Idiot Michigan Fans Hating Tate

Submitted by UMAmaizinBlue on

I've been sitting in the student section for the past 5 years now, and I've seen many idiotic things done by my fellow students, and I've heard some pretty moronic things as well, but today I was surrounded by the epitome of asinine (Sec. 30, ~Row 23, you know who you are).

For some reason, many of my fellow "Wolverines" felt it was a good idea and maybe even funny to mock and put down our own Tate Forcier, before the game was even underway. Here are a few examples:

  • "F#%& Tate" (in chant form)
  • "Transfer, already!"
  • "Hey, Tate, did you bring your own wings today?"

These continued well into the game, even when Tate drove the length of the field for a TD. Needless to say, it pissed me off to no end, and I was very happy when they left near the end of the 3rd quarter.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be an ass, even if you don't like a particular player. They still play for the Maize and Blue, they're still young (most of them), and they're playing their hearts out to win for YOU! I hope Tate's great play, modesty and positive attitude showed these cretins the error of their ways.

That was obviously the vast minority of the fans.  Every school has morons.  I remember 07 when a few people were chanting for Henne to be benched so Mallett could get in, smh.

The kid took his lumps and emerged on the other side.  He is ready to take control whenever needed.  Fans like that are no fans of Michigan.

If so, then fuck 'em.  Tate got a very nice, and much deserved ovation today.  Four drives resulting in four TD's, and half of the next drive which also went for a TD.  As a fan, I feel MUCH better to have Tate back there with a season of experience under his belt.

The real M fans know it takes a TEAM to have success, and that includes capable backups at every position.  I was very very happy for Tate today, and Devin as well.  Both were very good.  It was an AWESOME day to be a Meeeechigan fan!!!!

There were approximately 20 of them starting these chants and rants, and I was even more disheartened when about a dozen others joined in. I can probably chalk some of the sheep up to drunkeness/being high (lots of bloodshot eyes today), but not the instigators.

Obviously they're a minority in the stands, but it just gives me this sick, uneasy feelings in my stomach to know there are "fans" like that at all.

After Denard got hurt, all the fans around me (Sec. 31, concourse ~Row 75 (presumably freshmen/sophomores) were talking about how they hoped it was Gardner and not Tate coming into replace him.  It seems like EVERYONE forgot about the Notre Dame and Indiana games last year, when Tate was the BMOC and the future of the program, and forgot about him playing through injuries.

I was happy to see him play well today, especially since his experience will be valuable in the Big Ten season to continue to push Denard and Devin and as a replacement or change of pace for the offense if anyone gets nicked up.

Not to put a damper on the ovation for Tate at all, but a lot of people in my section (student section. By the way, is there a student section group for mgobloggers?) were happy to see Devin back in, cheering his name "De-vin" clap-clap-clap Gard-ner". When Tate came in initially I really yelled for him cause of all the "ughs", "Tate?!'s", etc. that I heard around me. Overall though, the crowd was definitely warm for Tate.

it was nice to see the zip tate was putting on his passes.  he threw the slants, screens, and curls with good arm strength.  that is all i have to say.  it was good to see him healthy again.

If you are a student/have sat in the student section lately, but that is giving us WAY too much credit. I'm pretty embarrassed by the general lack of football knowledge in our student section.  Why does every call against us get a "bullshit" or "ref you suck" cheer?

If I'm wrong and Hope's douchiness is the reason for our booing, then I suppose its acceptable.  However, I highly doubt that.

well today was a bad example for ripping on the student's chanting bullshit on penalties. I have no clue what game those refs were looking at today. I have not seen officials this bad since the infamous Alamo bowl fiasco with the sun belt officials.

You have no idea how much it irks me to have the student section do the "key play" thing EVERY THIRD DOWN! When we are up 40 over BGSU, whether or not we stop them isn't a key play. It just makes us look extremely clueless. The whole thinking behind that tradition is to show the student body knows the next play is a big one, not that we can't dintiguish a meaningless third down from and important one.....

