Robert Bolden Starting?

Submitted by rman247 on
On espn's rumor page, they seem to think that Bolden will start for psu at qb. Interesting to see the local Michigan kid might start over Newsome who we all assumed would start.

Newsome supposedly can't throw. Bolden is looking like the start from what I've heard. This is fodder for those who dislike the PSU qb coach, who is of course Jay Paterno.

Poor kid better get a lot of work in against Youngstown State cuz his second game will be on the road against Alabama.

I also heard a rumor regarding Jim Tressel heading back to Youngstown State next season, I got this from a pretty good source, so take it for what it's worth.

That makes sense, but at the same time, hasn't Tate mostly been playing with the 3's and Gardner with the 2's? I just wasn't sure because, although Tate was a servicable starter last year, Gardner has been rumored to have at least as good of a chance to start as Tate does, if not better.

keep in mind that UM had "a three starting qb possibility" going into last year with Sheridan in the mix. i think they're doing a lot to get Gardner motivated but it's definitely Tate/Denard from everything i've heard and that's been put out there. i still wouldn't be surprised if it's Tate... far from it.

Bill King on xm radio did a segment on Penn State today , he (King) also said  Bolden would start with Newsome getting some time as well.

Damn. We'll see how that goes. He wasn't very good against great high school defenses like CC, so i don't know how he's going to be against B10 defenses.

Almost universally people are saying that bolden is the best of the bunch there.  Bolden has talent, to be sure, but he is not ready for primetime yet.

I know Bolden ran a tight (more run oriented) offense at OLSM but he had like a .500 (ish) record.  Not a dominating passer by any means in HS.  Also, wasn't like he was in a passing offense that had to read the defense and audible.  Can't wait for our defense to pick him apart.

right now.  They are UM 2008 this season, minus the attrition/system changes.

Back in 2008 we looked to a good but not great defense to save us from a truly terrible QB situation.  We thought we could pull out 8 wins based on past success but yeah...not so much.  PSU is staring down a similar fate, though I'm willing to give them a few more wins than UM 2008 based on coaching continuity and a defense that should be a bit better than UM 2008.

A bad QB situation is devastating.  We should know more than anyone.
