weather for the game Saturday; ugh.
(looks like) it 'gon rain, probably - http://bit.ly/awWIeY
September 9th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
Maybe that will be good. I mean we are run oriented and they are pass oriented. Theoretically that helps us.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:38 AM ^
Although a wet sloppy field is not ideal, it will be more of a Hindrance to them, Go Bluuuuue !!!!!
September 9th, 2010 at 11:14 AM ^
But what if Denard loses his shoe to the mud? I'd say that would be a bit of a hindrance.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:34 AM ^
the game. . .
September 9th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
Yes we know. Again, something talked about earlier this week. It's part of the sport. Rain or shine, our boys are going to whoop the shit out of the Domers on Saturday.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
That's not necessarily so bad, rain means less ability for Michael Floyd to tear up our secondary right? This isn't 2008 where Nick Sheridan's QB and we will fumble every snap...
September 9th, 2010 at 11:20 AM ^
True. But on the other wet foot, if M. Floyd stays upright during his routes, it's our DBs that have to react on the wet grass.
Basically, in the WR/DB one-on-one game, the first who slips loses. Howeva! A zone defense can give the DBs a nice advantage in wet conditions.
Zone baby, zone!!!
September 9th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
I know its just semantics, but I am pretty sure Threet played the majority of said 2008 ND-M game.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
Come on...chin up! 40% chance it won't rain!
September 9th, 2010 at 11:10 AM ^
HOLD ON TO THE THE DAMN BALL
September 9th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
It seems like there has been a weather report for this weekends game each day on the board this week.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
I call first dibs on tomorrow's weather update.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
It is still better than it was last week where we must have had a couple of reports daily...finally, there is football to talk about.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
Take the early lead (7-3)
Then lightning.
Win!
September 9th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
Unless we get a repeat of 2008 when a hurricane hit the stadium, I don't think it will be that much of a problem.
September 9th, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
Funny you mention a hurricane...
Most of the rain is the remnants of a tropical system, as noted below.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:34 AM ^
As a weather nerd, it really boils down to timing. It's coming from the remnants of Hermine which is moving into Arkansas/Missouri today. It really depends on 1.) how much will still be in tact and 2.) when it will actually arrive. I've been hearing mixed things but a majority of the reports are saying "late", which could mean late afternoon or late in the evening. It will most likely rain, yes, it just depends on when and how much.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:36 AM ^
If it rains I guess we will see if our ball security has improved from last season. From all indications Denard has decent ball security. I don't know about Shaw or Smith though.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:42 AM ^
Supposedly it was ball security throughout the offseason that has Shaw and Smith seeing playing time. I'm hoping that's the case. Regardless, I don't think it will be as bad as the last time in South Bend. Even if it does downpour, there's no way we have that many turnovers. Right???
September 9th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
Shh...Angry Michigan Possession Hating God will hear you.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:43 AM ^
I can see the rooster tail flying up behind Denard already. Dilithium-powered Miss Budweiser with feet Bring it on.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:40 AM ^
Good to hear that there will be weather on Saturday. I was worried there wouldn't be any.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:40 AM ^
his feet/legs move so fast that he'll just hydroplane over the wet field and will glide in for 6 points every 8 minutes or so.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
Here is the local South Bend NBC TV Station's weather: http://www.wndu.com/weather
They seem to think that rain will hit late Friday night and early Saturday - hoping to get it moved out of town before the game. So, it looks like warmups and tailgating might be wet. On a side note, I've never seen it rain harder and longer than it did 2 years ago in SB. I think it will be mostly dry.
Go Blue!
September 9th, 2010 at 10:51 AM ^
Hurricane Ike made landfall a couple days before and the remnants of it hit the Midwest that weekend.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:01 PM ^
I drove from Lansing straight to Minneapolis and back only stopping for gas and to get my new puppy during that storm. It was 25 hours of white knuckle driving. I promptly watched the DVR of the game when I got home, and was thoroughly disappointed.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:43 AM ^
omg no.....might as well not even turn on the game now
September 9th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
After that, it becomes: how many times will the ball change hands, and through how much rain must it go to get to the exchange point?
QB iso - no other exchanges, no additional moisture accumulates on football.
Long pass to Floyd - ball must cover quite a bit of distance; flight of ball influenced by each raindrop. ball gets slicker with each accumulated drop of rain.
Advantage, us.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
Both teams have to play in the same weather.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:52 AM ^
and on the same long grass
September 9th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
With the rain the punt game is the only thing that scares me about Saturday.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
Will Hagerup's a beast. The kicking game, on the other hand, is horrifying.
But, it's gonna be ok! COME ON SATURDAY.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
Apparently didnt fumble at all for the entire fall camp.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
One of those jinx type stats that come up right before they fumble the ball.
September 9th, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
has never lost two fumbles against Florid . . .
September 9th, 2010 at 10:54 AM ^
Intellicast has conflicting information. One chart says 10% chance of rain Saturday. Then an hourly forecast gives it a 40% chance to rain by 10am (which was increasing since 4am), but that's as far as it goes for now
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Hourly.aspx?chart=Precipitation&locati…
September 9th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
It will hurt us more in their passing game than them. The receivers know where their cuts are going to be....our DB's do not. Slick fields make for a slower reaction to the ball. Just sayin. I'm not happy about it, but either way we win.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
Thats why you go zone in the rain and let receivers concentrating on slippery balls and field conditions get killed a few times by dbs in waiting.
September 9th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
September 9th, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
If they purposely tear up the field that would be irrational because they have to play on the same field. I don't think any amount of practicing would "help" a team on a crappy field.
So much worrysome speculation about weather conditions and whatnot.
Let's enjoy the game!
September 9th, 2010 at 11:20 AM ^
September 9th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
is that it will be harder to HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL. After last week's kick/punt return "issues", and Dileo's holding, this worries me.
Maybe RR will go for it on fourth when he's supposed to.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
I hope the stadium floods...as Denard is the only player who is fast enough to run on top of the water.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
Is there a rule and/or reason why RB's (at least from what I recall) don't wear some of those sleeves that have a tactile feel and would help give them a better grip on the ball in the rain? Gloves are 1 thing but I'd think that if you had something on your forearms it would just help that much more.
Feel free to call me an idiot if people already do this or there's an obvious reason why it's a stupid idea.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
September 9th, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
The rain was pretty good to our offense in 2008, despite getting hamered we ended up out gaining ND if I remember. So I say if we can HOLD ON T O THE DAMN BALL bring on the rain it will help our D.
September 9th, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
and hide your halfbacks, 'cause they rainin' on errbody out there.
