Morgan Trent Heads to the Senior Bowl

Submitted by jokenjin on
For all those interested - Morgan Trent is headed to the Senior Bowl. I'm happy for him. I didn't watch it, but apparently he played decently at the East West Shrine Game and had a key interception that led to a field goal. http://mgoblue.com/football/article.aspx?id=162612 Good luck to him and Tim Jamison. GO BLUE!

He will probably be highest UM player drafted this year. Jamison (who I think is also going to Senior B) and TT are the only other players likely to be drafted and they look like mid to low round choices. MT cold go in the 2nd but more likely the 3rd. So much for how talented UM is. UM talent level is down across the board. The '09 and '10 NFL drafts will underscore this fact. Good luck to MT and the rest!!

struggled his sr. year, he had an excellent jr year, and all in all was a decent player at UM. Hopefully he can get on with a good NFL team. Good luck to him. He did look good in the Shrine game, he read the route well on his INT.

Am i the only one who always thought that trent was a big piece of poo. If i was a reciever, I wood want to be covered by trent. Despite the fact that hes the fastest kid on the team, trent gives his recievers 10 yards of cushion at all times, b/c hes afraid of getting burned. Iv never seen a corner give up so many 8-10 yard uncontested completions in my entire life. Thats real terrific for trying to stop a 3rd and 8. Hes also an extremely unreliable tackler, much like the rest of our defense. I cant for the life of me figur out y anyone wood think that he is a good cornerback. If i were a db's coach, i wood convert trent to safety, that way he can keep the plays in front of him and give his cusion, without leaving a reciever wide open.

I would agree with you about moving him to safety, although I'm not sure we have the same reasons. If he is indeed a horrible tackler (as you say), then I'd hate to be the team you coach and play him at free safety. Other than the position, I think I disagree with just about everything else you said.

Good at blowing up long handoffs and decent in run support. Can get to where he is going in a straight line quickly. Has good closing speed but does not have those "fluid hips" that the gurus often drool over which allows a corner to turn with the receiver quickly. That is why he has to give a huge cushion and not good at bump and run coverage. Agree that he showed decent field awareness his junior year but no so much his senior year. Some of that may have been due to a downgrade in talent at the safety position.

Does anybody think that things would've been different for Trent if he were to have remained at WR, or, instead of moving to CB, he moved to safety?

It's tough to say. We could have had some serious speed on the outside with Manningham and Trent at the wide receiver positions. We probably would have just run double-go routes and had Henne throw it as far as he could...on every play. In retrospect, it's interesting to think about "what might have been" if a guy played a different position. I'm not talking about stuff like "We would have won X number of games more/less if Player X played a different position." But what would our team look like if Brandon Graham remained a middle linebacker? What could Carlos Brown do as a cornerback? What if Tacopants played guard?

but look at how Breaston shook things up in the NFL. He's now a developing deep threat who put up 1,000 yards. Pretty good for someone basically drafted to be a return specialist. Good luck Morgan and all of the rest of the 2009 class. Shock the world lol.

why a lot of people here seem to want him to fail. He is representing our school. So he fell short of a lot of people's expectations during his time here-who fucking cares? I hope he becomes a Pro Bowler and wins so many goddamn SB rings that he can't lift his hands.
