Confirmation from Butch
“I’m only listening to what the coaches told me, but they said it happened during a tackle. His foot got stuck in the turf and his ankle just turned,” Butch Woolfolk said from Sugar Land, Texas, where he lives and where Troy grew up. “It was dislocated and when they put it back in the socket, they did an X-ray and found out about the ligament (damage) and the bone broke.”
As for surgery, that’s a decision that may be days away.
“They don’t know yet, they’ll wait until the swelling goes down,” said Butch, a former U-M tailback, who plans to come to Michigan as soon as he can.
“I’ve spoken to him,” Butch said, adding that Troy is on medicine to mask the leg pain but is emotionally devastated. “Yeah, he’s pretty crushed. The strange thing is he decided not to work (at a job) in the off-season so he could just workout, and he said he’s in the best shape of his life. He called me everyday after practice and said he was at the top of his game. And I heard the same thing from the coaches. He was ready.”

I'm really sad for him. I, like many others here was expecting a big year out of Troy. It is tough to see it happen to him after hearing about some of the players not putting in 100%. Hopefully we will see a full recovery and have him back 100% in 2011 with an even deeper secondary. Go Blue Troy!

he has gotten dong kicked so many times that he can't feel it anymore. That's exactly how I (we?) feel. We need to TAKE IT LIKE that guy does, and after this many dong punches, we are going to start to lose the feeling of pain from them.
What this means for the team? Send as many dong punches our way as you please, we will just stand there and not break a sweat. Then, we come kick some ass on the field! Go Blue!

Gosh I feel bad for him. He's a model for what a college student-athlete should be, both on and off the field. It sucks for us fans because we want to see our team win a lot of games. It sucks infinitely worse for him. Get healthy Troy. Get healthy and come back next year to lead this team to glory.

just so so sad to see a guy who worked so hard to turn that secondary into the best it could be to have something happen during practice. My sincere condolances Troy, believe me when I say we all know just what a tremendous effort you put towards this team and you're everything a Wolverine should be. I wish we could use the #1 jersey for a corner.....well I guess new traditions are being made. Should it be the member of the team who best shows what it takes to be the leader and best?

I really think if we can put a lot of pressure on the QB, then our secondary will make a lot of plays with all the talent they have. They just don't have a lot of experience.

You gotta feel for a kid like that. He worked his ass off in order to get this team somewhere this year defensively, and misfortune smiles (or frowns...?) upon him. I'm holding a candlelight vigil in my head for your ankle, Troy.

couldn't happen to a more prepared player. I just got done earlier today reading a UofM preseason article and Woolfork was mentioned in it a few times....as well as a quote from him. He was going to be the leader for our D this season.....i know this sucks and I can't really find a positive to the whole situation besides this- maybe we can rally our D now around Woolfork and someone can step up and fill in his shoes as best as they can. I am hoping now for a freshman phenom to emerge at defensive back...and a 9-3 season.

i doubt it they would go that drastic. butch said it happened while changing directions. something like this could happen in a non contact conditioning drill and is just an unfortunate freak accident.

Damn, that's painful to read. Forget the performance on the field...you just feel bad for him as a person...
Hopefully he plays an Eric Mayes role this year, and helps motivate and educate the younger players and heals up for a kickass RS Senior year in 2011.

and thought what can I add but a few more four-letter words? And then after reading what Butch said, the first response had the same three-letter word that was the only thing I could think of: Sad. So, so, sad. Can't imagine how this must be affecting the rest of the team. Hope Troy can rely on his great sense of humor to pull him through this and turn into a great cheerleader and junior coach for the rest of the guys, if it doesn't hurt too much to be watching from the sidelines.

I feel vindicated. But more important, amazed he could say something like that so soon after tearing his leg apart. Sorry for what happened, but so impressed by his handling of it. Love the guy. I agree with you guys. Here I was feeling bad for myself because of the unproven back-ups. Meanwhile, this kid poured his heart into this team all summer while I drank beers.
For some reason, however the team finishes this year, I am going to be proud of the team -- the kids who gave it their all.

Troy seems like the kind of guy who in a few days will rally the troops. He's obviously worked his @ss off and now all he's going to be able to do is motivate the rest of the guys. Hopefully the team picks it up and doesn't start feeling sorry...and wonder when this is going to end (that's for us!).

... It appers as though Stafon Johnson has just suffered the exact same injury (Broken Fibula and dislocated ankle) as T-Wolf and according to ESPN will be out 12 weeks. I was thinking this was a typo and they meant 12 monthes. I am no doctor so I have no real insight on recovery time but could a real doctor come in here and give me some mgohope?
