Does UM have the most exciting offense in the country?

Submitted by Roberto Mancini on

Now, I'm not saying that we have the best overall talent on offense. We don't have a game breaking running back, save denard. Our offensive line, while very good, isn't among the best in the nation, and our recieving core is decent. Even so....

This offense looks very aestethically pleasing. Much more than many other teams in the country. Tactically,on offense, are we the most entertaining side in the country?

I took my Buckeye-loving girlfriend to the UMass game (a hopeless attempt at conversion...) and I made a comment to her that Denard is the most exciting player to watch in college football right now.  I stand by that.  I suppose that would mean the offense as a whole is exciting to watch because he, essentially, creates every play with the help of the rest of the cast... Everyone has to block, but will he beat you on the ground, through the air, or with the THREAT he brings every play?

Martinez has a Denard-esque ability to take it to the house on any given play; I'm not that familiar with the rest of their offense, but having explosvie speed like that in a guy who touches the ball on every play makes an offense exciting IMO.

Taylor Martinez, freshman QB is seventh in the country in rushing yards.

Martinez leads the nation's qualified rushers with an average of 10.5 thanks to touchdown runs of 80, 67 and 46 yards. Helu, an I-Back, at 10.3, is second. Burkhead, another I-Back, at 8.8, is sixth.

Nebraska's average touchdown drive takes just 4.9 plays

Nebraska is #8 in total offense, 513 ypg, #5 in scoring, 47+ ppg

Should be a GREAT game to watch next year in AA.

Denard is terrific, believe me, Nebraska fans will appreciate watching him play in Lincoln in 2012, we know a thing or two about dual threat QB's. Enjoy him!

last year's starter Zac Lee (who had offseason surgery) and everyone else. Much like RR, our coaches wanted a dual threat QB and liked what they saw in Martinez--who wouldn't?

Martinez was in the same hs class as Denard, but a redshirt with zero college playing experience. It was a pretty big surprise that he won the job, we'd never seen him till the spring game.

Wow, wonder if DR will be able to take the pounding, you're using him an awful lot. Nebraska's spreading out the touches more. We're even playing our 2nd string QB for a series or two in the first half.

Unfortunately, no Michigan does not.  There are a few more balanced and powerful offensive teams out there.  Oregon, Alabama, Boise St., Oklahoma St and Stanford are all very strong.

I would say all of those teams, sans okie state,  listed  have better personnel on offense, especially alabama & boise state.

Except, I would say Alabama is more pragmatic, more workman like than Michigan, Oregon && Boise. The best athletes at every position, doesn't neccesarily mean they are the most exciting, tactically entertaining team.

The general consensus seems to be that we have the most exciting colleg football player in the country.   For the first time in my lifetime, I am now reading SEC fans post things like, "I want to try and watch as many Michigan games as I can this year just to see Robinson play".    And "boy, that Robinson sure is fun to watch".     Add in a big play threat in Stonum, a reliable receiver in Roundtree and a back with big play potential in Shaw, and yes, I believe we arguably have the most exciting offense in the country.

I believe that you are simply way off putting Michigan's total offensive package anywhere near that level.  Michigan needs to show a RB threat and a deep threat before we can put our team in the Top 5.

This is all just speculation at this point, of course.  We won't know what Michigan's offense is really capable of until 4 weeks from now when some better measuring sticks have hit the schedule.  But, while I love the Wolverines and think the start is encouraging for the offense, I think we need to keep it real until we face some true top 30 defenses.

it is one of the most difficlut to defend. If you're a defensive coordinator, you probably are only hoping to slow them down. I doubt that any team they play this year will hold them for under 21. That to me is exciting.
