Strtength of 2011 Schedule Based on WLM

Submitted by Enjoy Life on

Using 5 year average WLM as a better indicator of the SHORT term. The total WLM for the new conference is 23.2. Thus an average schedule would be 11.6.

EDIT: I'll do the other conference teams and post that as a diary (probably tomorrow).

10/1 – Minnesota      WLM = -1.8
10/8 – @ Northwestern      WLM = 1.2
10/15 – @ Michigan State      WLM = 0.0
10/22 – BYE
10/29 – Purdue    WLM = -.04
11/5 – @ Iowa     WLM = 3.0
11/12 – @ Illinois    WLM = -3.6
11/19 – Nebraska     WLM = 3.4
11/26 – Ohio State     WLM = 8.8

Total WLM = 10.6

Certainly appears to be a lot better then what people were hoping for.  With the natural progression taking place we could be in position for a BCS game next season!! I'm really excited about what this year has to bring as well!! 3 days til we find out what we're dealing with.  GO BLUE

With Nebraska likely being our toughest competition in our Division and having them (and OSU) at home, we could very likely be playing in the first Big Ten Championship Game.

And that's Badass.

is likely to be lifted some by the new alignment, no? That's a plus for a conference that's struggled, image-wise. On its face the B10 looks stronger to me with these moves--bringing in Nebraska was a great move. Next moves can be taken from a position of greater strength.

We got a very favorable draw for the first two years, which are already setting up to be big years for this team.  And MSU got completely hosed.  I have to hand it Brandon at least a little.  Aside from the opposite divisions, all of this worked out in M's favor imo.