If Toledo can beat them, we should be able to beat them. We don't look better by other Big Ten teams winning; we look better by winning. And it's easier to win if they're not good. (We're not exactly at "take on all comers" level yet).

<br>And as others have said- fuck Purdue.

Section 1

Fuck Danny Hope.  There is real, serious bad blood there.  Fuck Purdue.  Let's put it to them, bad, this year.  I was leading the cheers for the Toledo score announcement.  I didn't hear a lot of other cheers, but there were some.  And, I have every reason to suspect that the cheers were coming from that other 2% of the fans who remember the insulting stunt that Danny Hope pulled last year at the end of the game.  Fuck.  Danny.  Hope.

Now back to Tate.

In Section 1, I heard NO boos or negative comments about Tate.  And I heard substantial cheering for Tate.  More than for Devin, which is understandable since Devin had already been in and was widely expected to be going in.

Of course, it might have been a little hard for me to judge, because I was standing and yelling my lungs out for Tate.  Four possessions.  Four touchdowns.  Twelve passes.  Twelve completions.

Are the high? These are kids not paid professionals ! Tate is on the team and he deserves our support.
Really next time you hear that at the house. Please kick them in the balls for me or pay a OSU fan to throw Piss on them please.

Ah, screw 'em.  There are always going to be smart-asses and idiots, and I doubt Tate or anybody attached to the team cares about a couple of loud-mouths in the stands.

I didn't hear a ton of negative comments about Tate, but those that said them around me actually know him in person, so they weren't just random people hating for no reason.

I don't think that many were making negative comments, though. To me it was just a select few who don't like him for non-football reasons.

i was so happy to see Tate have a good game. I do not understand people hating on Tate What did he do? i was worried to see Denard hurt but I was very dissapointed to here some people almost boo Tate. That really bugs me I will cheer all Michigan players, and from what I've read Tate has been a great team player the last 2 weeks. Plus lets not forget he went 12-12 passing. Tate the Great!!!!!!!

They were on Tate's case pretty bad early, but in the fourth quarter they were silent and had towels wrapped around their heads.  They'll probably give it some more thought this week and realize they were being immature and foolish.  Next week they'll hug the people next to them and be good "team fans" again.

All I heard was a lot of cheering when Tate entered the game, and even MORE cheering when he left after leading the team to FOUR TD's.  Very happy for him, and for ALL the other backups who got some PT and made the most of it.

Ray Vinopal's INT happened right in front of me.  Although he fumbled it, the INT was awesome.  He saw the ball and made a very aggressive break on it.  We'll see more of this guy for sure.  He's very small though.

...and besides, students are typically asshats. Let's see them do that in front of his face. Tate was spectacular today. He pulled himself outta the andy gump dog house and proved he stil has the ability to move the football.

He is in a situation where he happens to have two damn good QB's around him. That's a problem I'll always be glad to have.

As a student at this great University in my 6th year and only missing one home game the entire time, I have to say that not all students are asshats, nor are they typically asshats. The majority of us love the atmosphere and the game and all the players. Not mad,  just standing up for my fellow classy students ;)

Pretty shitty. Even worse when alcohol is involved. A lot think the whole production of Michigan Football is put on for their personal entertainment. And causal at best in their knowledge of football or what's going on in the program. Talk to any coaches or players (at just about any program) when they're not in public making statements ("our fans were great today") and they don't do it for the fans; they kinda hold them in disdain and see them as something to put up with.

Idiot behind me kept saying stupid stuff about Tate. I wanted to turn around and set him straight but my fiancee would have killed me. She hates confrontation.

Sucks that you had to listen to it, but I can tell you without hyperbole that the vast majority of the stadium was very vocally supportive of Tate.

He certainly didn't disappoint, either. Beast performance.

One fan screaming about how our kicker sucked after he scribed the second KO apparently not realizing it was planned.  Towards the end of the game one guy was bitching because RR didn't go for the FG on the fourth down when Devin ran it in.  "Doesn't he realize we need the practice!"  I fugured maybe he wanted to send in Hagerup since he hadn't punted all day while we already made eight PATs.
