NOT GOODBYE?: Austin White

Submitted by LumberJack on

C'mon mods.  If you're going to delete a thread that long (and one of such importance, no less), at least provide an explanation.

I mean, after you (mods) talk about vetting posts and finally allowing a post about White's rumored departure, the least you could do is say something about the validity of the information you "allowed" to be posted.

So what happened?

From what I can gather, there was a thread suggesting that Austin White is transferring and it got deleted.  Is that about right?

Is there any actual info supporting White's leaving (assuming that is what the issue is)?

It was lifted because it got filled with idiots talking about "lazy pricks" and other mlive-worthy nuggets. There is a sticky that says this. It is linked on the main page. You can visit links by clicking on them, which you do with your finger.

FWIW, Webb said he might be trying to get back on the team.

First thing I did was check the Mod sticky thread.  I'm assuming this is the thread in question:

Put a thread on ice because it was getting pretty nasty toward a kid based on a semi-credible rumor. If the rumor turns out to be true, fair game. For now, no.

I was just wondering what the rumor was.  But it sounds like it was pulled for good reason, so fair enough.

Things are getting so bad. It seems like for the last 3 seasons. Before 08' it was Mallett and Boren. Before 09' it was the FREEP jihad. Now it's 10' and our corner situation is terrible and now Austin White is transferring? I'm all in for RR but how can we succeed with so much hell? Can someone else give me a pick me up about how great this season is going to be?

Seriously, so we've got a thin secondary. FRs have stepped up before. QBs RBs WRs OL DL? Can't wait to see them on the field. Shit will be shredded. Yes, LBs underperformed last year. They're learning under GERGs wing and if you look out the window the sky is not falling. The possibility of a true frosh RB (where we are stacked deep) transferring does not mean much of anything. I recommend some pain killing medications and perspective for the next 15 days and be ready to rage blue on Sep 4.

It's just a slight nudge in the balls.

Y'all don't realize
how sensitive nuts are, do you?

Men don't like to hear a threat like that.
You hear somebody:

"I'll kick you in the nuts."
It make you wince, be like:

"Change the subject, please."

You don't have to kick
no nuts to hurt nobody.

You could just graze nuts.

And the man would be fucked up.

And that pain is worse, because
it don't set in for, like, ten seconds.

You be wondering if it's gonna hurt.

You say, "I wonder,
did that hit my nuts, just...?"

You don't have to kick.
You could just graze it.

It seems as though Rodriguez needs his athletes to be at the height of their physical capabilities.  This is a fast offense (and hopefully defense) that requires maximum conditioning.  It would appear to me that not everyone on the team is prepared to do what it takes to be the type of player needed for this system.  If you are not physically or mentally tough enough to survive in a condtioning heavy environment it makes sense that you would not want to be part of said team.  I hate to beat the "those who stay will be champions" to death, but it rings true with what seems to be happening here.  I for one am all for ridding the team of dead weight.  If a player is not up to the challenge then we should not dismay because it is likely that said player was not going to give their best effort no matter the situation.

that when a thread is deleted, there is a summary of the facts (not opinions) and a message that the thread was deleted (just so we know what's going on)?

It causes panic to people who happen to miss what's going on in real-time and explains the residual piecemeal information on other threads.

If this is true it would be the LEAST problematic transfer of RR's tenure. Obviously not good, but after what has happened thus far it could be much worse.  But is the rumor that he's transferring to MSU? Cause that would LOOK bad, and I know his brother went/goes(?) there.

If this is true and White transfers...

I mean here's the bottom line with it.

There are at least 3 people ahead of him on the depth chart so it probably, realistically, would not effect us on the field.  (this year)

But, on the other hand, it would be yet another bad thing in an eternally long sequence of bad things that just, no matter what, finds a way to keep on perpetuating, even when it appears there's a glimmer of hope that things may turn around and start going right.

At this point, a very real concern I'm starting to have is where's the breaking point where the whole thing just completely implodes, from the cumulative effect of all this?

I feel like we're eerily close to it and that really concerns me.

This has probably been covered, but on the BTN Michigan coverage, he was the only other guy that I spotted at that practice (aside from Tate) who was de-winged. (Didn't look bad in the clips they showed, either, IMO.)

If the de-winging is going to be used to single out just a couple of guys (assuming Turner would have been the 3rd...), I am resolutely opposed. I get the need for motivational tactics, and I think it could be a good one - but don't use it to put guys down.

Maybe do it to all incoming freshmen and a handful of other guys (at least 5 or so) such that those that have it aren't getting singled out. When motivational tactics turn into demotivation and transfers, something is wrong. Nice idea, but let's try another iteration...

Why change the program to keep an incompatible part? If someone is this shaken up about paint on their helmet, what's going to happen when a ref flags him for a undeserved penalty? or he misses a tackle that leads to a game winning touchdown for the other team? or he turns the ball over on the last drive?

Overcoming adversity is key to life and especially to big ten football. If someone cannot over come the lack of maize on his helmet, what does that say about the player in question?
