makes the game seem so... empty. A sort of peaceful, blissful, emptiness that makes the game so much better. Also, I do love that there are no commericials in the middle of the game. SO nice.
The game has seemed pretty entertaining so far. The USA didn't let in an early goal, which is nice! 0-0 in the 23rd minute. USA! USA!
Also, is there a new USA coach yet, or is it still Bob Bradley or did BB get an extension? I know Brazil fired their coach...

I know Brazil is a world power, but this is basically their B team and they are just running roughshod against the US defense. I hope that Bradley shakes up the lineup a bit at halftime (maybe move Altidore to the lineup).

I noticed a couple of names being new, but something like 14 of the 34 players on Brazil today are receiving their first international cap. I guess I am just trying to figure out how Brazil can look this much better.

Nope. Julio Cesar is considered maybe the best keeper in the world and Gomes isn't far behind. Neither played today.

At this point, the biggest thing separating the US from the second-level powers is depth. We have a number of world-class players (not superstars, but guys that don't look horribly out of place on the international stage); the problem is if one gets injured or suspended, there's an enormous dropoff to the next guy (except possibly in goal). The European powerhouses can field a "B" team that wouldn't get embarrassed in international play. Brazil could probably field a "C" team that would at least put up a little bit of a fight. Even Mexico's "B" team is passable. Our "B" team is barely even good enough to compete in CONCACAF (we got blown out by Mexico's "B" team in the Gold Cup final in '09).
To seriously think about winning a World Cup, we need more top-end talent. But a little added depth (say, a second striker who's something other than completely useless) may well have seen us in the semifinals this year before getting slapped around by the Dutch and Germans.

But we also play games on some none FIFA dates with a mainly MLS team. Usually with countries that run a similar schedule to the MLS.

....like the proposed upcoming US - Poland and US - Columbia friendlies. But notice, those are proposed during the 9 - 13 Oct Official Competition period. Since the US isn't participating in any during that period, they can schedule friendlies. Friendlies aren't scheduled during other periods to minimize the effect of international play on the various domestic leagues and national federation cup tournaments.

Been neglecting my investigation of random world powers since the WC. Any word on how Brazil looked post-Dunga? I don't even know who is replacement is (if they've found one), but I'm curious if there has been any obvious attempt to move away from the Dunga style of soccer that was so hated.
