Am I Really Better Than an Alabama Fan?

Submitted by Marvin on

On Saturday, Michigan's football season will start the Saturday after the next one. I think it will be hard for me to get through Thursday and Friday of that first week. It's also hard to get through the days leading up to Thursday and Friday.

The other day in response to the film "Nick Saban: Gamechanger," someone on this site wondered whether Alabama fans really have anything better to do in their lives but watch Alabama football. "True enough," I thought. "They have no pro teams down there. Poor Alabamians."

But then I paused a little, because I sort of obsess about Michigan football every day, and worry that if we have a bad season  my quality of life will be diminished significantly. I think if we have a great season, I'll want to beatify Rich Rod, much like Alabama fans reverence Nick Saban. I also look forward to Michigan games just about as much as I look forward to anything (at least on tv). So in a way, I don't have anything in my life MORE exciting than Michigan football either. I like MGOBLOG, but I think that's also Michigan football.

Wait -- I have a large tomato gard. .  nah.

So how am I better than an Alabama fan?

Let me put it to you this way....you have never gone into Michigan Stadium with a toilet plunger with a roll of toilet paper and a box of detergent attached to it. (Roll Tide, get it?) I have observed this in Bryant Denny Stadium.

God, I miss Ann Arbor.

The "us" and "them" debate is pretty absurd. You're probably "better" than some Alabama fans and "worse" than others. I'm not sure of the definitions of either "better" or "worse," but that's probably part of this whole excercise, no?

Tell me if this is a correct spelling for a state:

Mississipi

Depending on your answer to this question, you are not just better than Alabama fans, you are better than the entire athletic department.
