not is another story. Would you rather Brian had left the blog blank for a week? Because in either case, one option remains the same - you spend a week not reading MGoBlog. But you didn't do that. So should probably be mad at Brian for leaving. He has a link to his email, tell him he's an asshole if you'd like, but he made this call.

This reminds me of Joan Rivers guest-hosting the Tonight Show. You can take that to mean whatever you want (though the one clear thing it most certainly means: I is old).

Also, I could have said it reminds me of Paul Schaeffer guest-hosting Letterman's show. That would've been worse for sure, right? It doesn't remind me of that, but Joan Rivers guest-hosting the Tonight Show does. OK, enough of my tortured logic until the next posting.

"This reminds me of Joan Rivers guest-hosting the Tonight Show. You can take that to mean whatever you want (though the one clear thing it most certainly means: I is old)."

That the WLA is comprised of startlingly attractive, post-menopausal women?
