Countdown to Kickoff - Day 12: J.T. Floyd

Flavor corner highlights. Yum.
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:41 AM ^
Does MGoBlue cover the keyboard damage that ensued from drooling in awe of the cornerbacks? Yes I know it's a two minute clip but any good clip of good coverage is enough to make me optimistic.
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:51 AM ^
Yeah I agree, I would have like a few more minutes watching that. They look good and I'm also optimistic that we will be decent at CB this season.
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:42 AM ^
I really think be will a good lock-down corner for us. That one blitz was great and he seems to be a very positive player too.
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
does good blitzing and a positive attitude = lockdown corner?
:P
edit: in all fairness, yes it was nice to see JT and the freshmen catching up to receivers and using their hands well.
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:44 AM ^
to say the DB's look real good and JT seems like a real smart kid. I hope he has a great year!
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:46 AM ^
Avery did a nice job sticking with Jackson, granted it was Jackson and not Stonum, but he made a nice play on the ball.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:21 AM ^
Ryan Van Bergen could stick with Jeremy Jackson...
August 23rd, 2010 at 8:51 AM ^
Nice to see the defense making some solid plays. Floyd looks excellent. I liked where he diagnosed the rush early and charged right in to make the tackle.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:42 AM ^
Pretty sure that was a designed CB blitz. If our DBs have free reign to read run and leave their coverage responsibilities to the wind ... we might give up some big plays.
Still a couple of nice tackles though, especially on that blitz.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
I believe you're correct. How silly of me.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:04 AM ^
I gotta say I have loved what I have been seeing from all of the countdown videos. I feel like every day, I have a new favorite player. RR seems to be recruiting smart, classy guys, and hopefully they prove to be an equally talented squad on the field...which I believe they will. Anyone complaining about the "lack of a family environment" at UM need only look as far as the countdown vids. Every single one has included continual shout outs to teammates. Totally excited about this team.

With all the anguish around here recently, I think we forgot that we have some talent at corner. As star-gazers, we are always looking for the 5-star corner, but those are rare, more than we need THIS year and don't always live up to the hype.
Meanwhile, I believe JT Floyd was committed to Tennessee prior to coming to Michigan (was he a Kiffin recruit?) Also, James Rogers played some corner his freshman year and is an experienced player. Finally, Avery and Cullen are both naturally talented, but young. As long as these guys are "coached up" (did Gibson turn Mundy around?), then we will be able to stop people through the air.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:23 AM ^
I believe Bruce Tall was the safeties coach when Mundy was there, but someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...
Regardless, Adam Brathwaite is the safeties coach now. It's not clear by your post whether you were aware of that or not.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^
...throwing that pass at 1:48??? Right to the defense! Oops!
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:12 AM ^
....was that planned?
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
Hopefully he was just trying to help our young secondary get a little more confident.
August 23rd, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Unless that was a busted route, that was one gawd awful throw. I watched it several times and apparently DR just threw to a spot without ever looking. Yikes.
August 23rd, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
it doesn't look like any opposing player will be able to out run Denard for a pick six.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 AM ^
Best interview editing yet! I enjoyed this video because J.T handled himself very well, I can see him in front of a microphone when his playing days are over.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:34 AM ^
I wasn't a big fan of JT Floyd last year, but he is growing on me. Seems like a good guy.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:39 AM ^
finally some db time! Good see them making big strides out there! Great to see how well JT handles himself on and off the field. Seems quicker, and real confident!
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:41 AM ^
I was going to make a Board post about Floyd, good thing I checked for this first.
Among what others have said, this video made me realize 2 things
1) I really like JT Floyd, and hope he has a stellar year not just for selfish reasons or just for The Team, but because he seems like a great guy who deserves to do well
2) the DBs look good. I mean really good. I am reassured even with that small clip. Him describing another corner as "so fast" and calling him "The Jet," and saying they are all working really hard. He addressed their youth, yet assured that they are working extremely hard. That makes me more than just a little relieved, though I know it must be proven on the field.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:45 AM ^
Seems like the DB's are actually able to stick with our WR's. Good to see, as long as we just don't give up the 3rd and long's all season long we will be ok.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:25 AM ^
Do you think a video about Michigan's cornerbacks and produced by MGoBlue.com would show our cornerbacks getting torched?
August 23rd, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
It's a good thing you're on here to burst our collective bubbles.
August 23rd, 2010 at 1:59 PM ^
there is some footage of our CB's playing well for the editors to work with.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
JT just became my new fav amongst the defensive players, a real class act and that goes for everyone that we've seen in the countdown videos. After all the knocks RR has taken since he came up here im glad to see that he's still recruiting and producing respectful classy players. HAIL!!
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:36 AM ^
Anyone else notice when he said Cullen's nickname is "Cuddly Christian?" Haha. Awesome.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:41 AM ^
even though its an edited video, its nice to visually see with my own eyes our young defensive backs making plays.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
Perfect timing. There are 12 days until the UConn Game and Jt Floyd is number 12
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:06 AM ^
The secondary lacks experience, but isn't short on talent and ability. I'm not sure we have any future 1st round NFL CB's, but I'll take 4 or 5 solid kids who can cover and tackle, and I think Avery, CC and Talbott look very impressive for true freshman. As for Floyd, I think many Michigan fans have sold this kid way short with regard to his ability. He'll never be an elite athlete with track speed, but he'll work his ass off to be one of the best corners in the Big Ten the next 3 years.
August 23rd, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
His technique looks to be much improved from last year. Cautiously optimistic...
August 23rd, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
Lining up against Stonum everyday in practice will help push JT and make him a better cover corner! Does anyone know whos gonna be the other safiety starting with Cam Gordon, I hope its Vlad Emilien over Jordan Kovacs!
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
Of those three, Kovacs is the only proven commodity. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts but other guys get plenty of time. We should be able to prevent more 3rd down conversions and 2nd half losses if our guys are rotating in and out.
August 23rd, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
Love his humble swag
August 25th, 2010 at 1:30 PM ^
Would have been great to see JT running stride for stride with one of our wideouts. How much can you improve your speed in the off-season?
