OT : Barkley Admits Taking Cash at Auburn
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/danpatrick/blog/128641/index.html?eref=sihp
So, where do you stand on this: Does Auburn have to vacate all their wins from the early '80s when Barkley played; or, is it "so long ago" it gets a pass.
What if someone from Duke in 1990-1993 admitted it... too long ago? Or because it was a championship it is a bigger deal than Barkley's above-average Auburn squad?
How about 50 years ago.... 5 years ago?

Ah Ha!! I saw the kid from your avatar on a Tosh.0 re-run and could not figure out where I had seen that face before. I lost about 3 minutes of my life trying to figure that one out, and it turns out the answer the same as it is for most questions...mgoblog.

I don't think I care that much anymore. College sports are dirty everywhere. We're lucky that after the NCAA went through our program with a fine tooth comb that was all the found.

I thought there was a statute of limitations in NCAA. I would assume that no one is going to do anything about it. Why punish a team/school that has probably 0 people from the original team/AD still there? It wouldn't do anything other than waste time.

Nah, he played tight end at Auburn

I don't see why the amount of time that has passed should make a difference, especially considering how important the record books are in college and professional sports.
What's the argument as to why it should matter?

the following day?

Does it make it less of an infraction if he received money and lost it all the next day? In other words, can Barkley argue the "mere conduit" defense by explaining that he merely held the funds for less than 24 hours as funneled those funds from the donor to the bookie?

...take away something from him, too. Something that would really hurt, like HIS GOLF CLUBS. PLEASE!!!

Watching Charles with his golf clubs hurts the rest of us.

After reading the title, I thought Matt Barkley took cash while visiting Auburn and was gonna get USC even more punishment.

I think the statute of limitations is four years, or maybe five. So he can come clean and admit that (like most star college athletes, in all likelihood) he got some freebies.

Knowing Charles, the cash was gone that later on an Ataris prop bet.
