MGoTraffic higher during awesome or horrible times?

Unfortunately for me, I have only known MGoBlog since roughly 2008ish. I've often wondered how fun it would be to have been involved with the blog during truly awesome times.

Actually, i don't even know how far back this blog goes. I've heard references from at least as far back as 2004, so i know it was up and kickin' for the 2006 season.

Assuming going into THE GAME in '06 11-0 was a very high point for this blog (i'd have to assume the greatest ever???), and that the last 2+ years have given us all plenty of low points...

What actually generates more traffic to MGoBlog? INDESCRIBABLE BLISS or INFINITE PAIN??

At first thought i assume BLISS, but then i think of some of the meltdowns i've witnessed (and been a part of)during PAIN lately and man, i'd like to see some stats for the Turner and Twolf fiascos. Basically, does the blog "blow up" more from National Championship-type seasons featuring epic matchups, or, well, 08-09?

I'm not sure if some sort of stats exist for this. Also I'm guessing there's no way you can quantify it because inevitably, good or bad, the blog has certainly grown with time, and continues to grow daily i would think.

Maybe this would be some kind of internet/blog/mob mentality psychological study or something.

For those of you who were here before me, I can only imagine the absolute highs of The New Math; and going into OSU week in '06. I most likely can't even imagine the blog during news of Bo's death and the emotional outpouring that must have taken place. The loss to OSU, and then the next 3 years up til now.

Well, despite my appreciation for the cathartic healing MGoBlog has offered me during the last 2 years of PAIN, I can't wait for BLISS on these here boards so I can experience it first hand for myself. September 4th is so close, yet so far away! Tic, toc, tic, toc...

For those of you thinking... who cares?!?!? Well, i totally don't blame you... I've wondered since the Turner-Gate fiasco went down, and wanted to post it before the season starts and less OT type posts are allowed. Also, as hard as i try, i just can't find a unique way to start another Tate/Denard/Devin, SwitchThisPlayerToDB, or OHMYGODTHESEASONSTARTSSOONIAMSOFREAKINJACKED thread, though i love participating in all of them!

Thanks for any info you have on site statistics and web traffic as affiliated to good times/bad times, and also thanks to anyone who wants to share "favorite" times throughout the history of the most awesome blog we are all so blissfully addicted to.

I don't have stats, but the site has crashed during bad things, like the beginning of the Jihad.  It didn't crash after, say, ND last season when joy was rampant.

I feel like the preseason would for sure have to be the busiest time of year for this blog.

I know I am not alone in checking the blog every 5-10 minutes around this time of year.  The anticipation of the upcoming season and the new developments in the recruiting cycle (visits, etc.) keep Michigan football on my mind 24/7.  Brian does a great job feeding my hunger for all things blue.

As for the slowest time of the year, I would probably say the couple weeks after everyone has read the bowl game recap (Hopefully we get back to the time when there is a bowl game recap) until the couple of weeks leading up to signing day.

Probably a little slow after signing day has come and gone also...

I wasn't a fanatic quite like I am now when we were winning.  I expected 8-10 win seasons.  What brought me here was when Michigan began to struggle.  I started to read more into the inner workings of the team, and about football in general.

The most traffic I've ever seen was during the coaching search. It was tough even to access the site. I think traffic is also higher after a tough loss. It's good to commiserate with other Michigan fans after a setback, but after a victory you can mow the lawn happily or whatever.

The bad times must be extra tough for Brian. All that ad revenue, conflicting with all his emotions.

I contribute about 700 page views on any given day regardless of what's going on, so I don't feel too bad.

Rivals has a junior All-American team up that includes a number of guys Michigan will be recruiting: OH RB Chris Wells, MI LB Brandon Graham, PA S Myron Rolle and KY DE Micah Johnson, plus more we haven't heard about probably. 

One kid on the list, PA DB John Maddux, attends Slocum's school so he probably has heard quite a bit about UM already.

Thanks very much. Just read it and i found it very interesting and informative. I don't recall reading that originally. It would be interesting to see an updated version of all those stats, and if any late content rivals the top 10s. The Great Posbang Thread, or whatever it was called would have to be up there in replies, i should go check that out.

I wonder if Coach Schiano has the "program" and can run it whenever (maybe quarterly?) and update site statistics.

This really isn't typically my type of thing, and i really don't know why, but I'm incredibly intrigued by web traffic and how it correlates to positive/negative times and the constant evolution of this blog.

The comment "thread" (shoutout to Halo Scan) for The Horror numbered well over 1,000 if I recall correctly. The coaching search, as mentioned, was also ridiculous.

Also, regarding the leadup to The Game '06, yes, that was awesome. Not necessarily in a euphoric sense, due to Bo's death, but more in a "wow this is special" sense. That was in no small part thanks to Brian's Eleven Swans post.

Yeah, it's impossible to express to people who found MGo post Blogger how the site was. Game threads were fairly big, but most posts had ~20 comments from the same set of commenters. App State and the coaching search were huge, but those were incredible circumstances and were what necessitated the move here in the first place

Well, you were here the first month of last season, right?  We were 4-0 and ranked in the top 25.  Basically, we've reached a point at which it's a high-traffic site regardless.  The main difference is that the trolls come out in force when things are bad.
