Semi OT- Miami-OSU Upset Game of the Week
Aside from Michigan beating Notre Dame next week, there is little I want more than Miami to beat OSU in their own backyard, as payback for the 2003 BCS NC Game. The Canes see this not just as an opportunity to move up the BCS rankings, but also to erase a bad taste in their mouth. Former players are weighing in http://buzztap.com/link.jsp?id=2199985&cid=320.
"Hurricanes of today have been getting calls, e-mails, text messages, even handwritten notes, of Hurricanes from yesteryear about why Saturday's trip to Ohio State carries a bit more weight than just any other big game."
"All the alumni who comes back to train, they all leave us with that note," Miami cornerback Brandon Harris said. "'Go get 'em for us. We owe them one.' So we feel this game isn't just for us. It's going to be for the fans and the former players who played in that game."
The Pump Up videos are out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MVJCsgnY_M&feature=youtube_gdata_player and the last time a lower ranked Hurricane team (#12) played a higher ranked OSU team (#9), the outcome wasn't pretty for the favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFmNYa8o2xI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I wont say Miami will pull it off but I get the feeling these Canes are playing more for revenge than rankings, and that makes them quite dangerous. Nothing will feel sweeter than going into hostile territory are potentially ruining their national title hopes. This is a game to watch.

I want OSU to be undefeated when we beat them in Nov.

I know your approach is the more sensical one to take and I always tell myself that I should be rooting for the Big 10 and so on...but god, it just feels so good to see them implode in big time games.
September 5th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
I feel you on that, but the blast of schadenfreude would be so huge if we kept them out of the BCS and an undefeated season that it would be worth all the media OSU knob slobbering we'd have to put up with during the season.
September 5th, 2010 at 10:45 PM ^
For "Knob Slobbering."
I'm gonna take any excuse I can get to incorporate that into my daily conversations.

If it's with your boss.

I hate the Buckeyes, but I also hate Miami (YTM) so in this case I have to wish for an OSU victory. I would prefer them fat, overconfident, and undefeated for the Game so that a Michigan victory will have the biggest impact possible.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
I hate Ohio State and Miami too, so I'm cheering for a rouge natural disaster to hit the stadium during the game. A mid-sized meteor, tornado, or plague of locust will do.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^
I can see a meteor being rouge, though I'm not sure I can imagine a tornado or locust plague being that color.

....very clever... :)

It's all in how you accessorize.

How can you hate The U?
September 6th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
Gee, I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that every period of excellence they've had has been followed by NCAA probation? Or the fact that they've embraced their renegade image? Or the fact that their fanbase is not only incredibly fickle (they often don't sell out, even when they're winning) but really obnoxious and sometimes violent? Imagine the Horsehoe if it served alcohol. That's the Orange Bowl.

The Big Ten has gotten a lot of shit lately for its play against major OOC teams. If we (OSU included) keep dropping these games, it hurts every Big Ten team. Plus, we play OSU, so them winning only makes us winning look that much better.
September 6th, 2010 at 1:35 AM ^
If you trade OSU OOC loss with an M OOC victory than we're back at even. Let's do that. I could care less about ONE team (especially THAT team) making the Big 10 look better.
September 5th, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^
... to the one-game wonders at MSU and OSU, whose very existence revolves around beating us.
My rule is root for the Big Ten. Miami? Are you joking? You want the Miami Hurricanes to embarass a major power in the Big Ten?
September 5th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
It's not a one game wonder thing for me. I was raised in Miami and was a Cane fan long before a Wolverine fan. For me, this is an intersection game that goes beyond hating OSU. I am all for the Big Ten, but this is the one exception that happens only so often.
September 5th, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
Let Michigan be the powerhouse of the Big Ten.
I understand rooting for anyone else in the conference, though.

kinda yeah

Grew up in S. Fla as a Wolverines/Canes fan. Thus this is necessary:
GO CANES!!! KICK SOME BUCKEYE ASS!!1!111!!!
Seriously though, Jacory Harris is going to put a whoopin' on them.

Rooting for Miami to win & for TP to throw up more INTs than TDs... dont want him to contend for heisman...
September 5th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
It'll be a good game and Juice Williams showed that OSU is exposed with truly mobile quarterbacks but not entirely sold that the "U" can pull it off.

Juice Williams showed that OSU is exposed with truly mobile quarterbacks
Juice was good for 77 yards passing and 18 yards rushing in a 30-0 shutout at Ohio State last year.
Who knows, due to the Zook effect... but it doesn't seem to me that OSU has any more trouble with mobile QBs than any other random team. It seems odd to point to OSU-Illinois 2008, ignoring OSU-Illinois 2009 and the Rose Bowl, for example.
September 5th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Sure, I'd like to see OSU undefeated right up until we whip their asses for a change this year. I mean, I believe all the kumbaya stuff about being in the Big 10 and "all in this together" stuff.
But, nothing tastes better than Buckeye Tears of Unfathomable Sadness. Twice in a season even more so. It's kinda like a double scoop of your favorite ice cream on a hot day.

Simple pecking order:
1. Michigan
2. Georgia Tech
3. Whoever is playing Ohio State

rooting for big ten. how glorious would it be for us to beat nd, psu to take down bama, and osu to destroy miami in one weekend. with that my friends we would be ranked and the big ten would have earned some major righteousness!!!
September 5th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Honestly, can any of you "root for the Big Ten" guys really cheer for the buck-nuts when you see them in a game? My stomach turns thinking about it.
I really don't give a crap where they are in the rankings when we play them. I'm my perfect world, we'd give them their 12th loss of the year.
September 5th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
I never root for the Bucks.
The only way I would ever root for them is if them winning improved Michigan's chances for the B10 title.
September 6th, 2010 at 1:13 AM ^
if they win, Big10 looks good fwiw
if they lose, mmmmmm sad buckeye tears

My housemate this year grew up in Miami, and this is his first time ever in Michigan (he's a grad student in Aerospace Engineering). We were talking about the game tonight while we were doing some dishes, and when I mentioned OSU's MNC in 2003 he literally stopped washing, set the dish down, let out a huge sigh, and said (and I quote):
"I fucking hate those goddamn Buckeyes!"
Needless to say, we became very good friends after that chat. It's very clear that this is a long awaited revenge game for the Canes and their fans. Personally, I'm still conflicted as who to root for, so I'll just root for a good game to watch.
FWIW, my housemate was at the game on Saturday, and said it was a breathtaking experience, and he would love to get season tickets next year (including learning about hockey while up here). Just give me some time, and we'll have a new rabid-for-Blue fan on our hands!

to have the best record possible when they meet Michigan.
However, they've been crowing so much about their awesome scheduling while Michigan plays UMASS, BGSU, Deleware St....etc (while ignoring ND and ignoring their own baby seal U's). Its become a little intolerable. I would like nothing more than to see their high and mighty scheduling bite them in the rear, and really want nothing positive to happen to them that might actually change the national perception of them.

Whatever helps out UM when it comes to UM is how I look at it. Will an OSU win really out UM? I don't see how it would. Perception of the Big Ten won't suffer, just OSU's image for losing big OOC games. The perception won't necessarily affect Big Ten teams or UM.
Now if OSU plays a team ahead of UM in the rankings (once we're ranked) then I will hope for an OSU victory but I would not cheer for them. No matter what I cannot stand for OSU to win and listen to their insufferable fans. I live in Ohio so I have to deal with them on a daily basis which has been no fun the past 10 years.
