Gameday Prep: Is there still construction at Geddes @ US-23?

Submitted by umich1 on

Specifically, will it slow down westbound traffic (all signs point to all frustrations being on the eastbound end of things).

I've searched everywhere - annarbor.com, mdot, etc - no definitive answers.

Thanks for your help.

I think you can exit west to Ann Arbor from the south-bound lane. Northbound traffic can exit East only toward Ypsi. Traffic on Geddes road must enter the freeway. FYI Plymouth road is under massive construction and should be an example of how not to coordinate traffic during such a project. For your sanity, avoid Plymouth.

I would second this, as long as people are aware that there is construction on West Stadium between Seventh St. and Pauline, with all eastbound lanes closed (one westbound lane is open).

Also, Fifth Avenue remains closed downtown between Liberty and William.

Bottom line: Leave early no matter which route you plan to take.

I live there and it's beyond brutal.  I've learned to take a circuitous route down Huron Pkwy and across a bunch of other streets to get downtown but it's a real hassle.  If I have to take Plymouth, I cut across as many parking lots as I can to avoid that horrific traffic situation.

I suggest doing this.

US23 and Plymouth, head east, take Old Earhart or Earhart if you pass (Earhart has a traffic light you can't miss it), TURN RIGHT there.

Turn right on Glazier way, after you cross Huron Pkwy, then you'll end up at Fuller.

I could rant about thhe intelligence of the Washtenaw County Road Commission and their decision to close Geddes road and then cut Plymouth down to 1 lane at the same time (Which, mind you, is the detour route for Geddes), but I'll save that for when I'm so pissed I actually call them and let the man responsible for this idocy have it.

But at any rate, yes, there is still construction there and I highly recommend not using Plymouth. It is a nightmare even on a regular day just trying to commute into school from Ypsilanti, and game day has got to be a disaster. Probably the quietest route you can take into town 9is to hit Carpenter Road which runs parallel to 23, take it north to Washtenaw Ave, and then take Washtenaw into Ann Arbor. A lot of the traffic coming from the south does this, so it WILL be busy, but for UConn it worked a whole lot better than Plymouth would have.

I believe there is still construction at Geddes, but you are still able to exit at Geddes, just cannot get on US-23 S from Geddes. Still it may be a good idea to avoid it. And I believe construction is supposed to end around Halloween.
