The Fort (Rivals)

Submitted by Meeechigan Dan on

(I misposted this as part of a thread, greatly diminishing my credibility for classifying The Fort posters as idiots. Oh well.)

Well, I have been away a long time. I still read here daily, but had not bothered to figure out the new format, which I used to yell at Brian to implement. I spent some of that commenting energy over in The Fort at Rivals, but that experience has dragged my IQ dozens of points (which I can't spare) and I ran screaming from that forum over the weekend.

What makes that forum so bad?

There is this juvenile allocation of status by number of posts with 20,000+ guys strutting around the forum as if we are unaware that posting "nm" 30 times a day doesn't represent either expertise or authority. In fact, the opposite. Anyone who posts more than an average of twice a day should be regarded with suspicion as they likely lack a life.

Whenever one posts something longer than two sentences, it sits on the board like a lump of undigested meat, clearly too cerebral for a crowd that specializes in updating their signature with the latest hot chicks.

So, I am back. Dex will be unhappy, but at least he can string together two cogent, if depraved, paragraphs.

You'll be unhappy to learn that there has been an influx of Rivals/Scout posters, then.

C'mon Chitown, its not that bad. Dont scare MDan off now that he's decided to come back into the water. MDan, I look forward to your comments, diaries and general diatribes. Welcome back.

Hey man! Hope you're enjoying the summer!!

August 30 is rapidly approaching, and I am already lathered up for the season.

Anyway, I am commenting wherever there's interesting discussion. I think Brian wants to keep most his posts on topic as far as comments go, so basically comment there if its relevant.

But as Chitown noted the Mgoboard and Diaries have become interchangeable as we all learn the ropes on the new site. Diaries are supposed to be like your own way to blog while the board is meant to be 'here's a quick topic' lets discuss ior here's a quick question, anyone got an answer.

Sift through the Diary archive as there is some pretty good stuff. We all look forward to your first diary rant!

Jamie, my tone was non-judgemental. Merely pointing out an observation. As a fellow long-timer here, I'm sure you notice a host of new faces (not that there's anything wrong with that).

For the record, Dan, Diaries and the Board are almost used interchangably, and are difficult to tell apart. If you want to drop knowledge, use a Diary. If you want to open up a topic for discussion, use the board.

i was thinking about subscribing to either scout or rivals. i already have access to The Wolverine magazine and i think its great. in your opinion is rivals worth the $100 a year? and why did you go with rivals over scout?

I have access to both and I feel pretty strongly - despite my earlier comment - that Rivals is the better choice. The data are organized so much better. I don't put much value in the scoop thing - I don't really need to know that a FLA DE commited at 2pm rather than 4pm - and the message board is worthless, except for recruiting messages every once in a while, but overall Rivals is more professional.

I would go with Rivals.

baleedat, here's an interesting comment on Rivals about the visit of superstud Jelani Jenkins, who visited Michigan and MSU (!) over the weekend.  I don't think MSU is in the running here! Maurice is his dad.

"Michigan was impressive, we liked the facilties and the academics. They just built a new facility for academic support and Michigan has a good reputation for academics. And on the football side, they showed us Michigan's defense from last year and how Jelani would fit into it. We were really impressed with the strength program and the trainers, that was one of the most impressive things we saw."

And how was Michigan State?

"They are doing a lot of growing," Maurice said. "They are putting a lot of money into the program and making some major renovations so the dedication is there. We met with coach Gill and the defensive coordinator, coach Pat Narduzzi and were very grateful for the time they spent with us."

at least rivals doesn't have the tin foil hat wearing Tom Beaver groupies. Sorry, i respect the mods at the wolverine a little more than Beaver and his cronies. Rivals' mods have a little thing called journalistic integrity.

Agreed. It's not the site - which I still recommend below - it's the board. They may not wear tinfoil hats, but they are full of the same shit as TBW posters. Site is nicely put together, though, and I still belong.

I try to spend as little time as possible posting on The Fort. What's the point? Typically I just read the updates that Josh and Chris throw out.
