Every time I see one of these videos I breathe a little easier. I'm assuming UConn is better than they were at the time(?), but I could see us making a lot of those type of plays.

Unless I'm seeing it wrong in the last read play they showed, it appeared White misread the crashing DE and handed off the football instead of taking it himself. It still resulted in a TD though.

DR really didn't do anything singularly impressive on that drive; he just kept converting and moving the chains. If you're successful in creating gaps at the LOS, he's got at least 5 yards every time.

It was still a very solid drive under pressure (4 minutes left in the 4th) against an Orange Bowl champion defense.

is all of the runs(except for the scramble from the rollout play) are QB power to the off-tackle. He basically outathleted Iowa defense despite the fact that Iowa knows that he's going to run the ball especially when Kevin Grady is on the field next to him as a blocking FB. He still averaged over 5 yards a carry which is impressive all by itself.
The scramble is equally ridiculous because he split the defense with his burst and speed. He did a good job of not forcing the throws and use his legs to get the 1st down.

Man is that encouraging to watch, even knowing what unfolds in the final drive. Just a great athlete, completely raw as a qb going out there against a good defense and running right through it.
Should any of the progress shown in the spring game and in practice clips* translate to the field, he is going to be very very hard to stop.
*not solely denard's, but the o-line and the reports of Stonum having an excellent camp.

I'd forgotten about Denard's determination to gain yards after contact. With his added size, strength and experience he will hold on to the ball and break more tackles. In the immortal words of Flounder, "Oh, boy is this great!". Go Denard Go

the only thing I would be skeptical about there is that we never had a play on that drive that was 3-4 yard loss which yes is good but this will undoubtedly happen at times in the game. That is where Denard needs to prove he can get it done....can he pick up 3rd and 7s/8s/9s through the air. You're not going to be able to tuck it and run in that situation very often. Still, like I said, very encouraging, as we all know, that Iowa defense was no slouch.

It was nice to see how much space opened up when he actually stood in the pocket for that 1 play.. Hopefully he will be able to do that everytime this year. Only thing i would worry about then is how gassed he looked during this 1 drive

once he learns to use the whole field to run and try not to tun through tackles. Many plays Pat White was never even touched because he learned to hide behind blockers and let his speed and elusiveness do the rest. Once Denard masters this, watch out.

White injured his hand, WVU didn't play well to boot, and they lost to Pitt 13-9, at home. If WVU beats Pitt, they go to the NC game instead of LSU, RR stays at WVU, and Michigan hires somebody else, maybe The Hat. Funny how things work out.

He may look a little slower, but White looks so much more comfortable and fluid running that offense. At times it looked like DRob was too fast and got to the defenders too fast to make a cut or cause them to miss a tackle. Hopefully with the strides he's made in the summer/spring Denard will be able to approach that comfort level.

Give Denard time running this offense and then things will slow down for him. Once he has a couple of years running it - like White had before those highlights - he will look comfortable and still have the speed. Just think of how he will be able to use his speed to set defenders up to look silly as he strolls downs the field.

That's my hope, I wasn't expecting him to have the same comfort as White at this point. One of the things that made White so great though was his ability to read the field and find those open areas to run to, lets hope Denard can match that.

Because after Pat White they had... well... um... yea. They had what we saw in the Pitt game: a whole lotta nothin.
IF Robinson was to be the starting QB getting most of the snaps and IF he was to be tearing up the league and IF he was to at some point injure his hand.... we have Tate (who IF he has lost the starting position, would be a backup with major game experience) and Gardner, who is raw but very talented.
This is what I like about RRs recruiting strategy vs. Carr's... It has been since 1999 since I have felt that we have had two QBs that we could possibly win with. Next year we will have 3 (presuming, of course, that they all develop in their abilities accordingly).

That's why I was so excited when we hired Rich Rod. Big Least, blah blah blah. WVU was a team that I would stop to watch.
