My 2010 football season predictions

Submitted by KBLOW on

What I think I'll be drinking during the season.

UConn: a real dry pale ale. Probably Caldera.

ND: Gin and Tonics

UMass: 9am on the west coast? Start with Bloody Mary's and then anything goes.

BGSU: A couple of growlers of something really, really hoppy.

Indiana: Kind of a bye week. My buddy is bringing his vaporizer.

MSU: Special order a case of Bell's Two Hearted

Iowa: Bourbon and more bourbon

PSU: Oct 30th in Portland? Gonna be Stout weather.

Illinois: Imperial IPA's. A lot of them.

Purdue: Boilermakers

Wisconsin: Margaritas and cheap beer.

Ohio State: One of all the above!

I'm going to disagree with you on UMass.  It's not going to be a pretty carefree game, so I'd start with some leftover Oberon with some whiskey on hand for any injuries.

Oregon has many, many fine beers.  I wholeheartedly agree with you on that point.

However, I'd also want to play SDSU, in that case.  I've been in southern California for the last six years, and I would hate to ever move, if only for the fact that I'd be moving away from some of the best breweries in the world (especially if you like IPAs).  San Diego is my new Mecca.

Not to bring down the party, but IMHO mocking other people's season predictions is getting about as old as the predictions themselves.

You gotta try the Dogfish Head 60- or 90-minute IIPA. They're brewed in DE, so I don't know if you can get them in MI, but they're the one of the best things to come out of DE (better than their football team anyway). I'm not sure if it won any awards, but it's definitely well worth the price. Have a good drinking season!

I just saw 60-minute at Kroger's, if you can believe that. I don't know how many micros in Oregon, but MEEEEchigan is beervana in these parts!!! With over 70 microbreweries (I've been to 48 of them), there are more in MI than in WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MN, NY, Ontario, or Quebec. I believe MI is 3rd in the nation in breweries, and that's very good for me. Try my favorite IPA...CENTENNIAL IPA - FOUNDERS BREWERY, Grand Rapids. There are a lot of good ones out there...Hopslam from Bell's isn't too shabby either. Sipping on Devil's Peak IPA (Copper Canyon, Southfield) as I type.

I'll have to check those out when I get back for Thanksgiving. I haven't lived back home since '97, but it's good to hear that the more important industries are thriving! I was in Homer last summer and was actually really impressed with the selection at Cascarelli's. Definitely not what I expected for the area, but they had some great options. Cheers!

I love Founders! When I lived in Michigan my band played there a few times. Never good pay, but we always got a lot of free beer.

Michigan beer is really, really good but what's going on in the I-5 corridor from (Portland down to Ashland) is unheard of in quality.  Not to mention that Portland has the most breweries per capita in the country!
