I tend to side with Tom on this, what are your thoughts? I know this has been discussed. I just want to know the MGoCommunity's opinion.

11. We almost beat Iowa last year, and this year we have them at home for Homecoming.
Apparently Wisconsin is now the scariest team we're playing this year. HOWEVA:

Wow, I look at that list and think: "That's all we need to get to 8 wins?!"
I know the past two seasons have seen us lose to MSU, Illini, and Purdue twice, but we should be able to handle those teams this year.
If we can't then we really do have a long way to go.

I am in with 8. They are in with a bowl with that amount. As bonus, the bowl may not in Michigan. Added bonus: Mouton will be a monster this season.

Would i be out of place if i said that a victory over Ohio State, and 6 Wins in the regular season. Then a bowl game and all would be well?
Edit: Do not take this wrong, i expect 7-8 wins. I am just saying if we did lose a close one or two and beat OSU. That RR would have nothing to worry about.

Big Ten wins count much more this year. Beat up some of the big boys, because, until we do, we're not a big boy in this conference. Like we used to be.
Besides, competing for the Big Ten championship and going to the Rose Bowl are the team goals. Win more Big Ten games than we lose. Maybe then we'll feel like Michigan again.

I agree with you here. I would almost rather loose to UConn or ND, and have a winning record in the Big Ten slate. This would say a lot more.
(I don't want to loose to UConn or ND, because they noise would be so loud it would be distracting.)

We have developing QB's
We have developing RB's
We have developing WR's
We have developing Defense
We are a young team no matter how you twist it. It is unreasonable for anyone to put a number for RR to stay. This is the kind of talk that makes coaches want to quit. It is the kind of talk that makes young players who have lost 2 games early into a season lose hope. We know we are going to have injuries. We still have young players in skill positions. We are going to fumble. The difference is next year. No matter what we do this year. Everyone sees we will have 20+ starters. We will have depth and that is why all this talk of (X) number of games is a dead subject. DB knows it and so does everyone else.
We may or may not get a miracle season this year, but after that we have the makings of a Blue Dynasty again.

I think we would have to have an epic failure of a season for RR to get canned. DB knows football, I think he has a better understanding of what's going on and what needs to happen for success than the average businessman turned AD.
If we regress to a 3-9/4-8 record I think he is definitely looking for some asbestos boxers to protect him from the hot seat. But anything better than that with some good statistical improvements, close or OT losses and I think he gets a 4th year. Everything the national media is saying this year would be applicable prior to the 2011 season.

The only way he gets canned is if we get a huge punishment from the NCAA. Otherwise he gets a fourth year. After that he might need a conference championship to keep his job.

I say we get 8 wins. We get those over UConn, Notre Dame, UMass, Bowling Green, Indiana, Michigan State, Illinois, and Purdue. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see us beat either Penn State or Iowa.

i dont think we're beating ND with the state of our secondary.
Any arguments that our secondary will be passable rely on best-case scenarios all around and if you compare the outlook for the D in the previous seasons to what actually happened, it has fallen below expectations.
Kelly runs 4 a vert-pass spread where recievers all release vertically and read the coverage (1 high or two high safety) to make route adjustments. So unless you think Carvin Johnson, Cam Gordon, Kovacs and whichever two corners we trot out have great zone awareness, then we'll likely get shredded.
A lot of this depends on Christ, but 5-star and all, chances are he's atleast decent and possibly great under BK's tutelage.

I have more faith that our D can be servicable against certain teams other than ND though. With Gerg coaches the LB's we will likely see some improvement there (wishful thinking?) and our D line should be big enough to hold up at the point of attack. Remember teams ran at Craig Roh and SBrown last year and Roh struggled, especially against Wisky, but hes bigger now. I think the front seven will be better, even sans BG.
I like our chances relative to expectations against these teams:
OSU - does Pryor have the accuracy and decision making to exploit us downfield(maybe now that he's an upperclassmen with Tressel's reigns likely loosened)? He didn't really do this last year though.
PSU -same thing. Can their qb exploit our weaknesses, maybe maybe not. We haven't seen them play yet, but the evidence mounting is shaky.
Iowa - Moeaki gone. Bulaga gone. Stanzi throws picks. Mike Williams probably wont ruin that game.
But not these: ND, MSU, Purdue (again i am saying relative to expectations)
If Gerg can manage to align players roles with their strengths, maybe this can work better than expected. This means pulling Kovacs on 2nd and long 3rd and medium-long for MRob or finding a way to drop Carvin into a deep half instead of JK when we need to play Cover 2. Schematically, hiding our guy's weaknesses is definitely not optimal and could limit our unpredicatability.

We're going to lose some agonizingly close games, and lose some key guys to injury. The team will play hard and stick together, and there won't be any finger-pointing or backstabbing. The knives will be out for RR before the end of the season by the usual suspects, but DB will essentially tell them to go fuck themselves.
We will pound the living snot out of some minor team in a minor bowl, a 55-14 sort of beatdown.
2011 we're in the running for a conference championship all season long. 10-2.

I agree. I see a 7-6 season after the loss of Woolfolk. We should win 9 in 2011 and then make a run in 2012 for the B10 title.

while 6 wins would be a bit disappointing, there are scenarios where I would consider it a successful season if 3 of the 4 things below happen (yes if some happened in combination it could be more than a six win season):
1) a throttling of at least one team that we are not expected to beat, i.e. where M starts fast out of the gates and defense keeps it from becoming a shoot out and M is in control the entire game. For example, the Threet win against Wisconsin would not qualify - we were down 17 in the 4th and came back. Closest was the Feagin/Sheridan game against Minnesota in 2008 although to qualify for me would have to be one of the following UCONN, MSU, IOWA, WISC, PSU, ND OSU
2) winning 2 of the following games: MSU, ND, Wisconsin, Iowa, PSU
4) win all of the following games: Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, UCONN (if this happens M is only wins of over BGSU and Baby Seal U redux from bowl elig)
5) beating OSU
