Trying not to sound snarky, but I really only care about the poll at the end of the season, not after week two.

Either way, it's good news today.

Totally disagree. To get a higher poll position at the end of the season, you need to enter the poll in week two like we have. It changes the whole perception of the program if we can stay ranked for most of the season. I know after last season opening kind of the same way people are nervous about expectations. and everything, but it should be obvious that this team is a lot better than last year's. I think we legitimately deserve this ranking.

I honestly can't believe WVU is still in the top 25, especially at 21. They looked terrible against Marshall and have no business still being ranked at this time. I know it is week 2, but the mountaineers and the rest of the Big East look really shaky. The ACC also looks very weak this season, and I'll be surprised if either league has any really good teams when the season is said and done.

I care about the polls. Like it or not, being a top 25 team is still a huge deal in terms of perception and coverage. I'm willing to bet it helps in recruiting, too. Michigan isn't winning the National Championship this season, we're probably not winning the Big Ten. But if we can end the season in the top 20, we'll be able to point that as a sign that we're Michigan again.

Just wanted to point out that we have 5 current (and 1 future!) Big Ten teams in the top 25. Sure, it's only week 2, but that's one hell of a hook to hang your Big Ten Pride Hat on, IMO.

Frazer would have to play better for sure.  The key would be UConn's O-line vs. ND's D-line.  The latter held up better against us than I expected.  UConn would play soft/bend-not-break defense and hope for turnovers/mistakes.  ND would have to improve upon their execution of the spread's athletes-in-space philosophy to kill them.

It's tougher for the haters to dismiss Michigan as irrelevant when we're ranked in the Top 25.  Of course, the team's challenge will be to stay there in the coming weeks.

Rankings this early in the season are pretty pointless, but it's hard to find any negative in this.  Go Blue!

Concern trolls are already turning attention to what the team's ranking is/should be/could be. Sad.

This or any other poll matters so little right now. The media narrative will turn on a dime if Denard gets hurt, we have more injuries in the secondary and/or if we lose to either Indiana or MSU and we'll drop out of any poll faster than fast.  Besides any recruit that would pick us over another school just b/c we slid in at #22 this week is probably a recruit that will be headed for the hills the second Barwis gets a hold of him anyway.  In a year or two our placement in the polls might really matter at the end of the season,  but only if we win the B10 championship game.
