and hit on nearly every play. I know about 1/100th of what the serious guys on this blog know, but if I were any upcoming opposing offensive coordinator, this would be a HUGE part of my gameplan

If Robinson knows the defense well enough to beat out Kovacs, that could give us a real boost in terms of athleticism (and abs) in the defensive backfield. This group of young DB's could become a very good group once they gain a little more experience.

If M Rob and Thomas Gordon are on the field together. They could start tucking their jerseys under their shoulder pads to show them off like Shonte Peoples.

I'm all for anything that helps this team win football games. MRob obviously has been working hard and has cracked the starting line-up. Another off season with Barwis and this kid is going to be all big ten caliber.

I think he should start at the strong safety spot and move Kovacs to the hyprid spot until C. Johnson comes back!

I am stating in my own chat that I. Bell is starting for C. Roh because of a lack of pass rush. Discuss. This guy from nowhere says something stupid and all of a sudden people are running with this as fact from RR?
I thought we evolved past the 1920's where this was believed true....."it's in print it has to be true"

We were discussing why they would do such a thing, and whether or not it would be good. Nobody here is panicking or taking it as holy writ.

I think Kovacs is a serviceable player and has made plenty of plays. However, I think for every big play he makes there are 4 or 5 other plays where he is exposed due to lack of speed (i.e. pursuit angles, not getting to perimeter or not beating blocks).
Hopefully Robinson can help with some of these issues, but he is a freshman!

I'd say that there are usually a few plays per game in which his deficiencies show, but WAY more common is the play where he maintains his assignment, diagnoses the play, and reacts quickly. He's the one guy in the back 7 (8) that I trust to be in the right place at the right time. And I think today's UFR backs me up on that.
Besides, he made, what, 72 tackles last year? If you're suggesting that he screws up 4 to 5 times more often, that would be between 288 and 360 errors last year. Do you think he would have started (and been named a Freshman All-American) if that was the case?

Kovacs is really representative of how far we've fallen talent wise. There's no way he sees the field during the tenures of Bo, Moeller, or Carr. Nothing against the kid but if this were a normal Michigan roster Kovacs would be over at the CCRB this very day...

Yes, the freshman All-American and leading returning tackler on the team is indicative of how far we've fallen. Not the 4 year starter at MLB making the same mistakes still or the patchwork cornerback and safety spots where we have two players who were WR at this point last year starting. Kovacs isn't perfect, but he's a pretty good football player who gets way too much undeserved crap on this site.

Kovacs gets crap essentially because he isn't Te'o. He's obviously limited physically next to high level recruits, but he tackles really well and doesn't get out of position. I think fans are generally more willing to forgive a player that can't get into position properly than a player that is always in position, but can't keep up athletically. There's never a "holy shit awesome" play with those players.

Kovacs has made some flat-out awesome plays against the run. (Witness his destruction of Winston in the backfield on MSU's last play in regulation last year.) He's just not nearly as good in coverage.

In Brian's UFR, he suggests startin Kovacs at Ezeh's spot and bringing in Marvin to fill his old spot. Apparently a 185 lb walk on can do a better job than Ezeh, which if true, lets see it happen.

MRob is listed behind Kovacs according to Rivals so with him and Cam Gordon back at safety there could be some interesting plays back in the secondary that may cause me to punch my sofa. But I'm glad at least one highly touted DB recruit is on the field with what happened with Emilien, Cissoko, and Dorsey. Not to mention Donovan leaving early and Troy getting hurt. But hopefully he makes a positive impact if he does get the start and Go Blue.
